- Note: The 4th track not responding was because it hadn't been mapped going out the way and I would like to update the steps here:
Step 1: manually assign the midi channel and cc number in loopy pro fader/gadget as shown in the video.
Step 2: Now you can use the midi-learn function in loopy pro to complete the 2 way midi control.
This video is the final video in my workflow series. We look at how to set up and iPad to process audio and set up bi-directional midi control in a custom control surface designed using Loopy Pro.

Great stuff. Always fun to use iPad with gear.
Just wish AUM would do external midi clock. I use the DT2 with AUM and a a virus snow for synth duties. AUM for effects. DT2 powered by powerbank using bird cord. Works great. Snow uses another bank with ripcord. Faderfox UC4 runs off same bank. Play in a field. Just add speakers.
@@johncarter2741 your setup sounds amazing! How you liking the mk2 Digitakt? AUM can do external clock via ableton link so here I can send clock from the Syntakt to audiobus 3, then ableton link it out to AUM. It’s a bit hacky but it works well with no noticeable latency. Portable setups are the best in my opinion and it’s crazy how long you can run these devices for from power banks.
@@streetdoghanoi love the dt2. Best thing. 8 gorgeous bars. 128 step heaven. Hey I’ll have to try midi to audiobus then Ableton. Yeah I like to write sat on sofa. Gear is all in guitar pedal case on lap. It’s more informal rather than being stuck at a damn desk.
@@johncarter2741 yeah I write better when I’m not feeling like I’m in some kind of day at the office mode. Each day I grab a piece of gear and throw it in a backpack then jam in a cafe ok my lunch break. I get a lot of good ideas from those sessions.
@@streetdoghanoi TH-cam just recommended me your videos so here I am! I just launched a TH-cam Channel where I specifically focus on using a custom iPad Pro based music production setup with AUM and the elektron Digitakt and Digitone. My latest video titled: "iPad Pro Custom Music Production Setup Review & Guide (with AUM + Elektron Digitakt & Digitone)" might be interesting for both of you. For John specifically, you might want to look into using Audiobus in parallel with AUM as Audiobus supports receiving MIDI clock. I haven't tested it though as I rely on Ableton Link.
I also forgot to say, if you're limited on time, you can always watch it one chapter at a time or at whatever pace you prefer as the video is structured very thoroughly with available timestamps. As far as the Octatrack, it's not a class compliant audio interface so it wouldn't work with the iPad like the Syntakt, Digitakt and Digitone would. For the Octatrack you would need a separate dedicated USB audio interface entirely, or route the Octatrack into another elektron machine, whether it's the ST, DT, or the DN and use one of these 3 as your class compliant audio interface, but honestly at that point it might be worth it to have a dedicated audio interface entirely.
Fyi you dont need Birdchord. Any Aliexpress DC To Type C USB PD will be ok. I got the Birdchord for over 20 euros onluy to realize itself is some Aliexpress thing. Got a few more from Aliexpress for 2.5 eur each. Birdchord just puts a sticker, a nice bag and charges around 700% or such higher...
@@gorbzzz True that others will work but I don’t like the risk factor in getting something more generic. I dunno, these devices aren’t cheap so I don’t grudge the 20usd for some peace of mind and let’s be honest, that felt pouch is really nice.
@@streetdoghanoi No risk. Where do you think this guy sources his cables from? All that matters is that it is 12V (not more!) and with enough current to draw! My tube amp electrician was laughing at the cost Birdchord charges for an ali express cable...
