    I think Lego could do some add-on modules that work with many sets. One that comes to mind is an elevator system with a few different hight pieces included and maybe a couple of theme plates so it can be adapted to a hospital/police station/apartment house etc.

      I get the impression that thats going to be the future of lego city. Seems like a clever way to keep doing yearly hospitals, police stations, fire brigades etc without having them feel redundant. I'd love to see expansions for the 2022 sets

    That childs play area is brilliant, overall I think they should have separated out the helicopter into it's own $10 set and either include more hospital or reduce the price.

    • @dgray3771
      @dgray3771 2 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      They should have made a separate helipad set with a helicopter. Make it with road plates and the pad in the same colour scheme as the hospital. Many hospitals around the world have a surface helipad instead of a roof one. That way it would make a nice addon set for the hospital. And you could have a bigger chopper.

    • @xeron_7433
      @xeron_7433 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      It's basically a requirement for Lego to include a helicopter in all of the public service headquarter buildings :P

    • @beingisbewildering
      @beingisbewildering 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Always with the helicopters! Maybe it's just because most hospitals in the UK don't have helipads as we've got less than 50 emergency air ambulances for the whole country, but I'm a bit perplexed on Lego's insistence that every hospital must have a helicopter of some sort. Especially when there's a separate helicopter ambulance set in the range this year. With those pieces we could have had another bed in the hospital or a consultation room.

    I'd have to say that the previous City version is much better than this one as it felt far more complete, with less things feeling missed or forgotten. This version's just kinda okay, but I do dig the unique architecture and layout of the building!

  • @tallmantoo
    @tallmantoo 2 ปีที่แล้ว +32

    Think they should have omitted the chopper. Make the helipad accommodate the larger copter. Use the extras parts for the hospital or ambulance. Just a thought.

    I'm underwhelmed by the hospital (especially its sad incompatibility with the larger air-ambulance helicopter), but it's hard to represent a whole metropolitan full-service hospital in what, four rooms? I think L&D and Radiology are probably the most kid-friendly units they could have included, at least on the surface level, but I'm always a little disappointed if they don't have an ER/A&E.
    I think that the ambulance finally does me proud, at least as a side-build. I'd love to see a more dedicated EMS set, but that doesn't seem to sell so I doubt we'll see one anytime soon. Seeing a pickup-chassis "Type-1" ambulance made it feel a little less euro-centric than some of their previous iterations and more at-home in my neck of the woods, even with the violently lime green and teal colors that reminds me of my old Rural/Metro Ambulance livery. That (oddly exterior-mounted) bag-valve mask was immediately recognizable, and a clever touch! I like when my minifig colleagues get to hold something other than a syringe to look like they're actually medical personnel. Can't really cram more equipment, a full crew, or realistic layout in a six-wide vehicle, so I think they've done well in approximating the aesthetic.
    (Also, the Star of Life is uniquely an *emergency* medical services emblem, so why is it on this hospital that has no ER? I guess I need to let my imagination stretch a bit more, or let go of some workplace pet peeves. At least they didn't put the Star on only the hospital, and a Caduceus on the Ambulance/Helo...)

    What i remember loving back in the 80s and i see my little daughter also when she gets her hands on some car models is constantly opening and closing
    doors, putting stuff in, getting it out.
    I find it such a pitty, that he otherwise grat looking car, has no doors at all. LEGO in general seems to abandon the concept of doors more and more sadly :(
    Great review Jang! Thanks!

    Really digging the colours for this set, maybe a little overkill on the neon ambulance, but the ambulance I quite like in shaping. Would be nice if they sold this kind of ambulance as a stand-alone. All the medical minifigures I really like as well, including the patient figure.

    Great review of this set. I think the Euro price fits for what you get here. Combining this with the previous set might get you a more complete hospital. Personally I would love Lego to split the hospital, firestation and police station into modular sections, each focusing on a specific aspect of the theme. Combining several sections will give you a complete building

    I am a massive fan of the 60204 City Hospital from 2018 and to me that was the pinnacle of LEGO health services. This one looks very good as well, but I'd really have to look at them side by side to choose the winner. As you say - it's all about the little things.

    Does anyone know what Lego's strategy for City will be going forward? They used to spread out the rereleases of bigger buildings over a few years but now they seemingly released new ones all at once. Does that mean the original sub themes like police, fire department etc will be less separated in the future?

    There's something just off about lego city sets recently. Some of them seem like they had a great build then stripped it down to be as profitable as possible. Between that and the color scheme of friends there are so many great sets I would love to do some things with but may as well start from scratch considering what comes in the box. SO close to being perfect that it ends up being disappointing.

Lego also gives you the possibility to modify these sets in your own way.

    I got reasonably lucky buying this set. Barely out and suddenly Amazon AU puts a 30% discount on it bringing it down to the equivalent of just under $79USD ($111AUD) and even a small free gift with purchase! Score! I think I might end up using it in combination with 60204 which also has very similar predominantly white with red highlights. Could attach the back of this to the kiosk end of that one with minimal modification and would make for a model with much greater depth and some interesting shaping. Could add a ton of extra floor space between.

  • @martino087
    @martino087 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    As a former medical imaging technician, I for one welcome the “MRI” scanner. But apart from that, this hospital set is disappointing to me and inferior to the previous version, which didn’t excite me much as well, but at least had more diversity. There’s only 2 medical related rooms in this set, the whole lower floor feels like a waste of space to me. I’m missing an OR/ER, a bigger (ICU) ward, an examination room or perhaps a small lab or staff break room. I do like the general design of the building with the “overhanging” floor though (although the random chairs on the roof seem a bit odd).

    • @martino087
      @martino087 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dmonsef I think you could do it in a regular city set as wel. The previous city hospital and the friends hospital from 2017 had more diverse detail, and not every function needs a fully decked out room (ER+OR, Lab+MRI can be the combined, etc.). Don’t need a modular sized building for that.

    It's amazing to me that LEGO just completely dropped the modular aspects of the set. I still think I like the last one better. Just looks more 'real' to me, the helicopter actually holds a patient. At least LEGO didn't cheap out on minifigures. Some of the new hair pieces are stunning.

    I concur that it would have better off without the helicopter. With the larger one available, we do not need the tiny one. The minifigs are excellent in this, probably the biggest strength of the set. I have the other recent hospital and might consider combining it with this one if I feel like ultimately buying this. Putting both hospitals together might be interesting, although there will be some clash with the color schemes, especially with the vehicles. Agree with Jang that this looks like it should be around $100.

  • @dgray3771

    I finally went ahead and got this set. 68 euros it cost me. Which is a great price for the set. And for that money, you get your worth of stuff absolutely. Still I got some qualms about the set. Integrating it in a lego city with the road plate system is a chore with this one. You actually need to get a road plate set just to do that. Because of that sidepiece "children's play room" Because it is in the way of anything going past it. You need at least half a plate to clear it. Then the other side is really weird with the half-plate width ramp. That would just come out on another road alongside the set if anything.
    I feel this set will always be in the rear of any city. I'll have to look into it more to see how it could get a more prominent place. Because you can't do much but keep it in the back, or else you end up with lots of empty room around it if you want to build around it.

    Not bad but the set is missing a few essential areas that I know I would've wanted to play with as a kid... #1. There's an emergency room waiting area but no emergency room!! Not even a bay for a bed or two. #2. A more generic hospital room. As Jang said, we have the maternity room and that could certainly be customized but it would have been nice to have had a generic room with a bed or two in it. #3. This may not have to have been a whole room, but an x-ray machine would have been fun! #4. Okay! This is the most important one... No operating room...?!? An OR would have been great and fun! A nice set but missing a couple of essentials for me.

    It's okay, although I would prefer if it was built to allow several sets to combine together, creating a bigger hospital. Similar to how the Heartlake High School and Spider-Man Ultimate Bridge Battle sets were designed.

    Some kids could get a lot of play out of the set. Thanks, Jang:)

    Maybe there’s no railing on the roof so the hospital can get more patients

    Is the older male doctor Minifigure the same one used as the veterinarian in the corner garage set??

    Seeing teal green parts again gives me hope for rock raiders revival(that will never happen).

    If Lego could have got a hospital out in the previous 2 years it would have sold so well given current events.
