Great info but pre 70 were the numbers and letters you want...keep up the good work... Myself I have. 1967 330 #4 heads almost factory putting out over 400 up as well as a 1966 425 putting out 520+ HP. The 330 is a 4-speed 4:11:1 Posi with Hurst ram-rod shifter the 425 is a 400 turbo with switch pitch converter I found a small block 2-speed converter and sealed it in and mounted the switch in my shifter... Works great with 3400 stalling high stall low stall is 2200 rpm and 4:56:1 Posi 328 duration camshaft edelbrock Yorker intake and the heads fully done blocked heat / balancer under carb.sll the Mondeo tricks to both motors... Small block in '64 F-85 Deluxe 2-door post and big block in '67 Cutlass supreme 2-door hardtop...
I just picked up a complete Olds 425 and turbo 400 trans, yesterday. First time owning Oldsmobile anything. Supposedly it's off a 1967 Toronado. Air cleaner says Super Rocket.
Finally got around to looking at your videos, its been busy, anyways thank you for the in dept explanation. I'll take a look at the engine tomorrow and tell you what it it. From what I learned so far is that it is a 1972 block with G heads.
Redline cool glad to see you came to the party. Ok so your casting on top of the block should read 396021 F or FA. Single F is 1970-72 and fa indicates a 72-76 casting. As for the heads, a G indicates 1971 and Ga would be a 72. There isn't a difference between the 2 and they are both 80cc combustion chambers.
I believe there's a kit you can buy to do it yourself. I've watched a few videos on here on how to do it. Looks pretty easy. But yeah them 330 heads have the smallest chamber. Good for raising compression.
You got that right #4 Heads in the '67 330 with forged steel crankshaft.. I did a lot of work on prepping my block and heads W-30 automatic grind camshaft oiling system... Getting easy 400+ H.P. with 4-speed and 3:90:1 Posi...have '79 heads & Connection Rods heaver I beam all sanded smooth and shot peened balanced aline hone squared Edelbrock Intake... The center exhaust ports have the dip in them build that dip up so it is flush and seperate the two center exhaust ports and easy 7 h.p. gains the other side that goes under the intake block that off and reshape the two center exhaust bowels and that there is another easy 50 h.p. then you can port & polish the rest of done properly you can get 100 h.p. from a set of olds heads with the marine W-30 heads the center exhaust are almost done it is just the one one each side that Gord under the intake that's the reason they are wanted and so rare the " F " Marine/W-30 heads...

i’ve been searching forums and everywhere on the internet about my 350, the block and heads are 3A, and it says that that means it’s from 79’ but the code under the heads says it’s a 77, and i also searched the code above the timing shelf “554964-3A” and there seems to be no information i can find about it, i’ve searched *EVERYWHERE* i don’t know if the main webs are windowed or if it’s a smog motor or if it can handle high rpms, the person who i got it from put it in an 84’ c10 that i bought and they claim to not know the car it came out of. any advice or help you can give me???
My buddy was running a stock 350 Olds in his stock car, came in 2nd place. cast iron heads, cast iron intake, 4 barrel Rochester carburetor and factory exhaust manifolds. We ran the casting numbers turns out it was a 77 Olds 350.
Confusing? If you check that OldsFAQ website it shows block number 395558 as ID 5 and for '73/'74 350s? It also mentions an F number on the back of the block, behind the flex-plate? This indicates the nickel content of the block. Any thoughts guys? I have a '78 Cadillac Seville with the Olds 350 in it. The list describes my motor as ID 3B and block casting 557752. This is correct. Much confusion with these motors, they left Olds as short motors and without the VIN derivative of unit number being stamped on them? The VIN derivative was stamped on by Cadillac after they'd completed and test run them? My car in storage so I can't get head numbers. Do any of you out there know about these Olds/Cadillac 350s?

i have no clue how to decode a vehicle vin and to be honest, i dont even know if you can decode the second half, i mean the first half on the fire wall will tell you cutlass and the date soforth but the last set of digits i think is just a vehicle number. and yes M is Michigan
If you can find a '67 Cutlass with 330 & # 4 Heads that is the motor to build up... I got 400+ horse then if you can find '79 olds 403 for connecting rods & heads rods are heaver I beam and heads you want the valve rotators and you will need to install hardened valve seats becouse of no lead gas anymore I mentioned a few tricks to do with someone above you on the list I replied to about building them..

Numbers are small block ...Letters are big block the best letters in order best being #1 & so on.. #1. " F ". W-30 Marine Heads #2. " C ". Heads #3. " B " Heads But don't get scammed Check the letter F some people are selling letter E heads and grinding the bottom off the E to make it look like F heads the way to tell is pull exhaust or intake manifolds and look at the exhaust ports the center exhaust ports on the exhaust side should be all flush no indent between the two center exhaust ports.... And for the intake side where the exhaust goes under the carburetor that square passage should only go to the one cylinder if it goes to both cylinders it is not a real "F " /Marine W-30 heads they are very rare to find but the C-B heads are a lot better than the aluminum ones I think with what I can do with them... For the small block the number 4 is the best the 5 that is the W-31 Head. But the number 4 needs hardened valve seats and 79 403 small block valve rotators installed. When you that there grab the connecting rods from the 403 they have a heavier I beam...the '67. 330 c.i. also has a forged steel crankshaft...
Keep those heads and rods if it a 403 those are parts you want the 403 connecting rods are stronger that the others and will bolt in and the heads you will need the valve rotators to install in older heads with smaller combustion chambers. Since the old heads needed lead gas to lubricate them...
Did you ever cc the heads before you took the valves out? The #6 heads are supposed to be 64cc but I've heard people say there actually more like 68cc.
interesting, I haven't heard that before, I'll have to look into that theory. honestly I'm not sure how to check the ccs, I just went by the book.apparently, 330 heads are supposedly 60 cc, I wonder if they are around 64 then. do you know how to check them manually?

I don't think you should throw em in the scrap pile. They haven't manufactured any Oldsmobile parts for a long long time. I would post them on offer up or Ebay. Somebody out there would probably like to have even the low compression heads. You know someone might just need 1 because maybe thiers is damaged or something? If I have usable parts or a good short block or a transmission or something. I usually post them on offer up. Somebody out there wants it. About a month ago I sold a 180K mile NVG3500 out of a 97 S10 for $100. Just sold the short block 4.3L out of it for $100. Sold the distributor for $20. Trust me,somebody out there wants it. I was gonna sell the seats too, but a cat decided to have kittens on the passenger seat. It ain't even my cat.

yes, c heads are the best along with E heads. c heads are 1967-69 and E heads are 1970. however, lettered heads are big block heads, as where numbered heads are for small blocks. on another note, the best of the best are F,K,H,D heads, those are 6000 dollar w30 heads that flow about as good as a c or an e, your just paying for the casting number lol. those w30 heads are easy to remember because of what they spell LOL
@@UsefulEntertainment i just bought a 1975 delta 88 convertible with a 350 has the 8 heads junk but it runs good 94000 miles 4 barrel was changing the plugs it had the delco 7 plugs in it the gap was 0.45 i bought cheap autolite 847 plugs i gaped them at 0.60 because i had no idea what to gap them to because i got 0.80 which i thought was too big what do you suggest gapping plugs on that? also it runs good but i checked compression one cylinder had 80 psi another has 120 another had 180 it was all over the place

The k heads are worth a pile of cash , f,k,h,d heads are w30 heads, look them up and see what you got. Good luck man

yes, the 400, 425 and 455 are much taller engines and would have a letter instead of a number

No the fuel pump is on the passenger side Distributors on the backside of the motor
And my head's have a number 4A
