I just came across this video randomly in my feed, and I have to say, what a beautiful display of honesty and vulnerability. I have been struggling so long with what you mentioned about the fear of being seen and judged overpowering the urge to create. It has caused me to hide within myself, to paint what what is conventionally expected, and I have no idea how to return to myself and my personal creative visions.
Apologies for the delayed response. Thank you so much for leaving this comment. I totally empathise with you. It's not easy but at the end of the day why make something that feels comfortable? I don't think it should feel easy to paint something with honesty as 1. you may not know exactly all the deep rooted memories and experiences you are pulling from or tapping into but also 2. it takes a lot of vulnerability to allow people in. In times like this I like to look at artists, particularly female artists, who have made bold work that I look up to (Frida Kahlo, Ana Mendieta, Tracey Emin and Louise Bourgeois to name a few). If they did it, so can you!
Glad I watched till the end as I found it very interesting to hear your thoughts on religion and art. I’m not religious but also fascinated by it, and the idea of why people are drawn to it, and the role it plays within communities and what they get from it. I find religious art and symbolism beautiful, it draws me in even though I don’t believe. I always thought it was due to being brought up Catholic in Ireland, that it was a nostalgia. Anyway, really glad to have found your channel, excited to watch more.
So happy I found your channel! Love your energy and the road you're on... many of us are in similar, but unique positions, and perspective is everything ❤ Thank you for being so open and courageous for putting yourself, your art and your thoughts out here for all of us.
Absolutely agree with the emerging religious ideals in art, I personally come from a Southern Baptist background and want to create work exploring myself in the topic
I just stumbled on to this video by chance but I love how you express your thoughts and hearing about your art process is such an inspiration! Please keep posting! ❤💜
@@imposterchild5688 that is so meaningful to hear, thank you for the lovely comment. I definitely will! I love finding artists who resonate with similar themes, it’s so fulfilling 🤎
Fascinating to hear you think, thank you for sharing this video and your work. Your university experience reminds me a lot of mine. I studied fashion design and every year I was completely committed and fascinated by different things- costume design, historical fashion, and recycling textiles and what not. Putting together a portfolio would be very difficult indeed! Continue riding the waves of your creativity, take it as it comes. Looking forward to seeing where you go !
@@ad_hoc_ist thank you for the lovely comment. I love hearing other people who have followed a path similar to my own. Historical fashion sounds so fascinating to study! What an interesting trajectory your studies have taken you on. I wish you all the best with your practice. It sounds very exciting and thank you for sharing 🤎🤎🤎
I love your vision- so many things you said resonate with me. I’m an artist in university as well, using morning pages, and about to start investigating non- traditional self portraiture
@@sarahperkins9604 amazing!!! I love to hear this. I feel so many of us are following the same common thread. It’s all so exciting. I wish you the best of luck with university 🤎
I really like your art Lara! Can't wait to follow your career.
