  • This video is a tutorial on “How to Scallop Braid a Long Mane”. This could also be known as button braids, dressage braids, or Dutch style braids. This technique is great for those with baroque breeds, Friesians, or any horse who is kept with a natural, long mane and you're looking for an alternative to the traditional running braid. Please let me know if you have any questions, otherwise stay tuned here for more tutorials! Thanks for watching! www.DonadtDressage.com

    A nice neat and pretty braid that's much easier than the running French braid. Especially for left handers. Thanks. I'll be doing this braid on my Arabian mare for our upcoming show as it's too long and thick for rosettes.

    I used to do a running braid for my Friesians but my new Lusitano's mane is really too thick for that. I tried this the other day and love it!! It was easy to do and I think it will work for our first upcoming dressage show. Will practice a few more times before the show but I think this is a winner. Thanks

    How do you do a long forelock in a show braid? My friesians forelock is halfway down his face.

    How do you get them to stay in? Is there more to it? (Do you need to stitch the rosettes in or something?) I trialed this on my horse and it looked really nice until he gave his head a big shake and because they're not tight, all the braids moved around getting bigger or smaller making it look messy.

    Wie lange halten die Zöpfe, bzw. Entsteht Spannung auf der Mähne, wenn sie den Hals senken?
    Ich freue mich auf eine Antwort 😊.

    Can you do this with a shooter main? Or does not t have to be longer?

    • @ashleydonadt3539
      @ashleydonadt3539  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The mane just has to be long enough to pull through each braid and continue into the next braid.. but this look is based off of "Dutch dressage braids", which are for shorter manes. They just don't have the strand of hair that connects between each braid. Hope that helps!

      @@ashleydonadt3539 Thank you! I love this braid so much and would like to try it at my next show on my tbh but he has short main at the moment.

    How long can you leave that in for? Does it pull or bug them when they put their head down to eat or drink?

    • @ashleydonadt3539
      @ashleydonadt3539  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      This look is mostly for show riding, so I don't think these would last very long.. I braid like this just before a competition ride, and take them out shortly after. But they're loose enough the horse can still lower their head to eat, drink, and lower the neck for the free walk. But depending on how tight the base of the braid is, they may pull through when they lower their head, and any excessive head shaking may cause them to come undone as well.

      @@ashleydonadt3539 Thanks for your reply! I don't have a horse, but volunteer at a rescue. I feel bad for one of our guys. He has the most beautiful, thick and long mane, but he get's so sweaty under there. I braid and clean his neck whenever I go, but it takes so long I was looking for more options. I don't think I would try this on him since I don't see him everyday, but I love how this looks. Thanks for your video!
