From my understanding a lot of the art forms that involve the human body are ways to keep the body supple & as close to its state at birth. That is where music, dance, yoga, pranayama etc come into play. Releasing stress & tension which we tend to store within our bodies. Incredibly it not only reduces/removes the performers stress/tension but has a similar yet temporary effect on the observer(s) who can & do go into a trance like states. For the lay individual the body deteriorates from improper use. Which is a result of lifestyle. Hope that gives you some insight. Have a mellifluous day!
