In this video we show you how to braid the long mane and the forelock. A simple and easy way to make that long mane look absolutely stunning! Have fun practicing!
Omg your horse stands decently still when you do this! Mine won’t stop looking around and I’m stuck struggling to keep her from pulling the mane out of my hands 😂
Amber Arras when I have to do manes alone and I usually do, I use a hay bag or net to keep them Moderately still and at my level, Could try that if you haven’t found something as of yet, cheers
I love this braid I try to you a different braid every time I go to a horse show the judges loved this one I got first place in grooming and conditioning
i have tons of horses (well they’re my barn owners but no one rides them so i take care of all them) and i enjoy braiding their names and tails but i fail drastically at braiding the main not so much the tail-
Rylan Austin I have a western pleasure horse and his mane is past the bottom of his neck and I don’t exactly know why I signed him up for show jumping in 4H
What a beautiful and well behaved horse he is. Looking forward to trying this on my AMHAs! I have only ever done the ones going downwards before, but this is much nicer
You can also use it with black electric tape. Rubber bands can tear the hair if you leave it in for a long time. Black electric tape doesn't tear the hair, doesn't leave a resudue unlike scotch tape, and is black so it still looks professional.
Great but hard to follow cause my horses mane is on the other side of the neck. I tried it and it's tricky. I'll need more practice. Can you show it on the other side of the neck?
This horse ist absolutely beautiful and the braids are so neat...my Lusitano has a super thick mane. Every braid I tried didn't last longer than five minutes 😕
This mane is to die for! My baroque pinto has friesian, crinkly hair. Can I achieve this result with a bit of water on his mane? Or will that destroy everything?
Do you have any recommendations for my horse? She has very long thin hair and her forelock mane is VERY thin and is only like 7strands of mane. I love to do her mane (it helps her because she does not like it wen people touch her) but I don’t know if this will work on her... and recommendation????????
This does not look easy to me! But I am so motivated to try this on my new lusitanoX! His mane is crazy! (Do you clip the part of the mane that would otherwise be under the saddle pad?) Thank you so much for this great video!
Hi, I have an Andalusian with a very long mane, however it looks short and messy at the withers and on the bridle path. Your Lusitano looks perfect. Have the withers and bridle path been clipped?
Barons wife here/ I tried to braid my mini. My problem with the first time braiding was his mane being so thick. This style looks like it will work better than my first go. Your horse is beautiful!!! Love the braid style here!!!
I know this is a year late, but a tip for minis is to split the mane in two right down the middle. And then do a running braid on each side. Kinda like pigtails.
I still have a cramp in my hand , I feel it... beautiful horse . Is it better for the hair to be loose in their face ..I see a lot of horses this way, I wonder if it bothers them the way it bothers me??
I'll try! They are so beautiful and comfortable! but then I think I have difficulty with normal ones.. He does not stay still even if I beg him.. I'm going to cry in a corner bye T_T
Everyone in the comments is worried about her pulling the hair too hard. Guys horses dont have a lot of nerves in the mane. They can barely feel it. Plus if it hurts then they will 100% let you know. I'm more worried about the fact that she says she uses sugar water to make the hair sticky. I feel like that can be irritating to the skin and it will definitely attract insects.
Omg your horse stands decently still when you do this! Mine won’t stop looking around and I’m stuck struggling to keep her from pulling the mane out of my hands 😂
Somebody's holding the horse Still!
Antonia Praefectus omg I’m dying 🤣😅🤣😂👌
Amber Arras when I have to do manes alone and I usually do, I use a hay bag or net to keep them
Moderately still and at my level,
Could try that if you haven’t found something as of yet, cheers
PONY CAM if she braid daily I’d imagine it’s routine and cross ties do help a lot if you have them, I just stuff a hay bag/net
In front of mine 😝
My loan pony won’t stand still for that long unless he’s got a hay net and you can imagine how that goes, his whole neck shakes 💀😂
i don’t even have a horse. i have a chihuahua. why am i here.
Bry Schubert same🤣🤣🤣
braid him too!!
Yah same. I have a cat and if I try to braid her hair then I'm going to get scars from her claws
lol
I have a cat lol
“Under braid” it’s just a Dutch braid on a horse. Sooo beautiful!!
The irony of it all is that she sounds like she's dutch
that comment went from salty to sweet
That’s the best mane and tail I’ve literally ever seen, so thick and full.😭❤️
Last time I did braids on my horse they looked like 5 yr old did it lol
Story of my life right here
same!! i cant do anything but a regular braid on my mare to save my life and i cant braid my own hair at all oof
@Maira M You are not alone. I tried my best & it still looked ridiculous.
What an awesome patient horse! I think he enjoys your touch.
I love this braid I try to you a different braid every time I go to a horse show the judges loved this one I got first place in grooming and conditioning
good job!
Thats so cool. congrats!
i'm soo going to try this on my haffie! i usually do normal plats just to keep his mane tidy but this is gorgeous!
You did a good job and most people should be able to do this because this is originally called the under hand braid
Very pretty braids! The Lusitano is definitely my dream horse. Very beautiful and good work
You are wearing a hook bracelet from my island of St. Croix! I came for the braid but stayed because of the bracelet. lol
I went there some years ago. It changed my entire life around. I am so missing STX and will come back for sure... Lifechanging place to be
Oh... I got the bracelet in 2009, and only had it off 2-3 times for MRI and airport security (Until I found out it won't beep if I keep it open ;) )
Stunning horse and so quiet and patient! I see why you chose him for this tutorial! Great tutorial too. Thanks!
that mane looks so smooth and shiny!!
I can braid pretty well, but everytime I braid close to the neck my horse can't stretch his neck anymore. Anyone with the same problem?
Myrine De Waard that’s probably because you put the braid too tight maybe try doing it looser and not braiding your horses withers.
you actually aren't supposed to braid that tight it's bad for the main and the horses neck...
every few french braids, don’t add more hair for a couple folds and then resume french braiding. this allows more movement :)
I love that the dog is just chilling in the bg lol
They call it a running braid but it soo likes like one beautiful mane corn roll. Gorgeous bred
Why was this in my recommendations 😂😂
Why wouldn’t it be in your recommendations 😀
Charlotte Ella cause it’s random and useless for me, no hate on the video cause it’s kinda cool but like I said it’s random and useless for me.
xxaye_ Kylax haha I was just being sarcastic.
TH-cam knows you need horses in your life.
i have tons of horses (well they’re my barn owners but no one rides them so i take care of all them) and i enjoy braiding their names and tails but i fail drastically at braiding the main not so much the tail-
I have a horse that has SUPER LONG MANE!
Rylan Austin I have a western pleasure horse and his mane is past the bottom of his neck and I don’t exactly know why I signed him up for show jumping in 4H
Beautiful and very clear. The horse has these funny black tips on it's ears
literally your braids are soooo pretty and even and omg that was so satisfiying to watch lol
What a beautiful and well behaved horse he is. Looking forward to trying this on my AMHAs! I have only ever done the ones going downwards before, but this is much nicer
Video on Braid on both sides of neck and tail braid please! Very helpful tutorial so nice to have the other two instructional. Thanks so much!
That is one gorgeous horse❤️❤️😍😍😍

Beautiful horse! xoxo
Vitorino is the most beautiful horse I've ever seen!
i needed this thank u ❤️
Stunning horse 😍
thank you big help!
What a handsome horse 😍
Really awesome braiding like pigtails
Wow you braid so beautifully. My horse has a very thick mane that is hard to braid as the little hairs stick out all over the place!
My cobs mane is so long and thick whenever I do this it falls out I’ll have to practice before the show this Sunday ! 😂
Can you please do a video on how to clip bridle path, ears and withers? Great video!
OH MY GOD I LOVE HORSES THAT ARE THAT COLOR!!!!😍😍😍
lovely hair setting
THANKS FOR THE HELP
My granny has a pony that my little cousin rides and her name is flicker... she’s adorable and her withers are just above my belly button
Waw Such a shiny mane !
That is too cute omggg
great work!
Thank you so much :D
Beautiful horse looks like spirit
True
OMG It's Spirit!
Matilde Mar OMG! xD
Matilde Mar Spirit is a buckskin, this horse was not a buckskin...
Rylan Austin This is buckskin. Which colour do you think this horse is?
Myrine Gitta it is not Spirit because it does not have the dorsal stripe on its back
@@rylanaustin8837 Omg chillax its just a dorsal stripe big deal
So beautiful 👍👍👍
This was so hard to do and I couldn’t do it for my last competition! :( Also my horse just wasn’t having it, lol.
Nice work
I don't even have a horse LMAO but i love your videos
It looks so easy when you or other people do this.. I will definitely have to find some time to practice, because every time I try, it goes wrong 🙈
You have a beautiful horse
I've seen this video a hundred times and I only noticed these people were Portuguese too now. ;-; olaa!

Lavyn O you can just mirror the video
Lavyn O just search up a running braid and just make sure it’s tight to the neck it’s not that hard lol
Un utente di Google you can’t really force a mane to go to the other side lol.
With the forelock I always do it slightly looser then thread the plait back up through the braid and tuck it in x
This is a Dutch braid!
So? on a portugese horse, goes with the portuguese style. There's not much dutch about a dutch braid. I'm dutch.
Not everyone calls it that though.
Proper name is under braid.
I thought it was a cornroll
Sigrid van Osch does it matter if your dutch?
Started with RDR2 Videos and now im here
it still confuzzles me how do u do the braid I cant see
First time ive seen someone use this word in a long time.
This horse ist absolutely beautiful and the braids are so neat...my Lusitano has a super thick mane. Every braid I tried didn't last longer than five minutes 😕
My horses mane is a little bit shorter than this horses mane. Do you think it will still work and not fall out?
I never thought that I'd look up mane braiding tutorial someday, I don't even have a pet
This mane is to die for! My baroque pinto has friesian, crinkly hair. Can I achieve this result with a bit of water on his mane? Or will that destroy everything?

Just leave it loose, it can double as a oh crap handle when riding bareback 😂
do it have to be tight?
Amezing
Hi, I have an Andalusian with a very long mane, however it looks short and messy at the withers and on the bridle path. Your Lusitano looks perfect. Have the withers and bridle path been clipped?
Horse is sooooooooo cute
A serieus question. Why do you braide the hair? Whats the function of it? Because it looks beautifull or because its good for the horse?
Yasmina she states in the video it’s to keep the mane as healthy as possible, it stops snagging and breakage under their bridle when being ridden.
can someone let me know if this is just like an invert/Dutch lace braid ??
yeah its just a dutch braid
To anyone who says “THAT LOOKS TOO TIGHT! YOULL HURT IT! 😭😭😭😭😭😭” just shut up and do research. Horses don’t have feeling in their mane.
If it's too tight the horse can't move it's neck properly.
👍👍👍

Beautiful braid, but does this hurt the horses neck when the braid is so tight? I feel for the horse.
I still have a cramp in my hand , I feel it... beautiful horse . Is it better for the hair to be loose in their face ..I see a lot of horses this way, I wonder if it bothers them the way it bothers me??
Omg I wanna braid horse hair oml
you say that until you actually try
good nice
^_^
Nadja is a beautiful woman!
Is this braid permitted for shows?
Yes, I have competed CDN GP level with this exact braid :)
Wouldn't sugar attract bugs?
Could u use this in a hunter jumper show?
Bryn Bologna I don’t think so but there is a way to do the standard hunter braids with a long mane
No, you can’t. For the hunter ring you need small button braids that are tight on the horses neck.
I'll try! They are so beautiful and comfortable!
but then I think
I have difficulty with normal ones..
He does not stay still even if I beg him..
I'm going to cry in a corner bye T_T
I cut bangs on a camp houres before
Omg that horse stays so still the horse that I work with doesn’t stay still she never got worked with as much until I started working with her
I wish if my horse could stay so still 😀 It is beautiful but my horse is so courious, he can ´t miss anything all around…

Where after?
Yeah it's easy....now teach me patience for braiding my 4 year olds mane...
What happened to the tail braid?
I know... It will come! Sorry for not doing what I said - minor accident kept me away! and then... I completely forgot about my promise!!
Omg i can never keep my horse still he always moves his head and pulling from.the haynet
Can you do a Mohawk next time.
