How fantastic would a Gotham City version of this set look! They could have a small GCPD building, a small Wayne Tower and some other grey and dark buildings with a vault for someone like Catwoman to steel from and perhaps underneath some kind of sewer system, and of course keeping the railway system in there. That would really work as a bigger Batman set.
The thing I like most is that they've made a fun looking, less rigid type of modular that will appeal to fans of all ages, not just people who appreciate period correct LEGO interpretations of architecture, purely for the aesthetic
Hey Jang I’ve been watching since I was 5 and I’m 12 now. I like your detailed reviews you leave on your videos instead of the ones that are mainly for a child’s understanding. I hope the best for you and to stay safe
As the biggest Lego Time Cruisers Fan, i gotta say that the fact that Lego remade 2 of the Time Cruisers robots in this set is one of the coolest things that Lego has done in years !
Come on lego, just give us a stand alone mini modular series. This set is pretty good. I'm not dropping $150 but I would love some of these shops in sets by themselves.
I absolutely love how this set is OOZING with gorgeous vibrant colors!! 😆💕 The lego store build might be my favorite part, along with the lovely looking Chang’e billboard! The rest of the stickers and brick built signs are super cute too, and hey that Hero Factory reference 👀 (I finally got my hands on Ninjago City Gardens, but I definitely need to save up again to get this set, as well as I feel like they’ll pair pretty cool looking together!)
Absolutely they need to create a line of compatible mini-modular buildings so that we can have more play possibilities. I was wondering if the Friends modulars could go together with this as well.
This looks like a nice alternative for the bigger more expensive Ninjago city sets. Especially thee fact that you can easely expand it without needing a lot of parts makes this set even better to me! Very nice review, thx Jang!
I’m gonna be “ignoring all the video and be sure to say” that the sticker on top floor (15:33) is applied up-side-down. The calligraphic character in the corner, in bold black, is supposed to be the same character as what’s on the front-facing window, which means ‘lotus’, and left side of the sticker is just a painting of lotus itself. But of course what I really am doing is finding a reason to leave a comment. Just want to say is thanks Jang, for the make of the whole video, (the rice noodle part is a gem), and the whole channel in that regard, really helpful with my addiction lol.
Hey, I recognize those heads on the robits at 23:06. Those heads are from the Creator 3-in-1 Cyber Drone. It’s a good head for different robots in any environment.
Finally, have been waiting for this review since the set came out. I really like the set. I think for the price point it is one of the best sets Lego has done in a while. Let's hope they release an add-on to this.
I don’t think I’ve ever heard such happiness in Jang’s voice! I got this set as well and can’t wait to build it. I’m happy to see that it was Jang approved.
What a cool city! I would love to see that idea of 8x8's, 8x16's and so on being a new system! They have a lot of charm And it'd be nice to have shelf towns and what not!
I’m not sure how this one flew by my radar, it looks like an absolute blast and has incredible visual interest. Looks like I’ll be picking this one up eventually, fantastic review as always!
You suggested having a smaller modular standard of eight bricks deep with connectors at five and six as in this set. Earlier I had purchased two each of the Townhouse Toy Store and Townhouse Pet Shop & Cafe. These are Creator 3 in 1 sets. I made two options for each and they are twelve bricks deep with connectors at six and seven. With a few minor additions (e.g., public restroom), they connected into a nice short city block. It is probably possible to use both these standards together with simple transitions to make a nice very eclectic city block. If I can find a long enough space, I may try that. I enjoy your videos.
I've been looking forward to this review. I'm still waiting for mine (two month backorder!) but at the price point I'm already seriously considering ordering a second to expand it and integrate the previous Monkie Kid buildings and some of my own. This has much of the vibrant appeal of the Ninjago City sets, but at a fraction of the price. And Ninjago City doesn't have a 'monorail'!
At 2:25, based on the picture of which i believe it is Tripitaka and the Queen of the Women’s Kingdom, the song that the minifigures can sing is called Maiden’s Love, you can search for it on TH-cam, it’s a very beautiful song! Such a great reference!
17:43 would love to see this system next to the shops from the big monkey king mech and demon bulldozer from wave 1- anyone still have those assembled??
I suspect the designers might have something else planned with this set. The modular feature is cool but you can't really re-arrange them. This and the added track piece (although they suggest getting another), it would be ideal if they made another set styled like this, to add on and expand, which also had a small part of the mono-rail which could still be connected too.
Liked it when it revealed, loved once you reviewed. May have to consider buying it. Wonderful modular building, i totally agree with you, they must deploy a system and stick with it. This 8 wide Technic pinned system is perfect. You've sold me!
This is easily my favorite set of 2022. I enjoyed every MK set this year, but this one is so much fun. I agree with the want for more buildings in the system! I might start making my own, and I bet they would play nice with the new road system too (with a little customization) for a small scale city. 😁 Thanks as always Jang! Great video
If LEGO does continue to give us more of these I hope they don’t only make it so we can connect all the little buildings, I hope they also provide a way to extend the little train..
I got this set as soon as it came out and it’s great! My only issue as has been mentioned is the design flaw that the staircase to the second level is built into one of the shops, so that has to be on the lower right side to work well. The staircase should have been separate. The only other two story build other than the noodle shop is the Lotus hotel, and the roof decorations interfere with that serving as the sidewalk of the top level. So why every modular shop is theoretically interchangeable you get very few rearrangements that look good.
I was hoping for a set that was closer in style to the Ninjago modular sets (i.e. more detailed and with backing walls), but this set still looks excellent, and is the reason I finally took an interest in Monkie Kid as a product range.
I think this system you were advocating for around the 17:00 mark is already happening. Other civilian buildings in Monkie Kid are built similar with the 8-stud with and pin connectors, so it's kinda been a thing. Just a matter of it spreading into themes, that still needs to happen.
Was first excited about this to build and expand into my Ninjago City and Chinese New Year sets for my growing 'Chinatown' city block. Yet then as I consider this for fitting on a 32^2 baseplate to integrate with them- not so sure it's really gonna work well. Maybe I'm fortunate this hasn't been in stock and easy to find so far this year so I can ponder it a bit more, and see first what other collectors may do with it.
Very cool set. Totally agree would love to see them expand on this with 10-25 dollar diff modular buildings you could add and every 1-2 years come out with another like “base set” so you can mix and match your buildings. Those of us who don’t have the room for a giant lego city would love to have something like this with diff options to swap buildings
Very helpful review. I always love the look of Monkey Kid sets, but I’m just getting back into LEGO and haven’t been able to justify spending so much when there are other amazing sets out there. This looks like one I could splurge on and one my daughter would enjoy as a play set.
Thank you for this very through review. When this was announced I thought it would be one of those sets that should cost about $180 that they would sell for $200. When I saw it was only $150 was was worried I had misinterpreted it, but after watching your review, I think it's better than I expected overall. I'm definitely going to have to pick this one up.
What a great set! Loved it when I saw it for the first time, and your review only confirms that. The one thing don't like are the stickers, at least some of those should have been prints. But other than that, there's just not much to complain about. Hopefully they will do more with the modular system, it would be so cool to even expand upon this.
I totally agree that Lego needs to make a mini modular line in every theme. It would definitely do extremely well! It would appeal to every collector. A Star Wars collector might not be into city modulars, but mini versions of Star Wars buildings....Wow!!! They would also be in that gift price range for kids. Plus 1 set might look small, but once everyone starts adding to their city, they will not want to stop. If they added a cool exclusive figure into each set, double wow! Lego needs to do this now! Thanks for all your great videos!
I think that LEGO should do a series called mini-modules, where this type of system is used would be fantastic for people who want a city, but don’t want to commit to the high price of the creator ones
This is a stunning set for the price ... I love how it can be changed, connected etc. with other building builds from the Monkey Kid line ... too bad most of the other building builds are also associated with costly sets (the big mech etc.). I wish there was more of this type of set, including at lower prices (say €40 - no vehicles and mechs added in!) ... I love the styling, as I do that of the Ninjago building builds. Anyway ... my only other wish is that it would be easier to get in stores ...
This set is something I wanted from City. I wanted a bunch of small buildings that can be stacked and rearranged. Kinda weird that the exact thing I wanted actually came out and it’s a surprise to be sure, but a welcome one.
What a play set!! Would be great for those who couldn’t afford Ninjago City or docks. Even better for those who have them, add this on for a bigger city 👍👍
I feel that they missed a bet with that largely unused rear lower area. It reminds me of the old days when they would put one or two big rocks into a design which created a cave space, then put nothing in that space. It felt like over time they learned not to do that - even a few small parts can make such areas much more interesting - but the lesson seems to have been lost again. For example, maybe they could have an indication of an entrance into a storm drain system - perhaps something built by the ancients and long since forgotten by most. There could also be indications of inhabitants down there - though forgotten by most the system is not uninhabited ... Perhaps there is a group of Teenage Mutant Kung-Fu [1] Animals [2] that live and train down there, characters who will eventually come forth and aid the Monkey Kid in some future episode. They might be peering through a window or gate from the storm drain system out into the city. [1] - Insert Kung-Fu style of choice. [2] - Insert animal name of choice. Or instead of a storm drain system, you could have a magical gate to somewhere else, with something peering out of it - yet another forgotten legacy of the past. Or perhaps there is an underground river running under the city, and a young river dragon is peering out of a grate to the river into the city, curious about the Monkey Kid - or perhaps assigned as a hidden guardian - another character just hinted at for now, but one that will eventually play a bigger role in the story ... Or maybe something else more in tune with Chinese mythology and legend, I'm sure many people are far more qualified than I to come up with ideas along those lines. One or two stickers or printed pieces, placed discretely with a few more parts, could make that lower back section of the design a much more interesting area. It might be as simple as a picture of a gate or door, with something peering out of it - and a few other parts to help a sense of location. Kids playing with the set could then build on that suggestion as they develop their role-playing scenarios.
Once again, although the individual details aren't all great to me, Monkie Kid proves to have great ideas going for it that should be used more across all of Lego. Or put it this way, imagine any of the old classic themes that had large playsets using this level of playability and interactive elements. Imagine a factory, mine, or even something like a hospital using small modular components like this.
Are those semi-arches which are on top of the columns a new colour (grey) for that piece (i know them from Harry Potter in tan) for the first time? Great set, thanks for the review! I want to buy it, and (in europe) for that price i am not going to wine too much on the price, i still think Lego costs 25% too much overall. I just won't be having the budget with all the other good stuff they have brought out, which i want even more then this.

GOD YES
Man. The Monkie Kid line never seems to disappoint. These sets are all so cool. I should buy more of them.
The thing I like most is that they've made a fun looking, less rigid type of modular that will appeal to fans of all ages, not just people who appreciate period correct LEGO interpretations of architecture, purely for the aesthetic
Ninjago city, gardens and this all together r awesome. Lego needs to make a Starwars set of Corascant, the City planet
That could be so so cool. They have so much charm in these lil 8x8 builds, and i would love to see what they put into a start wars version!
omg that would be so good
Wouldn't work. Star wars is an established franchise, what would it include?
I would Love a Corascant set. Bring back Jedi Bob for it
@@gonkdroid9325 Dexter's 1950s inspired diner, of course.

Ok. The modularity is outright brilliant.
Quite possibly my favorite set of the year so far.

This is charming as heck! Love all the old references and details!
This seems like a much, much better deal than a single ATAT.
Star Wars tax!

Awesome Reviews Jang!!. Keep up the good work, you are an asset to Lego builders!

Definitely now catching the two stickers at 13:21, both little hints at the 90th anniversary sets! Love that

Thanks as always Jang! Great video
That little LEGO store is amazing! And always love to see a little Bionicle reference
Man, who else has been watching Jang all the way back when he just ran a Hero Factory channel.
I just finished this build. It's excellent. A fun build, a great value, and a lot of visual and kinetic interest. Jang's review is great!!
If LEGO does continue to give us more of these I hope they don’t only make it so we can connect all the little buildings, I hope they also provide a way to extend the little train..
Crazy, Colourful and busy. That's the kind of city I wanted as. Kid
I would love to see JANG do the Monkie Kid Flower Mountain set!
I got this set as soon as it came out and it’s great! My only issue as has been mentioned is the design flaw that the staircase to the second level is built into one of the shops, so that has to be on the lower right side to work well. Omg. I just realized that the monkey kid mech, comes with a little restaurant that also has the technic pins. You could add it in!
Amazing review as always. The wall with classic LEGO sets hit me right in the feels. Just fantastic.
I was hoping for a set that was closer in style to the Ninjago modular sets (i.e. more detailed and with backing walls), but this set still looks excellent, and is the reason I finally took an interest in Monkie Kid as a product range.
21:00 that space is precious.

Between this, that friends big set, and the new modular Harry Potter sets, I see this modularity becoming a thing, and I absolutely love it

So tempted to get this set. So much stuff for the price especially today.
I really like the budget Ninjago city vibe this gives off, this was the first set I picked up this year
This is on my wanted list. We need more strip mall builds in LEGO sets
13:55 PARADISA POOLSIDE PARADISE REFERENCE YES!!!!!
I love this set!!! It inspired me to MOC it into a expention for my Ninjago district
Very cool set. Totally agree would love to see them expand on this with 10-25 dollar diff modular buildings you could add and every 1-2 years come out with another like “base set” so you can mix and match your buildings. This is an absolutely gorgeous colorful and playful set
Very helpful review. I always love the look of Monkey Kid sets, but I’m just getting back into LEGO and haven’t been able to justify spending so much when there are other amazing sets out there. This looks like one I could splurge on and one my daughter would enjoy as a play set.
that lego store piece is AWESOME
I am so glad they paid tribute to Bionicle and Hero Factory in this set.
This was a fun build and it looks nice with the Ninjago City & Gardens. Between the this and the moon base there are some great sets in this line
This looks like a really good set with its price!
Thank you for this very through review. When this was announced I thought it would be one of those sets that should cost about $180 that they would sell for $200. That's a really nice Lego stickers set, with very few lego pieces fortunately!!! 😁
The sign for the restaurant says "Fo Yim Shan" which is a reference to "The Journey To The West".
Didn’t expect hero factory reference
I got this waiting to be built, just gotta decorate this room first...aaahhh!
Dude! "Old Classic Space Set". Were they actually hinting at the 10497 that was released only a few months later? And the castle sticker?
Surprised they didn't throw some beatbits into the singing booth.
couldn't agree more with u, excellent review jang! 👍🏻
Wow a sticker with the galaxy explorer
I wonder how it would look with no stickers.
And now I'm planning on combining this with Lego Ninjago City and Ninjago City gardens for an enormous sprawling cityscape
Can you review red sons inferno jet next
What a play set!! Would be great for those who couldn’t afford Ninjago City or docks. Even better for those who have them, add this on for a bigger city 👍👍

I want this set so bad! Hopefully I can get my hands on one. One of my lego stores stopped carrying Monkey Kid sets =(
Legos website just sent me a notice about 20 mins ago that these are back in stock on their website. And, because of the price, shipping is free
When, they first introduced monkie kid, I wasn't very interested. But then I bought the monkey king mech and I really enjoyed it.
i think it can connect to the "new" Harry poter hogwart´s sets and the friemds 41704. they are also modular buildings
I noticed you use the actual LEGO color titles, can I ask where you get that list from? Thanks so much!
HF and Bionicle referenced…wow
Yoo the sanctum set could connect to this. It has the pin holes in the same spot, and it’s on the same depth of plate as this set.
This set is awesome. too bad its delay at stores, cant find any lol
Lotus Hotel? Percy Jackson mocs incoming!
Once again, although the individual details aren't all great to me, Monkie Kid proves to have great ideas going for it that should be used more across all of Lego. This would go perfectly with the Ninjago city kits. And with the Cyberpunk city you have going on :-)
The kareoke bar reminds me of the one in qongqing, in hitman 3
Are those semi-arches which are on top of the columns a new colour (grey) for that piece (i know them from Harry Potter in tan) for the first time?
Great set, thanks for the review! I want to buy it, and (in europe) for that price i am not going to wine too much on the price, i still think Lego costs 25% too much overall.
I just won't be having the budget with all the other good stuff they have brought out, which i want even more then this.
what is the action figure logo above Hero Factory? I don't recognize it.
Um, actually......you're right. This is very cool indeed
i'd love to buy that set so much, but every time i check on the lego webpage its sold out :(
Budget Ninjago City Gardens? I'd take it I guess ^^
you're the best, thanks!!
Can you pls do a customization video on how to connect to the ninjago city? I’ll receive this set next week
I see a hero logo cool I love hero factory and a bionical logo i think also cool
