@eamonfay That's an excellent observation because that's exactly what it's like, about 15 years of the same fake arguments about it between the Landlords in the Dail without any change of the situation except that rent and house prices have increased.
100% Except it's more like 40 years. They all know how to actually fix it. Because it's not a crisis - it's a structural permanent feature of how housing works in this country - and is *supposed to work.
Even the shinners walked away from wealth taxes that are part of the start of fixing this

She was in the Progressive Democratic Party formed in the early 80's, as you may remember or not depending on your age.
Micheal McDoughall was also in that Party which was formed to represent the well off.
They merged with Fianna Fail to form a Government and Mary Harney was also Tanaiste.
Later on in the early 2000's Micheal McDoughall became a member of the toxic Renua Party which was again for the rich so never trust him.

I have not once ever heard of any politician calling out the property agencies real estate agencies who are as well the very ones who are driving up the rental prices with their 500% to a 1000 handling fees which the tenants have to pay for the landlord
Local Gov must build houses like they did years ago. Keep private construction companies out of the market to build on public lands. The current Government hasn't got the skillset to do what is needed. Public meeting in Portlaoise on 11th July. Let's see if Independent Ireland are a real alternative to the current jokers.

Some basic questions. 1. Why is it ok for a single person to object to any new development for bs reasons, e.g. blocking of view etc? The more vague and preposterous the objection the better it seems. This makes any development extremely hard to complete 2) Why are high rise residential apartments non existant? If rhe floors don't rise, rents won't fall. 3) why look to the national government to build local homes? County councils build 10s of thousands of low income homes in the 70s. Why not now?
If immigration was zero, there would still be a shortage. Stop falling for the trap of blaming foreigners, Brussels, the UN etc. The problwm is right under your nose. Irish ppl who own their own homes, 60% of the population, are the real blocking factor. They are terrified of repeating 2009 to 2012. Their fear is natural. The answer is new towns. Dozens of rhem. Build new dwellings by the thousand, and don't spook your neighbors' terror of reduced property values.

@@Ryzanu according to their math - yes. Numbers don’t lie. When I was making 400 euro a week a decade ago I paid 400 a month for a 4 bed in my local area. It’s not inflation it’s greedy government.

Over 400 million budget for IPAS centres this year. Mary Lou is like a fake opposition no one mentions the route of the problem for fear of being called a racist. If the government breaks laws, bends policies and brands Ireland as a hot spot for economic migrants, you are left with lots of problems like this.

If you truly want to reduce house prices, you'll need to reduce property rights, target satellite towns and build rail into Dublin.
This will take the buying of a lot of private land from homeowners, everybody is for housing to be built until it affects them and any government that does this will be voted out into the void. Vulture funds are an issue for sure but, private land for ordinary people, a lack of builders and the affordability issues caused by Brexit and the Ukrainian war are no small thing to contend with. If you want to tackle housing, you need a four year plan - because you won't get voted back in, to pass a constitutional referendum to reeuce property rights and a rapid rail line built to two veelry large satellite towns populated with a higher than normal amount of garda to prevent them becoming ghettoised.
