If u didn't like it, they wouldn't perform. When you're in the entertainment industry people will cheat you all the time.... even those employing you. In fact, esp those employing you. Steve O'Rourke (who managed Pink Floyd until his 2003 death and the solo careers of David Gilmour, Nick Mason and the late Rick Wright) gets an honorable mention. Steve was one that EMI and Columbia feared (Columbia called Steve at 4 AM UK time whining about the Wish You Were Here sleeve and was told to jump off a bridge) and while not violent, he was more clever in getting record executives to do what the band wanted like buying them watches so they wouldn't be late for artist/label meetings. Also made sure the band wasn't shafted financially and ordered a helicopter to fly over Soldier Field to take a picture for when Pink Floyd played to 90,000 instead of the 60,000 and the band was shafted for the extra 30,000 who crashed the concert. Steve was also (like Nick Mason and to a lesser extent, David Gilmour) an auto racing enthusiast,
      Peter and Steve were two managers neither promoters nor record companies messed with.

      I don't imagine Peter really believed he was in league with the bootleggers, that was just his style; keep right on top of 'em and don't give 'em an inch! It all went a bit pear-shaped when he brought Bindon onto the team though, as he himself said, that was his worst ever decision. Peter could be (almost) as brutal as Bindon, but he was considerably more discreet when it came to the "gloves off" stuff" - check out the story of the record label boss who put out a Zep single against their will - it's real Godfather horse's head in a bed stuff!

    Unfortunately these days artists don't have someone that cares so much for them like he did for Zeppelin. Yes he could be a massive asshole and pain in the ass when he was fighting for his artist but he was also a very nice man. A lot of the stuff connected to him about losing his temper and screaming at people a lot of that came because he suffered from chronic back pain. It didn't help his mood any know that.

    As hard as it is to earn a living as a professional musician, a band or solo act needs every dollar it can get, no matter what their level of fame, or lack thereof. Led Zep was very fortunate to have Peter Grant to do the dirty, but necessary work.

    The best way to put Peter Grant in context is this : In early 1969 Peter Grant demanded (and got) $5000:00 for one nights
    performance by Led Zeppelin. Four years LATER in 1972, The Who were paid £400:00 for their slot at the Isle of White
    festival. That tells you ALL you need to know about what this man did for his act.

    Also if ya dig and enjoyed this video Peter Grant 😀 you may also enjoy the song " Most of All " By Glenn Kaiser and Where Roses Grow Live by Rez Band Awesome songs check them out. I remember hearing the song by Led Zepp " In My Time of Dyin " during my drug years and made me think about death and Jesus. Then a hippy friend that dug Jesus told me more of Jesus love and forgiveness and how I could also know Jesus love. So in 1981 I cried out to Jesus and wow man He came into my life and I had and have so much joy and peace and now know that through Jesus when I die I will be with Him in Heaven. Hey Jesus loves each of you also and yall can know Him if you are at all open. Just cry out to Him and a good question to ask yourself if you were to die today would you go to heaven ? And if yes why ? To find out more please read the Gospel of John in the Bible or check out the movie on TH-cam. 😀

    Whole Lotta Love and Babe, I'm Gonna Leave You are the only songs in which the legal owners were known (afterwards), and were compensated. On the other hand, Zeppelin was sued by the publishing company after trying to ensure that Ritchie Valens' mother received royalties for "Boogie With Stu," which is a reworking of Valens' "Ooh My Head." They listed the four members of Zeppelin and "Mrs. Valens" in the credits, only to be sued by the publishing company. What you haven't said is...

    Jimmy alined everything to be great for zeppelin

    • @danielstoddart
      @danielstoddart 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Led Zeppelin's success was really Jimmy + Peter Grant. Jimmy carefully planned and conceived the band to be a tight 4-man unit with no replaceable parts that focussed on live performance and selling out lots of big shows themselves, refusing to be an opening act from the beginning. Grant was the muscle behind their favourable fees, recording contract, and merchandise deals.
      People think of Jimmy Page as this wildman electric guitarist with the air of a gentleman, but underneath that vibe he's actually a very shrewd businessman.
