I've got one of those Rabaconda devices. I'm, at best, okay at changing tyres but without flustering I can change a mousse tyre in about 15 minutes, including lubing the mousse. I did it once without the Rabaconda, with a mousse. 2 hours, a pint of blood lost out of my knuckles and the rimlock not seated. I highly recommend using the guide Vanessa Ruck aka Girl on a Bike does. If you follow it, every bit of it, even the bits which don't make a lot of sense, after 15 minutes, you'll be cinching up your rinlocks like a boss. I fit mousses about twice a year, max, so I don't do it enough to have a knack so I just follow Vanessa's guide and the tyre pops on. With a regular inner tube I take about 10 minutes to change a tube and unless you're running mousses and you change them youself, the Rabaconda is a bit pointless. But if you're running mousses, bite hard and pay the money. Your knuckles will thank you, but you'll never be as good as this lass. She's amazing!
Thank you so much for your feedback! Totally agree; Vanessa has done a fantastic job with this professional and easy-to-follow guide for proper mousse changes
It's good to see a rider that is willing to do some of the work and not think they are above it. For those that remember riders like Jean Michelle Bell from the 90's who was moto-x version of Kyle Bush.
At that level with her support, someone should be doing the work. Wasting energy and risking an injury doesn’t make sense. Why she is changing both tires on race day is my question. That should be done ahead of time or have an additional set of wheels and fresh tires.
Because your stupid man and don't know how to channel that anger into changing the tire. Stop standing around swearing and use that anger and energy to do the tire. duh. common sense.
There solid tires with no tubes. Notice how she didn’t line a valve stem up. Anyone could this in 6 mins. Now let’s see her do it with tubes. Cuz ain’t no fucking they’d hold air after her install 😂😂😂😂😂
Long way from the old days of running tubes with bead locks, then rim pins, pumps then co’2 canisters, Finalek (liquid puncture sealer) and 2 x 8 inch tyre levers wedged into a bumbag or jammed in the air box…….. I can remember changing a tyre in Weipa in the 80’s and the wheel was nearly solid mud……

Anyone else watch to see the actress change a motorcycle tire? Then remember halfway in that that is "Jennifer" and not "Jessica"? Still. Good technique is never disappointing to watch.
Yes. For the duration of the event riders must work on their own machines so all tire and mousse swaps, oil and air filter changes, and general repairs must be done by the riders within the allocated times (15minutes per day). If it takes longer than that, then penalties start to mount up.
Let’s do the math.. Tire changer is $450-$500… if you’re a non racer you may go through 1 of tires per year but for the sake of argument, most tire shops/tents charge $20 per tire , some will actually do it for free, so $40 per pair.. meaning this tire changer would not pay for itself for at least 10 years… numbers don’t lie folks,,
It's all in the technique and the number of tire irons. I only use 3 and a large screwdriver. Now I see I need 3 more. It makes a difference if you have a machine to hold it steady to. It's just technique. Like most things. woman or man it's the same. This is not a strength project. 🙂
Get the first edge in with 2 levers lay the wheel on the ground apply lube, and walk the tyre on. You will not damage the rim or tyer. For removal break off the beads push the tyre into the well on one side and insert on lever between the rim and tyer levers the bead over the rim at that spot then insert the second levers next to it and levers more of the tyre over the rim. With a 1/4 the tyer over the rim on one side turn the wheel over and push a long lever right under the tyre and lever against the opposite rim, tyer off. Always ensure the tyer bead drops into the rim when levering and you will have no problems Some car and light trucks have an offset rim well in which case you must take them off fron the side nearest the offset. Why do people make such a big deal over changing tyers. Some of the patronising comments here about a woman changing a tyer, badly, are right out of order.
they use bib mousse inserts for a decade or more now, no problem with pinching. And no, no problem with scratching the rims as dirt bike rims get scratched anyways if they are used for the purpose they were built for
I’m a little impressed but I spend most of my time fighting the tube and rim locks. Did she use a mousse in each tire or was this just a fake demonstration?
Nope. Take a mousse to most motorcycle shops in UK or Ireland and you'll have to avoid your arse getting hit by the door on the way out. I can do a mousse change with a Rabaconda in about 20 minutes, and I have total respect for that young woman. The tyre troll at the tyre shop, less so with a tyre press. Can I ask, have you ever swapped out a bib mousse?
If you're changing one a year for fun trail-riding like me, sure. If you're competing it's required equipment same as a wrench set. Costs about the same as one (big) Snap-on ratchet and is used for every tire change - good investment.
Yeah, Aussie chicks are tops. She cut up a bullock and whipped up a stack of ripper steak sandwiches for the local footy team in about 15 mins just after this ;)
Yes! At F.I.M. ISDE the riders are the only ones who can perform maintenance on their bikes. They all use F.I.M. approved 140 wide tires and matching 140 mousse.
