It wasn't in vain. He spent those years studying the black hole, then told TARS what to look for when it entered it. The data TARS collected was then transmitted to Murph, saving the world.

and i hate that so many ppl think its cringy or badly written cause its "too on the nose" idgi i think it makes sense for brand to say it in that scenario, cause shes talking about trusting the love she has for dr mann to go and visit that planet, i think it makes perfect sense and its beautiful

This movie was such a masterpiece. I was in college when I first watched it. Saw the whole movie with 4 other friends and now my husband all overagain. Now watch reaction and still enjoy it. This movie is something.
This is the only movie that I started over immediately after watching it. I regretted having not seen it in IMAX, let alone a regular theater. I watched it at the right time in my life, I was really into relativity, black holes & universal phenomena. When I found out it was made by the same guy that did The Prestige and Inception I watched his entire filmography. Pity that he hasn't made anything as great since. Great reaction, I love that you cared about what was happening and you were really into it.
The line "because my Dad promised me" cuts straight to the core of a reactors relationship with their own Father. So many hidden stories appear on their face at that point and she was certainly no exception

This movie is fucking 𝗣𝗛𝗘𝗡𝗢𝗠𝗘𝗡𝗔𝗟, an absolute 𝗠𝗔𝗦𝗧𝗘𝗥𝗣𝗜𝗘𝗖𝗘, my all time favorite! Watching it in the theater was mind blowing, pure cinematic magic. Hans Zimmer’s score is a brilliant achievement, adding depth to every moment. Beyond its storytelling, Interstellar made real scientific contributions, with its depiction of black holes leading to new research and published papers; cementing its groundbreaking status. This isn’t just a movie; it’s a cinematographic treasure by Christopher Nolan.
That huge, circular space station he woke up on at the end is shaped that way because it spins, creating artificial gravity. In that era, humans apparently grow up and live in space, so they need huge structures with hospitals, baseball diamonds, and residential neighborhoods! And it all happened in a few decades after his daughter unlocked the mysteries of what happens inside a black hole (with his help). Very cool stuff.

I’ll never forget watching this movie in theaters the first time in sophomore year of HS, I remember crying in the m our theater. This is one of my favorite movies of all time along with Saving Private Ryan and Schindler’s List.

Great reaction. This is one of my favourite movies of all time and I never get tired of rewatching it and watching it with others who haven’t seen it. I even made a song based on the ending of this movie where Coop travels through the wormhole.

And the "waves" are basically tides, the same as here on earth caused by the gravitational pull of the sun and moon. The only difference is those enormous tides are caused by the black hole which has a million times more pull force than the sun.

Yessss I was about to comment and suggest Arrival (2016) too, a great film 🙌
theres a few things that arent super obvious on first or even fifth watches of this film, had they not taken the exact order of planets they did, there would have been no need for cooper to sacrifice himself into gargantua, which would break the time loop allowing this entire film to occur, people saying they should have gone to mann's planet too miss the fact that the entirety of remaining life on earth would have had to be abandoned. Its such an unbelievably good premise and script, magnificent AF.
It is worth noting that a pretty high amount of information thats physics based in this film is far closer to accurate than space movies tend to convey. Time dilation is a real thing that occurs, and the faster you go, the faster time goes (relatively) to things that arent moving that speed. However, a black hole's time dilation is not caused by speed it is caused by the immense gravity and tidal forces at play in an event horizon (the point of no return, where once reached, every direction from there is always further in). The actual time dilation at play in this film is scientifically accurate to the best of our knowledge based on being only able to observe things, since we are nowhere near able to actually do interstellar travel in a real way as of yet. We don't know for absolute certainty what happens in a black hole, but we are fairly certain you cannot survive the trip through, as a black hole will sever you in half over and over and over the closer you get to the center of an event horizon, it continues to do this until you are nothing but a stream of individual atoms or molecules. Since we cant prove this, there is some level of creative change using that uncertainty to say this might be what occurs. I do think there was a minor inaccuracy with the first planet they visit, since its time dilation amount is mentioned in the film, neil degrasse tyson concluded that based upon that level of time dilation, it would have been too much, and the planet's orbit would have pulled it into the black hole.

This film perfectly set itself up for a sequel, if there ever will be one.
Edmunds Planet is still within the Gargantua system. The water planet and Miller's planet were closer to Gargantua. How fast or slow time flows is determined by how strong a nearby gravitational force is or how fast something is traveling or both.
Time flowed the slowest on the water planet because it was the closest to Gargantua, then Miller's planet then Edmunds planet.
Since Brand is on Edmunds planet Cooper can take 20 years to find her in his _relative time frame_ while Brand might have only had to wait a few days in her _relative time frame_
I got really excited when i saw Cooper leaving in the shuttle at the end because we know _Brand has all the time in the universe to wait for Cooper to find her_

Based on known physics (E=mc^2), this scene plays like the crew is near a black hole (with a huge gravitational pull) which reduces the crew's biological clock many fold in relation to Earth's, and the latter's gravitational pull isn't even close to the gravitational pull's magnitude that they're in. The same is true for the astronauts going into the planet nearest to the black hole, their clock runs slower in regards to the stationary station that hey left in orbit, which runs faster to them, but many times slower to Earth's.
Amazing Video! I've watched Interstellar so many times before and it stills get me emotional, truly one of the best movies in entertainment history. Glad you enjoyed it Nova.

To clarify he was trapped in the 4 or 5 dimension but all the science in this movie is legit physics and astrophysics Nolan worked with an astrophysicist named Kip Thorne and yes time really works this way all that is real and wormholes in theory work that way
Great reaction Nova! You mentioned that you don't like more typical SciFi but you liked this. For all the same reasons I think you'll also really love Contact (1997). Like Interstellar it takes science and realism very seriously, except for the few things they choose to "assume" to make it fictional. It gets into the issue of whether there might be other life out there, which is one of your childhood dreams to think about. The similarities run deeper: it co-stars Matthew McConaughey (Cooper from Interstellar), features a strong intelligent female lead character, and pivots emotionally around a powerful father daughter relationship. Even though it's 1997 it holds up quite well.
Did you notice the other robot called Kipp, the moment he was restarted/rebooted he said "please don't make me..." right before exploding. like if that was what he was saying before he was shut down... intriguing

A lot of people miss the importance of Cooper and Brand's "handshake" in the wormhole. It signifies their connection trough gravity/love!
You can tell this as the music is the exact same in these two scenes:
- Where Murph realises "it was you, you were my ghost"
- When Murph tells Cooper that Brand is waiting for him
My all time favorite movie...I went into it thinking it'd just be a cool sci-fi movie aaand it was so so SO much more. The whole time and relativity thing made me do a deep dive in space-time and relativity thing and it's such a mind-blowing concept lol so glad you enjoyed the movie! Easiest sub ever 🤘

2:59 They can drive decently fine **in theory** because its a Dually or 'dual axle' truck (Dually is the correct term but both are used commonly) and the reason is that duallys have 2 different wheels/tires bolted together at the rim on both sides of the rear axle so essentially you could have 1 blow on either side of the rear axle and just keep going in an emergency since you'd still have one tire on either side of the rear and front aka same as normal cars have but in reality you'd most likely destroy your truck because the blown out tires would start going absolutely ham AND cheese on your rear end ripping it apart the faster you went...
Butt its extra wide back end isn't just there for show, its because they're pretty much always designed or rather dually trucks are pretty much always made specifically to carry heavier loads in the bed and tow heavier trailers/loads hence the 4 rear tires and usually better powertrain, suspension, etc.

18:52 Quick answer to why the wormhole is a sphere and the path between them is 4 Dimensional (as they said they are travelling beyond 3 dimension; therefore, they have no spaceship controls).
When you look at romilly's explanation, it's on a sheet of paper. He folds it, then punctures it through the middle forming a tunnel between the two holes created. Now if you consider the sheet of paper to be a 2d space, the wormhole created in a 2d space is also 2d, which is the punctured circular hole, and the space between them is a cylindrical tunnel, which is 3 dimensional space, which is the next higher dimension to the 2d space of the paper.
Now for us, we live in a 3d space(that is 1 dimension higher than his paper explanation); so the wormhole created is also 3d, which is a spherical hole, and the path between the two spherical holes should be of the next higher dimension, that is 4d.
So basically we, in our real world, jump +1 dimension than the paper explanation.
So it's exactly as romilly already explained 🙄
