I would have liked to spend an hour with you guys on this discussion, seriously! And don't worry, Blaze, BTS renewed their contract recently so we are not losing them (...except temporarily for the military service. Pray for world peace.) Since you guys have dance background, I wanted to share my interpretation based on my personal background. I was a dancer for just 10 years... not professionally, but as a personal passion. Dance of course is not easy. It requires focus, hard work, hours of practice, soreness, bruises... but the thing it takes the most is emotional energy to express your deepest spirit as movement. I thought quitting dance was the "right thing to do" for my life at the time, but as soon as I quit dancing, my health deteriorated. Now, my health is at a point when I can no longer dance. Martha Graham is one of the mothers of contemporary dance. Her quote set me up to cry, really. As I watched Black Swan, I realized what was happening, "His wings are his dance...(his art)" and I began to sob. Art is not just a creative hobby. It is a laborious gestation and birthing. I can only imagine the pain each of our 7 has experienced, realizing that what gave them wings-the beautiful black wings they once longed for as ducklings-would become a burden they wanted to cut off. For me personally, this film expresses the torture of the craft, and the artist's realization that they must learn to fly without their wings. The dancers begin on the top floor. The swan is a duckling. The swan's black wings grow to become very large, but soon overtake him. Before he can fly away, he realizes he is already trapped by them (cage of lights). When he finally cuts off his black wings, he descends and attempts to act "normally". On the ground floor, he seems to move as if he misses or needs his wings again, but he shuns them as they attempt to reattach. Ultimately, he learns to fly without the wings attached to him. Bookish Theories channel incorporates some of this with the Jungian theories and Black Swan movie, in their new BTS Black Swan Explained vid. Much love, guys.
Poor Blaze, he so shook his heart 'bout to fly out o' his chest. Also, don't worry about y'r tears Blaze. I had chills and feels, and frankly, since I stayed up waiting for the track to drop, I was a quivering mess of nerves, then mad at it, then I listened 5 times before sleeping. ~hug of support~ Y'all go watch Bookish Theories for the analysis on this one, you'll feel better, I promise. Finally, listen to the radio version, it hits differently. I think you'll like it just as much but for slightly different reasons.
Agree 100%. We love all that BTS is, so we are delighted and honored when someone shares how BTS impacts them. This is what BTS is about, so how could we do anything but support it?
The company actually DID do their own thing. BTS or Bighit told them to go full out artsy with this. There supposedly was a more subtle choreo but the boys wanted this Company to just go all out and LOOK AT IT. It was the perfect choice!
th-cam.com/video/omGAAcI23I8/w-d-xo.html here’s there interview. What I also LOVED is that they said they were treated like stars. From the little I do know about MVs, or any performances, dancers tend to be treated like extras and not given as much respect. When JHope did chicken noodle soup with the dancers eached named, I felt like it was a statement of how they feel about it. Imo.
The dance company gave an interview and said they came up with a full "Dance" for the song but when they showed it to BTS and the team they asked if it could be more expressive and less "dance" orientated. So they refocused and created this piece. It was a past thing with BTS. Remember in 2018 they told us that they were thinking of disbanding. So I think this song reflects the conversations they had with themselves and each other during that time. How they were asking themselves has the passion gone, is the feeling lost? But in the middle of the piece they say no, they're back in the studio, they aren't letting the ocean drag them back to the bottom. At the end the recognize those pitfalls and doubts that lead them to their place of self doubt (the shadows) and they drew them in and realized all of that is part of it and they have to learn to work with it and accept it.
This art film and the lyrics are so deep. Fans who remember the year end speech know how emotional it was for the group. They were really burn out. They got the grand award at the end of year award from MAMA. Hobi started his thank you speech about how hard they try to make sure they give a perfect stage every time they perform and he got emotional and started to sob. Then Jin came forward and explained the guys were under huge pressure and thought of disbanding earlier that year. Hearing this Tae at the back started to cry and covered his face. JK went over to give him a hug while he himself was getting teary. Jin was teary as he spoke and the rest of the members were trying to hold back their tears. Tae was still sobbing after the show in backstage and couldn’t hide his teary eyes while posing for their group photos. Many fans cried that day and watching this film reminded me that day so I got teary. I wish for their happiness and hope people would be kinder to them. They really did a lot for their arts and for their fans.
One world to describe this song and mv is “MASTERPIECE”!!!! You should react to the studio version, it really different. Wowww!!!! This is the most like I have ever got. Thanks and purple you💜💜💜💜
i cried so much ! my husband came in the room thinking someone died . and i told him yes my life . i been depressed past 2 years its been hard and i had to explain to him the video and i couldnt even speak because i kept crying . but this was a big wakeup call . i did a 30 min walk outside the next day and i drew for the first time in years and i cried again lol i was so happy . this is why i fell in love with them years ago
THIS right here is why the relationship between BTS and Army is beyond what many can comprehend . We are never treated like mindless consumers. Rather like intelligent, sensitive , thoughtful people whom BTS trust to share their inner most fears and feelings with. It’s beautiful 💜
I think this was them saying they’re scared incase they eventually lose their passion for music, not that they’ve already lost it. It’s so different but so good!
Lucy I dont think the songs only on losing passion I believe . If u focus on the second half they are refusing to let that happen, and embracing their passion and letting it live through them. Just like hw it was in Shadow interlude where they come in terms with their shadow to follow their passion. It’s stressful but we gotta accept it to break free and take control. You can see this in the choreo too. First half the shadow was controling the main dancer but in the second half he drives them gently and turn them into their wings. Theres synergy btw passion and its shadows where they work together to get higher.
Lucy I think it’s telling the story of how maybe at one point they did feel like they were losing their passion, but also how they found it again. Remember their speech from 2018. At the beginning of 2018, they’d been thinking of disbanding, so perhaps this is telling that story.
Julia Crawford that’s an interesting theory, you could be right! I can’t wait for namjoon’s vlive once the album is out where he’ll talk about each song in more depth
I interpreted this in two ways. First in relation to the album theme and Jungian philosophy the swan is the self and the people in black are the wings which represent their shadow: the demons they are fighting. In the beginning the Swan is weighed down by his shadow so the swan is in a constant battle with his own wings, but after introspection realizes instead of fighting off the shadow he needs to embrace the shadows and be in control and in the end by doing so he can fly higher. In relation to the lyrics they are saying what they fear most is: what if we lose our passion for music (if the shadows or fame become too much) ? Who would I be? It would kill us...but after diving deep in themselves they realize they are the music...near the end they say we wont let the shadows overcome us (and the say it with fierocity) and once they can come to terms with their shadow and embrace it and be in control of ones self...then they will fly higher. (That's why the wings were lifting them). I do believe this classical version was intentional to fit with the CONNECT BTS art initiative happening right now. This is just another piece of it. The dance company said BTS gave them the music in October to interpret and when BTS saw the first dance they created they asked them to come up with something more contemporary and tell the story of the black swan through their music. A story of being consumed by passion and breaking free. I was blown away and yes, I cried too thinking about how heavy the burden of fame has become for them. What other artist gives you such an inside look into their souls? I feel very honored to be ARMY. This intimacy is so rare because bearing oneself to be scrutinized takes a very strong person....but that strength is what will drive them to succeed! This is pure art. The art film is beautifully connected to the music in that one would not be the same about the other. Side note: all 7 sing on this song and the voices are layered over one another making it difficult to distinguish who is singing. Rm and PDogg are writers and PDogg is the producer and their longtime mv director Lumpens did the art film production. (Some of those shots and angles were mesmerizing!) A masterpiece. The growth of this team is just getting better and better. Sorry so long. I am just deeply moved so far just by the first two releases. I cant wait for the full album. Love your sweater Niko and I appreciate all your reactions! Peace. 💜
Hello ma'am I just want to say I always see you in the comments of bts reactions ready to explain everything and you're just so thoughtful and smart, it's really evident how much you love and admire them 💜 thank you
I feel this album it’s an introspection of BTS towards their shadows and part of that it’s losing the love for your craft, in this case music, so yeah I agree it’s gonna be deep. As for the dance, it’s very meaningful specially if you see the movements of the swan trying to fly but unable and fighting its shadows. He can finally fly after embracing all of them. PD: I think the company got the concept of black swan and they did the choreography. Oh and you should listen to the original song. this was modified with classical instruments
I just wanted to give a shout out to MN Dance Company for their beautifully mesmerizing interpretation to the song. I realized that MN is a Slovenian dance company and they filmed the mv at an abandoned LA shopping center. Their first dance interpretation was more in tuned with the song but Big Hit and BTS wanted them to make it more classical to their own artsy interpretation style in tuned with the title the Black Swan instead. They were stunning and definitely captured he essence of the title and song.💜
Blaze my guy!! I cried too don’t be ashamed! When Music & art can make you feel raw emotions you know it’s something special! I can’t wait for the album! Thank you Adam, Blaze, & Nico for always being 💯 💜
In early 2018, this is where BTS was. It was when they were pondering disbanding or staying together and going further. The pressure was so high for them because they rose so high so fast. They struggled a lot during this time, and I truly believe this album is going to be a reflection of that dark time and their overcoming it.
Personal opinion: Every time I watch this dance I get emotional. It’s something that can relate with anyone. It doesn’t even have to be about losing passion for art or music. It could be a simple as losing passion for oneself. And that’s what I love about BTS. They write for themselves but it’s so so so genuine that it could be related to so many people with different struggles. As someone constantly struggling with depression and anxiety, I personally took it as losing progress in myself and being afraid and possibly giving up. When you’re in a good spot but something quickly pushes you back to that sad and lonely place. Then you kinda stay there for a bit because it’s sadly comforting. You let the demons/shadows/fear take over. In the second part of the song I felt as though the dancer was fighting and refusing to let himself go back to that place. And at the end the dancer was able to come to terms that this is his life. It won’t be perfect. However, he was in control of his demons/shadows/fears and was able to strive by making his weaknesses his strengths. BTS will always continue to make people dive deep and face those fears that one may have. The best part about it is knowing that we’re not alone. Thanks for reacting and being honest. Army loves you 💜
It’s ok Blaze let it out . ARMYS including myself Boo-Whoo’d crying when this masterpiece first came out . BTS IS DEFINITELY ON A WHOLE NOTHER LEVEL THIS YEAR!!!!
RM recently told the members of TXT right after one of BTS' concerts in the US, "Go out there and destroy the stage when you perform." This is just another way that BTS is destroying the stage. They are original and innovative. I can't wait to see how they choreograph Black Swan for themselves. This album has been mind blowing so far. Also, the beginning quote is by Martha Graham, a legend in modern and interpretive dance in the US. She broke boundaries in dance, just like BTS is now breaking boundaries in KPOP. I 💘 it!
One thing that they’ve always done is use the metaphor of desert and ocean. They’ve talked about how they used to be in a desert, but now they’re in a ocean. In this song they say there is ocean everywhere and it sounds like underwater, as if they’re drowning. It’s powerful imagery on its own, but knowing they’ve consistently used it and it switched places, since the ocean used to be the good thing, the symbol of success, but success drowned them. On the other hand, I don’t think they’re drowned by it, they’re afraid of it happening. Namjoon and Yoongi have been open before about how after winning BBMAs they were terrified of what’s gonna happen next. They’ve also been open about how they faced a lot of hardships at the beginning of 2018 when they nearly disbanded. They’re speaking from their experiences, but they can freely convey this message since they’re either over it, or they’re working on it. Check out the Spotify/Apple version, the instrumentation and mix are different.
Rather than this being about them having LOST their passion for music this is about the FEAR of losing it. The FEAR of it becoming a burden/chore. Which is a fear anyone who has something they are deeply passionate about to the point its a part of them has. Its opening up about this fear. Its not that they have lost it nor are they saying good-bye. This is tying into their album which has the themes of shadow and I'm very curious to see where the rest of its going.
No, it's about them having lost it. It's why they almost disbanded. Remember their speech from 2018 where they admitted this. But they faced their fears and doubts, accepted their shadows and were renewed. The lyrics reflect this by saying in the darkest part, they saw themselves in the practice room and studio......but they shouted and fought back with ferocity and at the end they fly with help from their shadows.
@@Orion_TheyThem I remember when they talked about disbanding but I remember them talking about being SCARED of what was going to happen. If they had LOST it they'd have disbanded and that would be the end of things. The stronger you love something the more negative the feelings and reactions when you lose your love for it. If this song was really saying they LOST their passion at that time rather than the fear of it they probably would have disbanded. They no longer love or see a point in what they are doing. But they DO love and see a point in it. Why its talking about the FEAR of it becoming something like that which also plays into shadow and suppressed fears. And every article I have read so far talks about them facing fears and shadows as an artist. Nothing talking about them having actually lost it. Well outside of that bad one written by that awful journalist who wouldn't know facts if it bit her in the ar$e.
@@Karameida well yeah. She was saying they were still in it. And no.....go back and watch Vlives right after that speech. They said they had literally started to lose their passion due to the pressure and stress. And they talked about disbanding. But that they talked through it and realised they do still love it and found a way to bring new life. They had thought about it for a year, but their contract wasn't up so they had to push through. And in pushing through, and being open and honest with each other, they faced it and came out on the other side, stronger.
BTS' letter to ARMY: "to ARMYs all over the world who give love to our song, thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We will be together with music in 2020 too, as well as in the future. good music. IF WE HAVE ARMY, BTS is happy. And we will be happy. We love you all so much. please be happy!"
The simplest interpretation for this is they are talking about their fear of losing their passion towards music. They know how much they helped and moved us through their encouraging lyrics and i think they feel responsible and fear what if they can't continue to do so. This does not apply to dancers/singers/artist only. It's about losing your passion to anything you do. It could be love as well. If you loss something you're passionate to or someone you love you feel like dying right? This song is really relatable.
Your reaction touched my heart on a level that no other has done. I was a dancer growing up and stopped at only 17 years old when I suffered a severe knee injury. I spent years talking about how the first half of my life was completely opposite of the first half. Not until Black Swan did I realize I truly suffered a death when I had to give up one of the things that I loved the most. Thank God for y'all. I love you guys and appreciate your channel! 😭💜😭💜😭
I've watched it a couple of dozen times now and I still get teary towards then end scene. Both BTS and the MN Dance Company have done a phenomenal job of this. If this album doesn't get them a Grammy nomination I give up!!!
Blaze you’re killing me. You don’t know why you’re tearing up. It’s BTS LOVE man. Every time I see them I tear up and cry tears. Plus my heart fills up so full it hurts. Hang in there we all share it
Blaze we got you boo let it out man. I full on sobbed after watching this video my dream was to be a choreographer but I twisted my spine in high school and i can never bring that dream to life. But i still fight to keep that passion in any way I can. Thank you for sharing this emotion and love 💜
Poor Blaze was so terrified and amazed at the same time hahaha Black Swan just surprised me so much, it's so so different from what everything bts has ever done, I love it!
i think that quote is applicable to all forms. when the passion in you has died, you'll feel empty in your life. and it's painful to go by day by day without it thus the first death is more painful. you're alive but dead inside.
Watching this MV brought tears to my eyes as its just so full of emotion the dancing is an Yoongi and Namjoon just kill those vocals and to those saying they cant sing they can
the way blaze was so moved and passionate about sharing what he felt about the art film brought me close to tears. black swan really resonates with me as it speaks of bts' fear of losing passion for the art that they love and devoted most of their life to: music. and i think any artist, any person who creates, any person with any passion, can empathize with that fear in some way. i definitely did. thank you for this wonderful reaction!
This song is for whoever can relate to being afraid of loosing any sort of art that they love. We can also feel that in the whole project going around with Map of the soul : 7, it brings together not only people with their music but also arts as we can see in this dance performance and even the BTS connect project which highlight artists from all other the world in gallery. The whole dance express the pain of knowing you won't be able to live your art your whole life and fearing this time the most. It relates to Swan Lake that embodies burning oneself to ashes because of how strong your despair is about loosing something you love the most but still wanting to keep going until the end even though you know well it will destroy you. The shadows are the part of yourself that knows you should give up, it's like how your conscience try to hold you back to protect you but you still want to go on. The first part shows the pain and wavering of having to accept and acknowledge the reality of being hurt by your choice and fighting against yourself. Only then you can let go the fear that froze you up and that's the second part. It allows you to go on knowing well what awaits you but still going on because you are in peace with yourself. You are still afraid but ready to go to the end
Bangtan just brought this dance company out of virtual obscurity into global recognition. The power of Bangtan and ARMY. This is an incredibly beautiful, and in the end, triumphant interpretation of the song.
Musician, singer, pop star, none of that is adequate for what bts has really, truly become. They're artist. In the pure definition of the word. They're creating art. They have been for awhile but like, anyone that looks at this and wants to somehow degrade them is blind or willfully ignorant. This is just.... art. Its creation and creativity. I genuinely cannot respect them more than I do.
This emotional response, is exactly what art, in all its forms, should be made for [whether it be tears, laughter or rage, art should make us feel] Good to know I’m not alone getting feels from this film.
I've been an Army for 5 years and I found myself falling in love with them, their music, their personalities and the message they want to share with their music; again and again so I feel always like a baby ARMY 💜💜
For me, the 6 other people who wore black clothes were the shadows of the half naked dancer who represents the Black Swan. At first, the Swan was trying to run away from his shadows (as we all know, Shadow represents our negative traits and emotions that we want to repress). As you see, the Swan was fighting his Shadow because he doesn't want to show it(his weaknesses) and maintain his persona but as the song progress he slowly realized that the Shadow was a part of himself and by admitting it he was able to finally set himself free, soar high and fly.
Exactly my thoughts, blake! Its as if this song (and maybe the album itself) is bts' love letter to their craft, and they're never giving it up, darkness or doubts aside. My favourite, favourite reaction video to 'black swan' so far.
RM once said that he was trying to make an analogy that BTS were the waves of the ocean and ARMY was the wind whipping the waves and then he realized that ARMY was the ocean... supporting and pushing the waves up. I feel like we (ARMY) are all moving along with BTS ... that we are surging into new territories with them and BECOMING.....
I'm so glad that I've already done my major part of crying over BTS' music with their previous albums, so it's possible for me not to cry so hard now. Their art really helps to deal with the hardest and deepest issues inside one's mind
This is an extension of Shadow. Creativity to express creativity. Again embrace the shadows, work with them, and let them lift you. You guys are the best!
In the dance, it seemed as if the swan was fighting his wings, but in the end he embraced them and was then able to fly. This goes along with the Carl Jung stuff, how you have to embrace your dark side/Shadow to become a whole person.
'Swan' song is very important to artists and dancers as it signified their last performance and their retirement. This song and performance actually spoke to me a lot. The fear of losing love for your craft. ..or your first dead. As an artist who's losing passion as life goes by and it force you to work on projects that you are not passionate in but need to in order to support yourself. Also living in a country with limited freedom of speech and expression just kill me inside daily. A struggling main dancer that try to fly in a dark and abandoned broken surrounding, plus the suffocating and dying feeling from the lyrics. The black suite dancers that act like obstacles and negativities trying to hold the main dancer back and put him into a box. But in the end the main dancer fight back and eventually use those darkness to help propel him to fly again just like how artists use their life experiences and struggling to inspire their works. This is how I interpret this performance. It does help sooth me and inspire me more after watching and listen to BTS 'Black Swan'. Thank you so much BTS, MN Dance Company, and Big Hit.
As far as I know yes the MN Dance Company choreographed this themselves! I absolutely loved the dance, its mirrors their messages of facing and accepting your shadows so well, and you guys already mentioned a bunch of things I noticed as well. So clearly the man is the black swan who at the beginning is almost swallowed up by his shadows, the other dancers. He's being forced down, in the song the loss of passion for your art is described as an artist first death and there's a part of the choreography where the dancer is laying on the ground literally under the six feet of the dancers, as in 'six feet under', death. He is in a cage being pulled back almost like a leaf being pulled in by the ocean waves, mirroring the lyrics of the song, unable to go against them. Then he manages to break free from his shadows and unfolds his wings, the arms behind his back, he's free of them and you think he won and then...he goes down. Down the elevator. He doesn't just fly away but instead goes and faces his shadows, confronts them, doesn't let them pull him under and then amazingly, suddenly they aren't trying to tear at him anymore instead they are following his movements, are in sync with him. At the end they are in the same position again but this time the shadows lift him up and finally, finally the Black Swan starts flying. It's beautiful, absolutely beautiful.
I think you really would find their song ‘sea’ spectacular. It’s a hidden track from their ly: her album. it’s a very precious song to bangtan and army. It’s so close to my heart that I cry whenever I hear it. thank you for your video, as always. it always cheers up my day. 💜☺️
This hits so much harder right now, knowing this would have been when they were going to take this break. Hearing these lyrics and knowing they FELT this.
It's okay to cry bro, I cried too, because this song talks about the fear of every artist, that every stumble, block, and obstacle is that time when your passion dies, where you lose your spark and fire. The dance symbolizes this from the start, where he (the main dancer) followed his shadows, he was downtrodden and beaten, always being pushed down, and when he tried to get out of his cage, the kept pulling him in. At the end he decided to face his demons, shadows, insecurities, and the part where it becomes creepy, is his accepting the darkness, and the walk down the escalator is him descending deep within himself, and because of him accepting his shadows he conquered them (they followed his movements) and then he was finally able to fly. It's hella deep and speaks to anyone who has a passion. Shadow reminded me of where they talked about disbanding but this made me think about how they talked about disbanding due to pressure and exhaustion and fear, but they realize that they love music too much and decided to fight for it.
You’ve earned a subscriber in me today with this video. Blaze is so damn insightful and entertaining and just such a passionate artist. He was such a wonderful addition to your team, please keep him in all the vids and plz tell him I love him
I also want to let people know a korean army saw the lyrics and notice this " OP noticed that the Korean lyrics in the part, "my heart doesn't beat anymore when I hear the music", has another meaning when you take note of the spelling of the "doesn't" (않는대 "an-neun-de"). "Doesn't" can be spelled in two ways in korean, "않는대" & "않는데". The difference lies in the last character 데/대 and th subject of the topic changes by this single difference. The first spelling, "않는데", is used when the speaker is talking about himself. So the verse will mean, "MY heart doesn't beat anymore". But the latter, "않는대", which is shown in the lyrics (OP's ss), is used when the speaker is not the subject so the meaning of the verse becomes something like "they* say the heart doesn't beat anymore when they* hear the music". *can be "s/he" too " cr twt @ _MusicLivesOn_ original twt cr @7borara original link if ur interested twitter.com/_MusicLivesOn_/status/1218426150361288716?s=19
I think you’re tearing up because this is really special. It’s amazing art, but it’s also a remarkable gift to fans. Honesty, beauty in our darkest times, grace. It’s deeply moving. I also think it’s special all of us are getting to share this experience across the world. 💜💜💜
1. So the dancer were given the song and concept and they created the dance themselves 2. It's so interesting if u watch it again u can see he I at first trying to fly high but having trouble lots of pit falls, so he thinks he needs to escape the shadows so breaks free but once he breaks free the music flat lines and he can't fly off the top of the stairs. Then he keeps trying to battle them but then realizes he needs to work with them and when he does he starts to fly higher.
i cried watching. when the song dropped 4am i went to the art film before spotify and cried, went to spotify and jumped around my room because i realized the audio is different like ???? the f beat ?? the bass goes so hard then went to decipher the art film, cried again, watched and cried again. i spent the first part of my day looping before i made and saved streaming playlists... explains 43% of our streams being filtered. anyways BTS GENIUSES PDOGG GENIUS NAMJOON GENIUS EVERYONE IN THE BIGHIT PRODUCING STUDIOS IQ 3000
I was already emotional when I watched it the first two times but Blaze had me crazy sobbing. I understand everything he was tryna say and I’m not even a dancer but I am someone who has a talent that I love and there are times when it feels like a slight death during the times when I had to stop. Thank you for feeling and seeing what we all know; BTS are true artists and are generous in providing not only content for us ARMY but also this MV shows just how generous they are to the art/dance/music community at large in allowing this dance troupe to shine.
This shows that ambition leads to affect life such as the feeling of EGO to achieve a dream. That scene where the dancer was at the moving his shoulder it's like checking it's wings. The power intrepretation of the music through dance tears me up.After watching the video and lyrics it haunts me.And question myself did I lose the passion?"like it's my first death" that was really deep. That's why I stan bts it keeps me asking myself and thinking and digging my very own shadow.
I was waiting for it! There is no end to how honest BTS can be with their music, they are literally educating us throught their music and sharing their most inner demons, insecurities, fears for the whole world to see. That performance perfectly portrays the lyrics, mood, message and deliver the dynamic of it in the best way possible: that's A. R. T. I felt so overwhelmed and mitigated watching this, feeling this way without them appearing once just shows how far BTS has got and how much their music isn't made just to be trending or anything, they pour themselves soo much into BTS and their music that it would feel like dying to loose that passion, love for it JK said back in 2013 that his moto was "i would rather die passionate than live without passion" .
I sobbed for hours after the first time I watched the performance vid with the lyrics. It was very powerful already, but as someone who has had my passion die, it was like a punch in the heart....
Following the Shadow mv, this is facing there shadow fears. They are musicians, what will happen if they loose the passion to create, to perform? Several of them have struggled with periods of depression. RM has talked about periods of no inspiration, where the lyrics won't come and they don't have a that desire that started it all, the desire to share. Namjoon (RM)and Yoongi ( Suga) both said early on the reason why they are artists is that they must share what is going on inside themselves, it gives them comfort and lessens the pain and fear and lonliness, it's how they can function in this world. But what if they can't. Like Yoongi shared in Shadow, being up so hi makes you scared of falling down. One fear that this song explores is falling down because you no longer feel the passion. Every time the rappers hit a creative dry spell or one of the dancers get's hurt, they must face this fear that this is the beginning of the end. And it could swallow them. They find their identity in their music, they don't know who they would be without it. It's a fear not only of a fall from fame but a loss of identity, a death of themselves. But Jin's line expresses that they are not giving in to the fear, but screaming ferociously into that darkness. They will fight against the fear and fight to keep connecting to that music inside.
I think it's a song they made last year. They wanted to break up and not continue their contract in 2018 - watch Jin's Mama speech. But they pulled themselves together and assessed their purpose in life- music.
This is from the official press release describing Black Swan. "The song sees BTS dive deep into their inner selves as artists and face the shadows they had once hidden. The song lends voice to their fears that one day music will no longer be able to move or touch them. The very moment they come face to face with the Black Swan within themselves, however, they are stricken with a paradoxical retaliation that music is all they have. It is a confession of an artist who has truly learned what music means to himself." The quote at the beginning of the MV describes what BTS is trying to express with this latest song. Black Swan fits in well with the concept of this album, which is delving into the darker side of one's psyche. A lot of people love BTS and are worried about them, but I feel they are just using their art to express the fear that many artists have about one day not being able to do or enjoy the thing they love most, perhaps due to injury, ageing, or loss of desire, etc. Music and performing are such a crucial and important part of their lives. Suga did say that this past year was the happiest he had ever been though, and Bangtan have all expressed that they were really happy due to their world stadium tour as it was a dream come true for them.
This whole project just blows my mind. This is not a comeback, this is an art movement! Also, I looked it up, MN Dance Company choreographed this. They're performing Black Swan live for the first time on January 28 on the James Corden show. I CANNOT WAIT to see what their performance is like! I'm sure they probably won't do this choreo, but the way this comeback is going, THERE'S JUST NO WAY TO KNOW. I'm nervous and excited at the same time. THIS ALBUM IS GOING TO BLOW UP THE WORLD.
I agree that their newest album is going to be a massive hit. Especially today BTS flying out to LA to promote Connect BTS and promote this song on James Corden show. It’ll be the first time they will be performing this song live. I’m so so looking forward to this live performance.
Excellent!!! Good thing you three boys are SOMEWHAT used to the magnificence of BTS by now so this deep indoctrination into their brilliance isn't overwhelming you and making you turn away. Having watched and loved BTS for years now I never cease to be amazed at how they seem to just get better and better. How is that possible? I think they have really, FINALLY arrived now. They have the power and the freedom to do and create whatever the hell they feel like creating. Welcome to the inner sanctum of their minds and hearts. The gift they are giving us brings me to tears. Good to watch you sharing this journey with us! Sending love.
Their new contract started last year I believe. They signed a year before their last contract ended and it was for 7 years. Whenever you see ANYONE boohoo about BigHit not treating them well or like kpop puppets, just remember 148 IQ RM and BTS at the TOP of the kpop heap, were in the drivers seat when it came to negotiations. They were willing to break up bc it was hard and tiring. They talked about it. They had made their money and could go do ANYTHING they wanted without the same pressure or world’s mocking eyes. They chose to stay for a long time. I have strong feelings they have shares of the company that aren’t already bought. They aren’t breaking up for a while and once they can’t be a ‘boy group’ anymore I foresee them still creating as a BigHit sublabel in however they please. Imo. 💜
Feel ya blaze! Got the same chills and my eyes keep tearing. I don't know why but I felt like blaming myself if the boys are going thru something. Painful. But I love the song! So much emotions.. . So much power! It's overwhelming! I wish I could hug them and let them know 'We Understand' and we will always be here for you and support you no matter what.
I think we can all understand Blaze's reaction. I was certainly hit the same way, and once you realize the story and emotions that they are trying to tell to the audience, it makes perfect sense why they chose to back off of the flair and color and brightness of their usual videos to leave the raw emotions in the dance. Seeing this right after shadow gives me hope though, because the dancers in black look like the shadows. At the beginning they control his movements, and when he tries to escape them, they pull him back in. But eventually, he learns to fight them off and try to run away. "Now I know that running away could be an option too." Of course, they follow him, but at the end, he doesn't let them control him. He uses the shadows to help raise himself up and fly. My hope is that BTS is reaching that point of using the shadows rather than being engulfed by them. That's my little ray of hope.
I honestly and literally cried for hours while watching and streaming black swan yesterday that I had to stop at some point because it's like it's haunting me. my head hurt for crying so much. it's just so painful that as you keep watching it, you'll realize more and more of what they wanted to say. I wish I could do something for BTS so that they wouldn't have to think of those thoughts that they're having by sharing us this black swan, but I'm just a fan and I can't do anything for them. and it hurts to think about it.
Oh man, there’s so much to dissect with this song and MV. From the lyrics, to the dancing, to the way their voices harmonize together like that- it’s deep af. I saw someone on Twitter point this out but the Persona album was for army, but this new album is definitely for BTS. We’re hearing their fears and anxieties, but music is a way for them to heal. I agree with what Blaze said at the end. Keep fighting. After accepting your shadows, you’ll be able to fly. The Spotify version is a bop, so can’t wait for your guys’ reaction. You all nice, keep going!
just to share my interpretation on this MV... i hve 2 interpretation... the first one is it relates to ones passion (afraid of losing them, it could be dancing, singing and etc) and another one it relates to Shadows (back to the Map of Soul -Shadows theory and definition, this MV shows how a person in that moment feels when the Shadows are overpowering and suffocates them)
Blaze was me the first time I listened to this song!!! The dance is definitely multifaceted. I’m blown away by the storytelling through the human body. The words of the song made more powerful by the dance! At the end, Once he gets his shadows to obey him they lift him up. I Cried!
Yes i honestly think this song was made at that certain point of their life and career where they were questioning if they need to continue being BTS. They then decided to renew their contract for another 7 years this means they overcome that turmoil.. lets cheer up and be proud of the boys overcoming such emotions where every artist struggle with. Losing your passion and being stuck in a rut is one of most painful experience one artist can go through that could lead them to give up and end everything they know and worked hard for in their life. Thus the first quote applies not only to dancer but to any artist or person with something they have passion about and worked their whole life for.
I absolutely don't think they are saying this is the end, but bts are indeed looking within themselves in this song and singing honestly about the possibility of they losing passion for doing music and how this scares them so much, how stoping doing music would indeed be their first death and how painful this would be. I saw a twitter thread of a dancer talking about the performance and they said how it all connects to the shadow thing, and how in the end the dancer, as yoongi in the shadow interlude, ends up accepting his shadows and flying no matter what.
You guys' reaction was beautiful. You paid such great attention and picked up so much more than I did when I first watched. You guys really got it. I really appreciate your take on it. Thank you. Also if you'd like a more extensive look at what the song and dance means please look at Bookish Theories explanation and analysis.
Art inspires. Whether in the way it inspired the dancers to create this piece, or it inspires a person to look inside and create something in their life. THIS is why all art is important, and BTS are opening people's minds to so many different kinds of culture.
I feel BTS has moved beyond Kpop musically and artistically now. Bravo to BTS and MN Dance Co, Encore!👏👏👏💐🕺🎶🎤👑🤗😍💜💞✌🙏 MN is a dance company from Slovenia, Germany. BTS starting working with them since October 2019 on this choreography.
the first half of the song is about feeling lost and feeling stagnant, but for the second half of the song is about them having their passion revivified and realizing they are not lost as long as they have music in them. they refuse to let that "losing passion about music" happen, so they embrace their passion and letting it live through them .
#1 on itunes chart on 96 countries. Including 1st #1 on uk's itunes chart first time ever by a Korean act. The record to break is 112 (set by Adele). By the way, BTS has the most fans from America. So thank you America for loving our boys 💜.
I just want to say, that BTS' music and lyrics had always been deep and full of meaning. They give us ARMYs hope to be proud of ourselves. But with this new album, I think it has a very new meaning because they show us their very own feelings, thoughts and fears especially the fears of losing the passion for music and the art. So, that's what makes this video and that new album a masterpiece even before we had the chance to fully listen to it. This video with this arrangement, this awesome dancers and also the comeback trailer took really my breathe away and I really can't wait for what's gonna be next to come.
I would have liked to spend an hour with you guys on this discussion, seriously! And don't worry, Blaze, BTS renewed their contract recently so we are not losing them (...except temporarily for the military service. Pray for world peace.)
Since you guys have dance background, I wanted to share my interpretation based on my personal background.

Blaze’s reaction is 110% what I believe BTS wants us to feel when we hear the song or watch the art film
~hug of support~
Y'all go watch Bookish Theories for the analysis on this one, you'll feel better, I promise.
Finally, listen to the radio version, it hits differently. I think you'll like it just as much but for slightly different reasons.
Agree 100%. We love all that BTS is, so we are delighted and honored when someone shares how BTS impacts them. This is what BTS is about, so how could we do anything but support it?
i've watched it so many times already and still get misty eyed at the end. it's a very beautiful performance
Imo.
@@js3839 Huge thanks for that interview link!
The audio version on Spotify is sick. The background music is completely different. You guys should definitely check it out!!!
Ebony71 Never heard it put that way before 🤔 I love that!
Can u please give me link to that interview u are talking about?
@@SuperAttitudeLover The interview was on twitter and it was in german but someone roughly translated it. You'll have to search for it.
not german, what ever slovenians speak.
Rafiya Fairooz oh yeah definitely I thought that too! there are so many links between shadow and this
Julia Crawford that’s an interesting theory, you could be right! I can’t wait for namjoon’s vlive once the album is out where he’ll talk about each song in more depth
@@rafiyafairooz9530 I absolutely agree with you. well-said.
this comeback will be the biggest and most artistic one yet 😶
Bangtan- Sonyeondan I'm right on time🤓😏
Right on time, indeed. So glad you're with us. 💜
blaze, immediately: "im scared bruh" lmao i felt that i always get so excited idk what to expect or what to do with myself
Peace. 💜

@@Yandy_xyou are so sweet. I just want to share my love and admiration for BTS
Blaze just slowly and quietly losing his shit gets me every time
If your crying your not the only one BTS gets you in your feels and make you think harder.
PD:
I think the company got the concept of black swan and they did the choreography.
Personal opinion:
Every time I watch this dance I get emotional.
Bro this is genius, I didn't think of this!!
Also, the official statement released from BigHit that accompanied this music video explained that that was what the song/video meant.
If this doesn't bring you to tears you ain't human ... this is so powerful and vulnerable.
BTS' letter to ARMY:
"to ARMYs all over the world who give love to our song, thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Blaze we got you boo let it out man.
I full on sobbed after watching this video my dream was to be a choreographer but I twisted my spine in high school and i can never bring that dream to life. But i still fight to keep that passion in any way I can.
Thank you for sharing this emotion and love 💜
"I'm scared brahh"
Literally not even 5 seconds in and I can relate so hard to how I reacted to the video
Poor Blaze was so terrified and amazed at the same time hahaha
Black Swan just surprised me so much, it's so so different from what everything bts has ever done, I love it!
i think that quote is applicable to all forms. when the passion in you has died, you'll feel empty in your life. and it's painful to go by day by day without it thus the first death is more painful. you're alive but dead inside.
Watching this MV brought tears to my eyes as its just so full of emotion the dancing is an Yoongi and Namjoon just kill those vocals and to those saying they cant sing they can
the way blaze was so moved and passionate about sharing what he felt about the art film brought me close to tears. black swan really resonates with me as it speaks of bts' fear of losing passion for the art that they love and devoted most of their life to: music. and i think any artist, any person who creates, any person with any passion, can empathize with that fear in some way. i definitely did. thank you for this wonderful reaction!
this video, no matter how many times i watch it, always gives me chills. its so hauntingly beautiful, this comeback really will be something special
MN is actually fairly well known in Europe - the Slovenian company performs at many international dance festivals.
7 feels like an outcry of their struggles are. Highly relatable it makes you cry.
I'm with BLAZE when I first watched this video and listened to the music I started to cry as well it really is a remarkable MASTERPIECE
Heyyy guys, make sure you also react tp the spotify version of Black Swan it’s more of emo-hiphop style!! Loving the reactions💖💖💖
And also this is only a b-side from the album not the lead single so the actual comeback didn’t happen yet😭
Tearra Miller no it is a single. That's why it has a video made for it and they will be promoting it on shows. It's just not the Lead single.
Hina
Isn’t that what they just said tho lol?
@@xelopi I agree it is not a lead single, but it is very much a single and not a b-side.
Hina Well I know that lmao but I was letting them know it wasn’t the lead single. But most likely it’s probably a b-side from the album tho
It feels so good to see the people fully enjoying everything in this great art film as so much as I do.
He was such a wonderful addition to your team, please keep him in all the vids and plz tell him I love him
Wow thanks so much for the nice words and I Love Ya right back💜💜💜❗
I also want to let people know a korean army saw the lyrics and notice this
"
OP noticed that the Korean lyrics in the part, "my heart doesn't beat anymore when I hear the music", has another meaning when you take note of the spelling of the "doesn't" (않는대 "an-neun-de").
*can be "s/he" too "

I think you’re tearing up because this is really special. It’s amazing art, but it’s also a remarkable gift to fans. Honesty, beauty in our darkest times, grace. It’s deeply moving. I also think it’s special all of us are getting to share this experience across the world. 💜💜💜
"I don't know why I keep tearing up" "...when people hear your stuff and they recieve THAT? jeez"
Man blaze gets me
1. So the dancer were given the song and concept and they created the dance themselves
Thank you for feeling and seeing what we all know; BTS are true artists and are generous in providing not only content for us ARMY but also this MV shows just how generous they are to the art/dance/music community at large in allowing this dance troupe to shine.
you should watch "BTS BLACK SWAN Meaning Explained: Lyrics and MN Dance Company Art Film Breakdown and Analysis" by Bookish Theories
Agreed Here is BTS Black Swan Meaning Explained by Bookish Theories th-cam.com/video/mWyDI_Z_kxg/w-d-xo.html
i agree! and other bookish theories explanations are amazing..
I totally understand, I teared up too and still tearing up when watching this with you guys.
I think it's a song they made last year. They wanted to break up and not continue their contract in 2018 - watch Jin's Mama speech. But they pulled themselves together and assessed their purpose in life- music.
The dance part at 12:43, Jimin did it at Fake Love dance break at MAMA 2018.
It is a confession of an artist who has truly learned what music means to himself."
The quote at the beginning of the MV describes what BTS is trying to express with this latest song.
ARMY have learned more from BTS than they ever did in school especially about art and literature.
Imo. 💜
they signed it last year. it did not become active last year. last year, they were still on their old contract.
You guys really appreciate it, I'm so thankful.
I love Blaze's emotionality, man. He says all the stuff I try to express to my non-ARMY friends. I get so hype watching his reactions.
Thanks I just try to speak what I feel and BTS put you through emotional rollercoasters lol!!!
BlazeHVShow Faaaacts! 🤓
YES nico at 16:15 that what is ART they're showing us all kind of art and if you're following up with the BTS connect it's just so beautiful
You guys' reaction was beautiful. You paid such great attention and picked up so much more than I did when I first watched. You guys really got it. I really appreciate your take on it. Thank you. Also if you'd like a more extensive look at what the song and dance means please look at Bookish Theories explanation and analysis.
PREACH, BLAZE!!! I love your passion!!!

Blaze,
sweetheart it's okay to tear up. I was literally bawling my eyes out throughout the day when this song dropped, listening to it on repeat mode.
My mind immediately goes back to their 2018 MAMA Daesang acceptance speech...
This comeback is gonna be huge...!
