I bought a 2010 Golf brand new and still love it. I've never had problems unless you count replacing the battery in the fourth year and an overly sensitive tire pressure sensor (light goes on if temp dips below 55). It's the base model with no options, but I prefer an uncluttered car. I plan on keeping it a long time. Everything cosmetic has aged well too. The metal and paint are solid. The soft stuff is slowly peeling off my power window button and that's a recent development and quite subtle. Still has the original brake pads too.
I have the 5 cylinder petrol. The most basic US spec 2 door.
I have a 2015 Mustang GT and need something a bit more practical to daily drive. This seems like a good option to me.

okay... have u actually driven one. #1. The 2.5 is lighter than the 2.0t. #2. its butter smooth and very quiet. #3. The amount of power relative to fuel economy is about average. I get about 25 in the city and low to mid 30's highway. thats good for a 2.5L. #4. The 2.5 is as fast as the 1.4tsi. #5. The 2.5 is considered the most reliable vw engine ever produced.
The new 4 cylinder turbos are not reliable

I personally don't think VWs are worth it unless its a TDI. So as for steering feel would you say a mazda 6 steers better?
@2theRedlineLLC 2013 golf with the sunroof and convince package you get the multifunction display controls and audio controls plus it's leather wrapped on the steering wheel, heated seats and can get the 17 inch rims.

In europe we don't have 2.5 golfs,we have 1.4 80hp,1.2 tsi 105hp,1.4 tsi 122 and 160hp,and gti with 2.0 tsi 210hp,than 1.6 tdi 90 and 105hp,and 2.0 tdi 140 and in gtd version 170hp :)

I don't know about the US but in Canada we still had the Rabbit 🐰 in 2010 and it's got way nicer trim than the Golf . I'm looking at buying a 2010 and it has a nicer nose than the GTI .
It was either this for the Impreza for me and I went with this just because that Impreza is so slow/cleaner style.

And it's an inline 5 with 170hp/177tq which makes it 10 times cooler than any GTi in my opinion.
Greetings from South Africa. I would love to put an engine like this in a South African Vw Caravelle T4 and T5 as we only get the diesel engines in South Africa. I love the Golf but I like the 1.6 litre 4 cylinder engine.

They don't care for US market. The VW's you get are made to be cheap. In Europe Golf is available with 1.2 TSI turbo petrol with 105hp, 1.4 TSI with 122hp, 1.4 TSI with 160hp, 2.0 TSI with 230hp, all available with 6 speed manual or DSG automatic gearboxes. And then there are several diesels, again, all with manual or DSG. Its the normal thing in europe to have like 10 engines to chose from, but in america cars usually have one or two engine choices, so VW does it like that too.

My first car a 2009 GTI was just totaled (in a fucking parking lot...) think I will just end up settling on this car. Probably find a new steering wheel and wheels and I’ll be good to go. Just hoping the mileage improvement is worth it
I'm pissed you can't get a 4 door with a stick anymore. My mom would have never bought her rabbit with an automatic and the 2 door makes you lose so much practicality! I love the rabbit and it will probably be my next car when my mom gets a GTI next year :)

Honestly I don't even know why VW puts in their cars anymore. They haven't been putting that engine in european models for at least 10 years and they were replaced by much superior and more modern turbo charged 1.2, 1.4, 1.8 and 2.0 petrol engines.
Volkswagen is currently making a 1.8T to replace the 2.5 with about 160hp and 155ft/lbs of torque.

You cant compare german to domestic lol. Plus its a diesel you get a ton of torque and great fuel economy and its fun to drive. Cadillac is just a chevy with a legendary badge that modern caddies dont deserve

Ok, Sofyan clearly doesn't like the inline 5 (made clear very well in the Rabbit video) and compares the regular Golf way too often with the GTI (which is comparing apples to pears). The GTI is on a class of its own (GTI is not a benchmark to ALL hatches). I hoped this vehicle would have been reviewed by someone else this time. A rather one sided review, I'm sorry to say. Keep up the reviews though!

Maybe we compared it so much to the GTI because that vehicle set the standards very high and the base model just seemed a bit lackluster compared to it. Given, you are correct the models don't compete but given they are in the same family and the differences in the drive are so great you can't help but notice. You would understand if you drove both that same day.

He's actually right, this 2.5 is a piece of garbage. Its heavy, unrefined, loud, has horrible size / power ratio and horrible power/fuel economy ratio. 1.4TSI with 160hp thats sold in europe with the golf is better in every single way.
Damn the american versions of VW's look so cheap and nasty.
