      They should have made the ex-wife a lesbian and Dakota fanning's character Trans. This movie is soooo Not inclusive. The fact that Tom Cruise is sis in this makes me so angry. Where are all the people of color? I can't believe the rejects reacted to this movie and posted it online. It is very much not progrssive.

      The Bacteria of our world killed them, not the grenades killing the one. Only because they were inside the shields was that possible.

      Out of the many, many reactors to this movie, you both were the first ones to point out my favorite movie effect. The camera shot of them going down the Freeway in one long continuous circle in close almost entering the car , pull out and go around it and coming back in the window. I look forward to it every time. So smooth you don't notice it.

    The grenades didn't stop the alien invasion, it just stopped that specific tripod war machine since it blew up from the inside because of the grenades.
    The lack of knowledge or preparation against any bacteria indigenous to Earth caused the aliens to die, even Morgen Freeman explained it at the end of the movie.

    • @clonexx
      @clonexx 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, I really didn’t understand where they got the idea that one grenade stopped the invasion. They got so stuck on this “hive mind” theory they came up with that they completely ignored Morgan Freeman literally telling them that it was bacteria that the aliens had no immunity to is what killed them. They breathed our air and drank our water, the pathogens that humans have long developed immunity to through countless deaths in the past is what destroyed the aliens.
      That bugged me, because it’s a huge part of the ending and how the aliens were beaten. They all got infected the second they breathed our air and in less than 24 hours their systems became overwhelmed by millions of pathogens that humans don’t need to worry about any longer.

    • @pen1208
      @pen1208 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +36

      That literally flew right over their heads for some reason. Because Morgan Freeman didn't specifically say the term "germs" or "bacteria" and only showed and animation, I can see why some folks wouldn't know what that animation represents. Know what I mean?

    • @clonexx
      @clonexx 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +38

      @@pen1208 I understand what you’re saying, but if they were paying attention I feel it was pretty clear what he meant. I know he didn’t spell it out, but the wording made it really clear that it was bacteria he was talking about, especially with the animation. They seemed to latch on to the hive mind theory and that the grenades that killed the one alien craft is what caused them all to die and that feels like why they didn’t understand what Freeman was saying.

    He told the mechanic to change the solenoid when he was heading to the lightning strike. The mechanic told him it worked as they were walking there. A solenoid is an electromagnet so the EMP fried the one in there. The people in the river unlifed-ed themselves. The tripods were using human blood as part of their terraforming, they were "watering" the vein-like vines with it.

      Yh I was a tad confused why they were first vaporising humans, then collecting them, and then occasionally draining them from the straw, just to spray their blood! But I can see how the vaporising and spraying were part of the terraforming, but what’s with the straw? What I gathered by the end was this sit or marinate in our fat? Like the juices coming out of the machine looked like fat oils you can see from humans? And I know not all the tripods are the same, seems like some clear the path(vaporising) others sew the seeds and water them. But that straw one really threw me for a loop 😅

    • @Muckylittleme
      @Muckylittleme 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@jessimarim_m9387 They vaporised just to cull as they didn't need all humans for blood.
      The pipe thing that punctured humans sucked out their blood for it to be sprayed later for the terraforming as the weird alien weed thing fed on it like Earth plants feed on water.
      They collected them to store until they were to be used for their blood to terraform another part.
      The leakage from the actual machines was just them venting some biproduct of whatever was fuelling them.

      The brother just being there safe and sound at the end of the movie was just ridiculous. I'd much rather have a more realistic, sadder ending than this forced happy family reunion ending that made no sense.

    Probably one of Spielberg's most underrated films. I know a lot of people complain about the ending being anti-climatic given how much they built up the depressing severity of the situation in order to feel satisfied seeing humanity win in an epic climax, but honestly I actually dont mind the ending and I think the idea of these aliens ultimately falling to something as small yet deadly as human bacteria is kinda hilarious. I really like the designs of the Tripods as they truly made them feel menacing, terrifying and almost unbeatable. The moment you hear that horn you know you're cooked, and you can either try and escape your fate or accept it.
    I think my favourite scene is probably the car scene where everyone is desperately trying to get into one of the only working cars, willing to beat and kill fellow humans suffering and terrified for their lives, smashing and ripping glass with their bear hands, pulling kids out to save themselves. Truly shows both the worst and the unspoken truth about humanity

      I mean the ending made a lot of logical sense. We have gone through millions of years of evolution so it's kinda narcissistic of aliens to think that they can come in and not be affected by something as basic as bacteria. It took us a long time to build our immunity. This is not a take we would expect films like these to take but HG Wells was a genius when he wrote this.

    H.G. Wells is the father of Science Fiction and many of his novels have been adapted to film.
    War of The Worlds (1898) is the original Alien Invasion story.
    No particular main characters of the novel.
    You just see how many of them deal with this unforseen event.
    First on audio, the 1938 radio play broadcast on Halloween narrated by Orson Wells threw the audience into a major panic like the invasion was real and it made headline news as an major spectacle.
    Then on the big screen as an George Pal production with award winning effects in 1953, ahead of it's time in filmmaking followed by a syndicated tv series (1988-1990) that was an continuation from the film and pushed the envelope of Sci-fi/suspense/horror .
    This 2005 adaption is Spielberg's 3rd Sci-Fi film of the 2000s.
    The fear and paranoia of a post 9/11 world reacting to an attack from beyond.
    Cruise's role as not a hero, a father trying to measure up and at least guide his kids through this ordeal does make good storytelling.
    The cast, the crew, the sets, the effects and every moment till the end shows you why Spielberg is the legend he is.
    Following his other efforts with Kubrick's final production, Artificial Intelligence (2001) and his first collaboration with Cruise, Minority Report (2002).

    Okay, so this is theory only (because I know there are other cars in the movie that were manufactured after this date), but computers weren't in cars until 1968. The car that he drives off in at the beginning of the film is a 1966 Shelby GT 350 H. This means it came out without a computer system, it's all analog. I THINK what happens that knocks out the power in the opening is an electromagnetic pulse, which would short circuit electrical systems (computers, radio, satellite, etc).

    You can't really criticize a plot point five times as an inexplicable mystery when the movie explained it at length. The car was running because Tom Cruise -- in the movie -- had a conversation with the neighbor about the minivan not starting and told him that the electrical event had probably fried the selenoid which is a pretty easy part to replace and later the guy had just gotten it fixed when Cruise and family piled into the car. The guy is walking out if the auto place and says Cruise was right about the problem. The army had many hours to replace the damaged part in their vehicles. Some people handy with cars would have done the same, though 99% of cars would not be running.

    It blows my mind the amount of stuff people miss or misinterpret. He said to the mechanic. "Try changing the Solanoid" then when they came back and grabbed the van. He said "you were right, I had to change the salanoid" they gave you a literal word for word explanation. It couldn't have been dumbed down any further. The stone being freezing from the lighting is just showing that it's not normal lighting. The moms house lights were on because it didn't disable all power across the world. It blew it out in that area. When they pulled up the girl said "why are the lights on here?" And Tom said "because nothing bad has happened here" again. Literally word for word explaining it to you. And at the end where Morgan freeman says "the moment they breathed our air, drank our water they were doomed. Defeated by the tinest organizims god had created." And then shows bacteria cells or whatever. Literally everything your confused about is explained in the most basic way imaginable. That's like if you watched someone die in a movie. And someone says. "Oh my god! He was shot!" And your over here like "what killed him! It's a complete fricken mystery!" Like ????

    In regards to some comments, to be fair, the reason why the actual shields started to go down did seem a bit ambiguous. It's explained that bacteria killed the aliens but why would that affect their technology and the shields on the tripods... So to be fair that part to me at least is a bit vague. I understand the bacteria that humans have evolved to survive killing the aliens, but to be fair the shields did only go down after the first tripod got destroyed, so it could look like that was the reason, like it could appear that the destruction of the first tripod was the catalyst for the shields coming down - even if that wasn't the actual reason for the shields coming down. Which like I say remains a little mysterious.

Tara, uses it as a way to talk about the power of a scene. Maybe what the power comes from, be it the acting or whatever. I.E. "Sandra Bullock always brings the "Juice". She's also used it to denote disgust. (Snarled face, obviously uncomfortable) Watching a horror film, "Oh.....Ya......it's the "Juice". WHich might be combined with one of her other frequently used phrases, "Oh.....Ya......it's the "Juice". I don't want it, I don't want it. EWWWW HAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA." (Haha is actually what she's saying not used here as laughter.) I'll offer one more example. The "Juice", is often sex or sexual in nature. I.E. "Oh, yaaaaaaa...LOL, he's about to bring the Juiiii....HEY OHHHHHHHHHHH." She didn't finish the word in this case, but you get the point.
      This word, along with I don't want it, although I'm not sure who started that one, are becoming frequent go to's for the entire Reel Reject Gang.
      Other merch ideas, TV in center frame of Tshirt, you can the back to of the TV from our POV. Just above, we see Tara, cartoon version, big eyes, looks like she's about to watch something "Juice worthy." Then above her head you put the phrase, "The Juice Is Loose."
      Another idea is maybe instead of a book of definitions for Juice, in which you'd need someone to go through and write a proper book like the analysis I just did or similar. It might be cool to just put a pic of an old Hogwarts book up and on the cover you put in cool font, Juice: The Many Definitions by Tara Erickson.

    "its PG-13, not a lot of blood."
    then cut to 54:20 LMAOOOO
    But seriously tho, the grenade thing Tom Cruise did was just for that one ship/tripod. But for everyone else, it was the climate, the bacteria, the atmosphere of the earth that killed them. So we can kinda say Mother Earth saved herself.

    My friends and I saw this when it came out at a midnight screening. No joke, we walked outside afterwards and it was nothing but fog. Dense, thick fog. Few cars in the parking lot. No cars driving by on the road at all. And a little bit of amber illuminating the dense foggy sky in the background. It was so eerie.

    11:03 That scene and everything from the beginning of the film was actually filmed in Newark, New Jersey. My city lol. I was 22 when they were filming and I remember leaving work just a few blocks away from that area to see Tom Cruise film that scene on Ferry Street in the ironbound section of Newark

    Okay first off, amazing reaction doods! I loved how you guys got so into it! This movie gives me the biggest heebie-jeebies with how incredibly subtle but creepy many of the scary moments are when you don't know what's coming or the slow build up of silent horror. That River scene with the bodies just appearing as she watched was probably the creepiest scene in the whole movie for me. Loved it!
    2nd, some of ya'll in the comments are being a bit too hard on them. People, I think they were so blown away at how great the movie was that it got a bit overwhelming. I'm often a very observant person and this has happened to me at times for a movie I was super hyped about and was overwhelmed by how incredible it was. The doods were just a bit overwhelmed, sometimes things might take a second watch to fully grasp everything cuz this movie literally puts the pedal to the medal and rarely gives you any time to breathe with how random and abrupt every creepy incident and encounter happens. Some of you might not like what I had to say, but seriously, back down a little bit peeps.

    Symbolically the film opens on a droplet of water on a leaf… while discussing bacteria. Then, the film bookends with the explanation of how we have evolved and survived bacteria and sickness… earning our place on the earth and the aliens came in naivety… not planning on being bested by the smallest of organisms on the planet

      We literally HAVE to talk during reactions otherwise we are just playing footage of a movie which will get taken down. We are watching it for the first time having to balance this being a watch along/ commentary while also being engrossed in what’s happening on screen then immediately have to talk about it and have a fully formed opinion seconds after the movie is over. It’s a balancing act that isn’t as easy as it looks. I appreciate the engagement and letting us know what we missed. We ultimately really enjoyed the movie tho

    Yes you missed something as you are want to do because you are talking way too much. Don't need a commentary or a joke on everything, that is part of what ruined(one of many things) Glory, that debacle is still disgusting.
    Ray told Manny how to fix the van, what the issue likely is. When he goes gets the van, Manny is just finishing fixing it, you see him close the hood, and he says to Ray, about how he was right. You caught that, but just do not pay enough attention...

      They are hella annoying.
      It amazes me today how people have completely lost sight of what "reacting" was and is supposed to be. The premise is to watch people watching media as if they were friends watching it with you per se. They are supposed to be people you would watch things with. There is absolutely zero percent I would ever watch anything with these two. They are exactly the opposite of who I would watch anything with. Watching people scream unnecessarily and have delusions of comedic grandeur while missing key elements of the film (which is the star...not them...never them) is not entertaining to me. And the fact that people PAY people to watch stuff they have already seen boggles my mind. It is the weirdest thing to me. Nobody paid me to watch it. Why do they deserve to be paid to watch it? They're doing the exact thing everyone watching them has already done and paid to do. The whole concept is just a big fat "huh?" logically to me.
