Good movie reaction but this one felt like a Power Ranger episode with robots fighting giant monsters even though they didn’t fight them when they are human size
Yup they just kill off Mako in the first 15 mins lol. The one Character from the Original that I actually was invested in. Then they turn the other survivor into the bad guy
The impossibly adorable littel actress who played young Mako is Mana Ashida, who was already a major child star in her native Japan. Famously she had trouble pronouncing Del Toro's name, so she asked him for permission to call him "Totoro-san" instead. It's a truly lovable testament to just what a sweet, gentle and cuddly teddy-bear of a man the director is, because he really is like the classic Studio Ghibli character come to life.
An overlooked part of the movie: Charlie Day's doctor drifted with the kaiju brain, but it was two-way and the kaiju hive-mind could understand him. The kaiju masters learned all about the existing Jaegers and their plans. When the next two kaiju showed up, they'd been designed with weaponry specific to those Jaegers on guard (acid for the armor, the tail whip to beat weak head armor and an EMP to disable the digital Striker). It's why they tore through three battle-tested Jaegers.
Yeah. I am surprised that not a single reactor has picked up on that. I believe that's also why they weren't prepared for the Gypy Danger. At the time that he had drifted with the Kaiji brain, the drift test had failed, and the Gypy was grounded, so they probably felt like they didn't need to prepare anything to counter her.
@@melodramatic7904 CinemaWins mentioned it in his vid, though he thought that the Dr just didn't know as much about Gipsy due to it being inoperable for a long while; I personally consider this unlikely given that Gipsy fought one of the Kaiju the Dr. had tattooed on his arms. Additionally, CinemaWins mentioned that the reason why the tides changed so quickly after the Gipsy v Knifehead fight; the masters learned that they should've been going for the heads. You can see in the fight that knifehead is mainly trying to gore through Gipsy's chest, when that doesn't work it just goes flailing, only accidentally catching Gipsy's head with a swipe. This also leads to why Cherno, Crimson, and Striker are the last survivors. Cherno has no head/ neck to snap, Crimson has that wicked third hand guarding their head, and Striker has enough firepower and agility that it'd be exceedingly difficult to get close enough to yank it's head off.
"TODAY WE ARE CANCELING THE APOCALYPSE!!" Idris Elba is a true beast in this movie, this is easily some of his greatest work. I got chills when he delivers that monologue. Apparently his role was supposed to be for Tom Cruise but he turned it down due to schedule conflict so Elba had to take it. Honestly Elba works so perfect for the role
Tom Cruise would NEVER be able to pull off Stacker Pentecost. He doesn't bring the same combination of ego, repressed emotion, and a no-bullshit attitude that Idris does to the role.
Cruise has been in so many amazing movies, but it's a testament to Idris Elba that I absolutely cannot even imagine someone else in that role... not even Tom.
Fun fact: The AI voice in this movie is voiced by Ellen McLain, who voiced the AI GLaDOS in the Portal games. Guillermo del Toro is apparently a big fan of Portal, so he got her to be in his movie.
This movie was my very first IMAX experience. I didn't even know what to expect from this movie, i didn't watch the trailers but my late dad was super interested to see it so he took me and my brothers to see it in an IMAX theater that opened near our house and man it was so worth it. Especially hearing one of Ramin Djawadi's best scores in his career, so incredible. I was so young when i watched this movie in theaters, the flashback of Mako's childhood after her parents' death due to the monsters was pretty scary to watch for my age at that time
This movie had me at Guillermo del Toro directs a film about giant robots fighting giant monsters. In the theater, after the whole opening sequence when the title appeared, I turned to my girlfriend and said, "This is already the greatest movie ever made."
Little detail I love is while a majority of the kaiju are based on aquatic life, Otachi and Leatherback were dispatched after Newt connected to the hive mind so the Precursors read his mind and not only knew about the Jaegers, but also the wall so they created kaiju that can easily scale or just fly over it
Guillermo del Toro killed it with this movie. Being a huge fan of Tokusatsu like Godzilla, super Sentai, Ultraman, Gundam ECT and bringing that love to the big screen to this awesome movie. It's a Kaiju fan dream come true and non fans will enjoy it as well
I saw this in 3D with DBOX motion seats set on high; I don't think I've ever had more fun watching a movie before. It was like a high end amusement park ride but lasted 2 hours
Guillermo del Toro is so good with child actors, the performances he gets in Pan's Labyrinth and The Devil's Backbone are just incredible. Apparently the little actress in this had trouble saying his name, so she called him "Totoro-san" after the Studio Ghibli film (which honestly he probably loved).
"You look good" Roxy: "...enough to eat" love how her mind is always about ramping up the sexual tension when there's a man and woman with some chemistry and making Andrew flustered in the process 😂
So funny that people from the UK that are old enough will know Charlie Hunnam from Queer As Folk in the 90's, he was a mere baby, but Americans only know him as this muscle bound, action hero actor😂
I just like to put out there, the reason Idris Elba seems to have a sickness or condition is because he was one of the beginning pilots when Jaegers were made. He was one of the only solo pilots to exist, and theorized the earlier models might have not had a good enough radiation shield for its core.
It's crazy how this movie had experienced people in the military to be the pilots of the gigantic robots yet somehow in the sequel, the robot was piloted by a bunch of teenagers that made it look like a cheap Power Rangers movie
I remember watching this movie in Theatre without knowing anything about it . The experience on the big screen with the awesome music was just amazing .
27:18 Random Access Brain Impulse triggers = R.A.B.I.T. Gods I love the sound Gypsy Danger makes when she arrives, it's so powerful and epic. Also the words Mako says to Marshall before he detonates mean "I love you sensei/teacher" Btw if y'all liked Charlie Hunam (i hope I spelled that right) in this I recomend watching King Arthur: Leged of the sword. Great movie
This film was just the most perfect love letter to the original Japanese Kaiju movies. It has so much packed in there to call back to and honour its predecessors, and that includes the cheesy moments. You can tell how much passion and love went into so many aspects of this film. The artbook and prequel graphic novel are utterly gorgeous too. And the music! Oh the music! The behind the scenes are phenomenal to watch as well, since they focused as much on practicality as they feasibly could, and it shows in the Jaeger Conn Pod scenes. You can feel the physicality and sheer weight of every movement they make. Mako's flashback scene without fail makes me tear up, and her last words to Stacker just kill me. God I love this movie! Losing Del Toro and Beacham just tore all the love and heart right out of that other film that definitely wasn't a sequel and was entirely it's own entity.
@@bobaata no it's not How the fuck did he drift with a kaiju. He only mentioned "I did it once, only once" after talking about him going to his personal bunker not the public one.
Some people, including myself when I first watched the film, misunderstood Hannibal's line "I tried it once." He meant he tried a public bunker once and lost his eye, not that he tried drifting with a Kaiju and it messed up his eye like the doctor. In the Spanish dub it's a bit more clear, because he says "I've been to one before."
Also some fact, he was still connected to his brother when he died so he felt it all through the neuro link. And he's 1 of 2 people ever to solo pilot a Jager. The other being Idris character
A male coworker and I are both huge Ron Perlman fans. I liked him in Sons of Anarchy, but gym buff officemate liked him in Beauty and the Beast. At this point, I am starting to speculate that SOA viewer demographic is 70% women. Btw, Charlie Hunnam was also in Crimson Peak, another Del Toro firm.
Young Mako Mori, Mana Ashida is actually one of the best child actors in Japan. Adult Mako, Rinko Kikuchi is also one of the best actors in Japan and was nominated for Best Supporting Actress for Babel in 2007.

I agree I don't know why people think why Hannibal said I tried it once that people think he's talking about drifting with a Kaiju when he was really talking about hiding in a public bunker. I mean I understood that the first time I saw the movie
Then they shouldn't have thrown in that gag line about public bunkers in immediately after very important dialogue about drifting memories going both ways, and showing an eye injury when Charlie Day got his eye totally messed up by Kaiju-drifting. Roxy you really need to have a segment where you literally talk about recommendations of TV and maybe even go off on which episode of what TV show is 🔥. Anyway the reaction was 🤩
Seeing this in theaters was an absolute blast! The weight you feel from how they animated the jaegers and kaiju, the sound design, just excellent! Now the drop off in quality from this film to the sequel is another story. The sequel has jaegers and kaiju looking like videogame characters with no weight/momentum to them at all. And it's all in shiny bright broad daylight so it looks even cheaper.
Pacific Rim and MonsterVerse (it could work considering that Legendary Pictures owns the right for those two products). Would be cool to see Gipsy Danger fighting Godzilla
@@ErasureeraserA Godzilla/Pacific Rim crossover was in mind for GDT to be involved with. It would've been standalone. But nothing to do with the Monsterverse.

Loved that Roxy and Andrew got to react to this movie and enjoyed it ❤ Also idk if it was just me but Roxy seemed a bit upset or off? I hope all is well with you Roxy! We all love you girl!!❤️❤️
The long-haired bald guy that acts next to Perlman is Santiago Segura. He's a very well known Spanish lowbrow slapstick humor actor that is friends with Guillermo del Toro. As with Ron Perlman and a few others, del Toro has a knack of giving cameo or extra roles to firends of his (who tend to appear on his films at a nominal cost)
crazy thing is they actually built the whole ass cockpits and it actually moved to make it seem more real only what you see outside of the cockpit was green screened
I unironiclly love this movie 😂 nevermind the fact I’m a massive Gundam fan and this is just a love letter to both Big Mecha and Kaiju 🤣 Also, Del Toro blew something like half the budget on just the inside of the Jaeger head. They built it to actual size and honestly, I love it 😂
As much as I enjoy this movie, and I do really enjoy it, every time I watch it I can't help but think "Man, Mako should've been our protagonist from the beginning".
I absolutely love this film series, and can't wait for the 3rd installment! ❤ These films are so underrated, but I enjoy underrated films more than the ones to which the critics give accolades. Awesome reaction Guys! Loved it! ❤❤
This has been one of the very few movies I've watched on theaters multiple times. I love the kaiju genre and Pacific Rim hit all the right notes for me.
I love the fact that ILM submitted a proxy-scope for this, like "here's what we just MAAAAYbe can do for your movie" and then the actual sequence of it is sick as rusty nails. This movie holds up something awesome. On the DVD collector's edition del Toro-sama has research notes, and behind the scenes videos and there's SO much depth. It's amazing that we can put enough of ourselves into something to sell a story. That's what we've always done. *smiles* "Seriously though, I am a big man, when I get out of bathtub it's a chore, make Leatherback a big man, he shouldn't step so easily"
I LOVE this movie. The score is incredible. The movie was amazing. This was one of the best IMAX experiences I've ever had. It's such an underrated movie.
yeah he felt his arm being torn off, worse yet he felt everything his brother was feeling til he died even after he was ripped out. between that and solo piloting gypsy he's lucky to be alive given it normally fries a person who tries to solo pilot
I can't even begin to state how tiresome and annoying the copium is at this point... It's been 6 years now, whether we like it or not, THERE IS A SEQUEL, deal with it...
I like how we have English actors Charlie Hunnam and Rob Kazinsky in this film. One plays an American and one plays and Australian. But given how blended and global the world has become in this universe it kind of makes sense how muddled their accents seem at times. Credit to Kazinsky though, he does a very admirable Australian accent.

Lol maybe it’s my thinking face I really don’t know 😂
Roxy you really need to have a segment where you literally talk about recommendations of TV and maybe even go off on which episode of what TV show is 🔥.
Anyway the reaction was 🤩
Love this
a crime to be this early
Guilty as charged
Sometimes I can't stop thinking about the corals and underwater ecosystem that the jaegers & kaiju are destroying underneath their feet 😅
Burn Gorman is such a highlight, in any movie. I love that guy.
I completely forgot they got the actress for GLaDOS to play the Jaeger computer system
GLAD THAT ROXY IS WATCHING THIS!
What's your DREAM Pacific Rim / Franchise Crossover???
I don't know but I just wanted you to know that there is a sequel as well
Pacific Rim and MonsterVerse (it could work considering that Legendary Pictures owns the right for those two products). Would be cool to see Gipsy Danger fighting Godzilla
@@Erasureeraser true but isn't mechagodzila technically a Jagar in Godzilla v Kong didn't really work against them
@@ErasureeraserA Godzilla/Pacific Rim crossover was in mind for GDT to be involved with.
It would've been standalone.
But nothing to do with the Monsterverse.
@@Erasureeraser bro cmon del toro said he wanted it to be its own thing. The sequel already disrespected his work enough. Why do it more?
Plus the monster verse is slop
Loved that Roxy and Andrew got to react to this movie and enjoyed it ❤ Also idk if it was just me but Roxy seemed a bit upset or off? I hope all is well with you Roxy! We all love you girl!!❤️❤️
Was literally looking for this comment she kinda gave side eye at one point lol (don’t wanna speculate or anything but just saying I noticed too)
Bummed that a few people felt like this. Idk what my face is giving but I was having a blast lol
Proud member of the "Kimberly Crushers" :D
I was more of a Trinity fan as my Power Ranger crush
The long-haired bald guy that acts next to Perlman is Santiago Segura. He's a very well known Spanish lowbrow slapstick humor actor that is friends with Guillermo del Toro. As with Ron Perlman and a few others, del Toro has a knack of giving cameo or extra roles to firends of his (who tend to appear on his films at a nominal cost)
crazy thing is they actually built the whole ass cockpits and it actually moved to make it seem more real only what you see outside of the cockpit was green screened
So glad y'all clocked the INCREDIBLE soundtrack early on; Pacific Rim has one of the most memorable, iconic, and just fucking epic OSTs ever!
I unironiclly love this movie 😂 nevermind the fact I’m a massive Gundam fan and this is just a love letter to both Big Mecha and Kaiju 🤣
Also, Del Toro blew something like half the budget on just the inside of the Jaeger head.
Loved it! ❤❤
“You don’t want a fissure” 🤔 hahaha
0:20 - omg Roxy was giving u the "if u dont hurry up and pass that blunt" look haha
Hahaha not at all that’s just my look lmao
Was that Diego Klattenhoff of The Blacklist?! Damn!
*smiles*
"Seriously though, I am a big man, when I get out of bathtub it's a chore, make Leatherback a big man, he shouldn't step so easily"
I LOVE this movie. The score is incredible. The movie was amazing. This was one of the best IMAX experiences I've ever had. It's such an underrated movie.
You can actually feel del toro’s love & passion for the Kaiju genre in pacific rim. I mean look at his filmmaking in this movie.
yeah he felt his arm being torn off, worse yet he felt everything his brother was feeling til he died even after he was ripped out. between that and solo piloting gypsy he's lucky to be alive given it normally fries a person who tries to solo pilot
Great Reaction! This movie was cool! 👍
4:45 That's Diego Klattenhoff. Or as I know him…Agent Ressler from The Blacklist.
From Reject to Respect!
Mako and Raleigh's fight scene is just chemistry incarnate.
ah i love this movie so much. went to see it like five times in the theaters
Super underrated film, wish they made a sequel.
They made a sequel and it is horrible.
@@dsmith4136 that was an amateur fan film, what are you talkin about? There is no actual sequel.
I can't even begin to state how tiresome and annoying the copium is at this point...
It's been 6 years now, whether we like it or not, THERE IS A SEQUEL, deal with it...
@@salmankhan2739 Pacific Rim Uprising 2018 with John Boyega and Scott Eastwood. It is Marshal's son leading. Charlie Hunnam refused to be in it.
@@lacko623 bro its an ongoing joke that pacific rim fans tell cause uprising was that bad, chill out
It's no wonder the music in this movie is great! The music was done by Ramin Djawadi, the one behind the music of game of thrones
The snow goes all the way up to the whatter.
Roxy’s accent makes me miss the T. Still carry my Charlie Card in my Wallet. Haha
That’s rad
We are Kaiju to insects haha , why don’t they build Jaegers to fight us ? 😂
They did it called Kamen Rider
43:08 .... Sigh... He's talking about trying a public refuge...
If I drink alcohol the longest I sleep after is 3 hours. Then I’m up and i mean UP, just ready to start the day as though I had 8 hours of sleep.
This is my all time favorite movie. I've seen it over 20 times.
This was a lot of fun in the theater. It's kind of silly, but so big and entertaining.
The actor playing Herman was seriously channeling Roddy McDowell
33:14 His name is Santiago Segura, he is a famous spanish actor
Pacific Rim cost $180,000,000 and it was worth every penny
I was so hyped when I first saw the trailer and the movie did not disappoint!
The subtitles not getting Mako’s name right a single time 😂
I remember losing my shit when I heard her voice from portal. Greatest robot voice ever.
33:30 it is the same actor and also the same that in the first hellboy film as the subway driver who hits hellboy with a fire extinguisher
Charlie Hunnam is great in King Arthur by Guy Ritchie
I remember seeing this in theaters as a kid, now my 3yr old nephew says I look like Mako 😭
Well... Do you?
@@matijasostojic4288 tbh kinda, its bc of my short hair, and instead of her blue I have red 😂
Ron Perlman looks like Boris the Animal with those glasses
