My grandma, for which I probably would have been eight years old at the time, loved to go to the drive-in theaters and we would go quite often to see whatever the latest films were that released. One weekend, Friday the 13th was one of those films. I’ve been noticed to her, because I don’t think she knew what we were about to see. When the movie started and after that opening sequence, my grandma flipped out over what she was seeing. Though, being the person she is/ was, we ended up staying because I was amazed at what I was seeing and was drawn to it. She sat for the rest of the film with her hands over her eyes. A testament as to how far she would go to make her grandson happy. I think about that a lot every time I see the first movie and subsequent releases. Because if not for her, I may have not been introduced to the franchise and love it so much. Such great times and great memories. Thanks for helping to bring some of those memories back.

Part 3 was the first of this series I watched myself as a kid so it will always hold a soft spot in my heart. As I got older my friend and me would watch it and laugh at how goofy it was and still laugh thinking about it. One of our favorite scenes was when the biker girl is swinging out of the barn window and the guy below tells her to get down, then when he looks up and realizes she is gone he is so confused. It’s like maybe she listened and got down to help you 😂. In fact during this video I messaged my buddy and he sent the clip of the biker getting impaled and we had to laugh that he had to check his back to make sure the spikes went all the way through! Good times indeed! I know I’m late to watching this but I can’t wait to watch the rest!
I’m so happy you made this. Been waiting for a Friday the 13 series. I’m both a fan of Halloween and Friday the 13 movies. I grew up mostly with Friday the 13 movies plus I live 30 minutes away from the camp site of the first Friday movie. Keep doing what you doing 👍
Betsy Palmer died in 2015. She initially regretted her choice to appear in Friday the 13th and Part II, but she later learned to appreciate the movie and the fans. She even attended fan conventions later in her life.
I was a kid in the early 80s. The rental boom just got rolling. If you watched any of these, you were King Badass of the schoolyard for the day. If you are a fan of the series, the Crystal Lake Memories book is a MUST. It leaves no stone unturned.
You do so well at these retrospectives. I know how hard this is to put together. It's brilliant work. I'm a Halloween fan personally, Friday the 13th wasn't made as well as well as the first Halloween or put together with as much care. I can recognize it's importance in the horror world though. Jason is still a legend.
Great vid! Hearing “there’s some else in the room” was the exact same line that scared me shitless watching this on USA “up all night” when I was like 7 years old. Even nowadays it still makes my rectum pucker so hard it’s on the verge of prolapse.
It should be pointed out that Part 2 took place at the Packanack Lodge, while Part 3 took place at Higgans' Haven, a family farm billed as being on the opposite side of Camp Crystal Lake.
Dude, it would be awesome to have a beer with you. I was born in 87. I feel like we had very similar childhoods. When you talk about the video store at the beginning of your video. That really hit home. Keep up the good work dude.
@@thomasffrench3639jaws has nothing to do with slashers and Pyscho didn’t have a masked killer. Michael started the masked mute killer trope with a knife which Jason copied and made less scary.

My fascination with the Friday films started when i was six years old. That was when Friday the 13th premiered on HBO in 1981. My older siblings invited their friends over and the next thing I knew my living room was full of scared teenagers watching the movie thru their fingers as I cowered on top of the stairs listening to their screams and rejoicing in their laughter. My folks thought i was too young to partake in the festivities. They were probably right. I mean, after the film ended, my sister was going to a sleep over at her friend's house across the street. Her and her friend were so scared that the friend called her mom to turn the porch light on and wait at the door for them to arrive!!
@616Entertainment You realize most of us here are fans so we don't think any of it sucks, right? And here you are a dick to viewers. Not cool, man. Wtf I was gonna subscribe because you cover horror, but you just talk and present yourself like a total a-hole. You cover this series but don't even approach it with any love at all.
40:08 why would Higgins Haven, a private family home that just happens to be somewhere near Camp Crystal Lake, be an active crime scene? Nothing had happened there at this point.
They were very close to each other and a dozen people were murdered with no suspects in custody. You think they’d be like “well he wouldn’t go over there, don’t worry about it” ?? lol
@@616Entertainment Not really. We don't know exactly how close they were to each other, just that they were both close to the same body of water. Could have been 10-20 miles for all we know. Also, news didn't travel as quickly before the internet, and they drove for an unknown amount of time or distance to get there. There's a very good chance the group wouldn't have known anything happened. But either way, the house would not be an active crime scene like the video stated.

Did you see it in 3D? Prob not. the 3D was actually good and people watch these movies for kills. Not Shakespearean dialogue or anything else. If you do come for that then, your watching the wrong movie. Part3 is on of my favs. Maybe because its the first one i saw in theaters at age 10. But it served its purpose.
I finally got to see it in 3D a few years ago when they released the box set with all the movies. I enjoyed finally being able to see it the way it was meant to be but damn, it's hard on the eyes. I could only watch for about 15-20 minutes before I had to take a break because of eye strain.
I'm not sure if anyone else feels this way but F13 is a comfort series for me. Everytime I binge them I am extremely happy. Don't get me wrong Halloween is goated, but the F13 sequels are so much better. Also thank you Ian for this, cannot wait to hear your thoughts on the rest of the franchise; part 2 - 5 are probably my favorites in the franchise though. I really enjoy how creepy sack jason is in P2, and the mask consistency is wild too after p3 unlike Halloween.
Hell yeah this makes me feel how I felt first stumbling onto your channel watching MK and Halloween. Thank you bro I’m going through a lot in life so I appreciate this ❤
I saw a documentary of the movie Franchise, where Paramount Pictures was actually embarrassed by the movie series ( but not the money it was earning them) and eventually sold the rights to New Line Cinema.
51:46: "Why do kids move so slow when they're upset?" - Seriously, lady. You're in the sights of an unhinged killer! "That's a hint and a half for your ass!"
What made Friday The 13th, the first one, such a classic as it is, is that it was just like a story you'd tell around a campfire to scare people or kids. You know, '...and the boy is still out there avenging his mother's death as she did for him.' type of scare the campers before going to sleep. So Jason coming out of the water as well as Alice saying the boy is still out there all ends the campfire story. Also one thing I always found great is how Jason's mom walks just like he does the next few movies.
Regardless of Part 3's uninteresting characters, bad acting and goofy 3D shots (such as the sticks and yo yo), the movie built to a great climax (other than the actual ending). But what makes this movie great and my favorite, next to Part 2, was seeing it at the theater in the Summer of 1982. Richard Brooker was awesome, there was tension during the chase, the kills were great and though the 3D could have been much better, it was still fun on the big screen. And let's not forget the Red Wings hockey mask.
Absolutely loved this video Ian, fucking outstanding work and a genuinely funny, in-depth and informative narrative too! Your talent for this is next level my man. Nice work 👊👍🤘😎
Found your channel by accident. Glad I did! Great job, very entertaining. I’m older, so got to see all of these in theaters when they were released. Well not all, after Pt. 5 I was done spending theater money on them 😂. The original and part 2 were my most memorable. Part 2 is probably my favorite. I was 14 and between that and Halloween 2 it was a great time to be young and see these with other screaming kids. I will say the ad campaign for 3 was crazy. Stupid movie but watching in 3D was fun.
Hey Ian I really enjoyed your part 1 of this Friday the 13th retrospective series 👍🏻 I pretty much agreed with you the entire video about the first 3 movies. Cool kills by Jason but a rinse and repeat of same story if you can call it that 😂 can’t wait for the next episode. The Jarvis trilogy is a lot better in my opinion.
Dreams really do come true. Ive rewatched History of Halloween dozens of times. But the friday series has always been my fave. So seeing Ian finally covering it is absolutely fucking amazing!!
This is one i've been waiting for. I have memories of attending the Summer Camp in Blairstown, NJ where they filmed the first one. The town does screening events there along with a tour and a lot of it looks exactly the same for the most part.
I enjoyed your video. But I will say Friday part 3 is one of my favorites. Yes Im aware of all the idiocy involved but I saw this movie when it was released and it scared me to death as a kid. You're right about nostalgia. I did learn a few new things tho and I compliment you on that. I didn't think there was anything I didn't know already. Am looking forward to your next video now!
God-yes! Then Nightmare AFTER?! I’m stoked for the next four years it’ll take to make all these retrospectives. Jesus Christ. I’m so damn stoked. Now I’m also bummed because I’m seeing part 1 right after release and know I’m waiting forever. Gaahhh!
I didnt know that much about Halloween and became a fan AFTER watching the whole of a history of. This time, i got agead of the game and watched all of the friday the 13th films. Love your work
If no one mentioned it, the lens likely wasn't filthy in part 3. The dirt probably came from the amount of processing the film had to go through for the 3D process and having to check 2 gates for every take rather than 1.
No idea. I announced it in October of 2023 and have been talking about it since. 8 months of hype and some of you don't even know it existed, lol. Gotta love it.
I'm not going to lie, I've been waiting for this for what feels like forever. Your insight and retrospective on Halloween were fantastic. This was no different. The history of the franchise is something fierce. Reading the book, Crystal Lake's memories solidified that claim for sure. I've always been a huge fan of the genre. Truth be told, my mom was a huge fan of the genre and would go on to name her only child, Jason. Why, you may ask? I was born on Friday the 13th, and that was her favorite series. I could only guess that was the reason, but it would be revealed when I was 25. She finally spilled the beans confirmed it. She may not be with me anymore as she passed away in 2020 but I'll always feel her presence. Thank you for bringing in some much needed memories as I'm going through losses in my life. Great job with the vid ☝️🙌✨️🎃
I had an obsession with horror films ever since I was as young as six. I would sneak video tapes that I had borrowed from older kid and watch them while my parents slept. The first one was Evil Dead when I was that six year old. The next that would make an impact was Friday the 13th. I still love horror, my favorite genre in just about everything from videogames to movies. I couldn't stand Gene after his tirade about Betsy Palmer being in the film and hearing about him giving out her addresses. The guy had no business doing that and thank goodness it was the wrong address. People even back then could go overboard with threats so he was definitely in the wrong. Great video as always and looking forward to the others.
I was one of those that saw it at the drive ins. My mom was a huge fan of horror films. I was 8. The movie obviously scared the shit out of me. After that it was a continuous watch on HBO the whole series. Saw almost all of them at the theaters. Only the first two I saw at the drive ins. It was such a treat to go to the drive ins then. Playgrounds, fresh popcorn, man the memories.

I know. I believe I show footage of her at a convention.
I love how he found a way to diss on Halloween 5 even in this video lol. Hatred runs deep. 😂😂
I will never get over it.
@@616Entertainment I know I share your hatred ✊🏻
Great video man. Loved everything even though it was blurred and best hour of my night 🌙 😌
I was a kid in the early 80s. The rental boom just got rolling. If you watched any of these, you were King Badass of the schoolyard for the day. If you are a fan of the series, the Crystal Lake Memories book is a MUST. It leaves no stone unturned.
Yep
You do so well at these retrospectives. I know how hard this is to put together. It's brilliant work.
I'm a Halloween fan personally, Friday the 13th wasn't made as well as well as the first Halloween or put together with as much care. I can recognize it's importance in the horror world though. Jason is still a legend.
Great vid! Hearing “there’s some else in the room” was the exact same line that scared me shitless watching this on USA “up all night” when I was like 7 years old. Even nowadays it still makes my rectum pucker so hard it’s on the verge of prolapse.
Been waiting for this! Soon as the England game finishes I’m gonna kick back and enjoy 🍿thank you 616
Thanks for watching!
I forget who said it but I heard a quote that said Sean Cunningham never had an original idea that somebody else didn't come up with first
Hahahaha
Someone once said there is nothing new under the sun. Shrug
You deserve way more subscribers. Been here since the beginning and hoping the best for you!
It should be pointed out that Part 2 took place at the Packanack Lodge, while Part 3 took place at Higgans' Haven, a family farm billed as being on the opposite side of Camp Crystal Lake.
Yea, I made sure to mention they weren't walking the same exact paths.
I really enjoyed history of Halloween. Looking forward to this. Let's be fair. Jason doesn't exist without Michael Myers
You’ll see I cover this in great detail.
Dude, it would be awesome to have a beer with you. I was born in 87. I feel like we had very similar childhoods. When you talk about the video store at the beginning of your video. That really hit home. Keep up the good work dude.
Michael myers doesnt exist without leatherface 😂@@weapon877
I’m straight edge, so you drink the beer, I’ll have a Pepsi. Hahahaha
@@thomasffrench3639jaws has nothing to do with slashers and Pyscho didn’t have a masked killer. Michael started the masked mute killer trope with a knife which Jason copied and made less scary.
Ian you are awesome! Friday The 13th is my favorite franchise with Superman and Pokemon a close second and third. Keep up the amazing work and the big guy in the hockey mask, his mother and all those campers and counselors agree! Kikiki mamama!
Enjoy it!
@@616Entertainment ty man I am and will :)
I have been waiting for this thank you so much I loved the Halloween series I know I will love this too!
Hell yea! Thanks for watching.
Muffin was the mastermind behind everything.
Her and her friend were so scared that the friend called her mom to turn the porch light on and wait at the door for them to arrive!!
i’m high, and PUMPED for this video and next ones of this series 👍🏼👍🏼😂
What the hell are you high on?? 🤔🤨🧐
Hell yea!
Come on dude, thanks to part 3 we got the hockey mask
So what? The movie sucks. I'm not reviewing fashion pickups!
@616Entertainment You realize most of us here are fans so we don't think any of it sucks, right?
And here you are a dick to viewers. Not cool, man. Wtf
I was gonna subscribe because you cover horror, but you just talk and present yourself like a total a-hole.
The whole franchise has flaws, from conception to the present time, and not every film is a banger... but we love them and hold them in high regards. You cover this series but don't even approach it with any love at all.
@@616Entertainment part 3 is awesome but opinions are like puckered assholes i suppose. great video as always
@@Therevdon You're putting much more thought into this than the writer and director, which is also a problem. lol
@@616Entertainment You made a video complaining almost nonstop about the movie. No big deal, everybody is entitled to their own opinion. All I did was point out that one of the complaints was unjustified because it was completely untrue. I didn't really put any thought into until you tried to argue about a made-up story.
@@Therevdon Sure thing, dude.
Having rewatched this series, i love how much you talk about the costume work and lost footage
Ive been waiting for you to cover this series since the very beginning!
Friday pt. 2 is the first horror movie I ever watched, way back in 1986. Ive been a huge fan ever since... And it pains me that we may never again get a main line sequel, set in the original timeline/canon.
The game was (and still is) a dream come true.
At least well always have that and the classic films!
Very well done and comprehensive retrospective, Ian. Can't wait for the next installment.
Tom Savini... a "legend"?
Nah...
Tom Savini is a GOD AMONGST MEN!
Savini's the man, no doubt.
Another absolutel banger. I've watched it 5 times already. I LOVE these history of videos. And this one was even more amazing bc I could hear Patches behind your commentary every now and then. Absolutely hilarious and made the show better.
That's Panda talking in the background! I'm sorry to have to let you know but I guess you didn't see back in October, Patch has retired. He's got his feet kicked up on the beach in the sky, sippin' on some juice.
@@616Entertainment I'm so sorry Ian. I watch you almost everyday and I'm not sure how I missed that. My deepest condolences to you. I will raise my glass now and pour some out for an absolute legend
The legend!
I'm stoked to see this! Love your intro....now im doing the first three....
Enjoy!
YESSSSSS I was waiting for this. Thank you guys
No guys, just me. One man crew, hahaha. Thanks for watching.

Loved the history of Halloween and resident evil. Can't wait for more of these. Excellent work!
Thanks man!
Been watching since your start, finally had to subscribe to that patreon Dan Dan. The uncensored version of the video is amazing! The gore the merrier. Keep up the great work Ian, you are truly a gem of a content creator and definitely bring me back to the good ole days. Here is to many many more videos and good times. Cheers!
Hell yea dude, greatly appreciated. Thanks for the support!
I'm so glad you've worked your way around to Friday the 13th. I quite enjoy your perspective on all of the franchises you've covered so far and am looking forward to these.
Hope you enjoy them, thanks for watching!

Great job!
Dude the full movie version of this series is out now, if you've got 4.5 hours, give it a go. Thanks for being here!
@616Entertainment I have since binged all 5 parts of this History of F13. Excellent work. I laughed, I cried (at things I liked that you didn't), I learned alot of crazy behind the scenes stuff I never knew...I understood all the wrestling references you made. A true Rollercoaster of a Retrospective!
Keep up the good work.
So there's a uncut version of part 3 that make the gore from the film look like Disney friendly in comparison lol
That's not what I've heard. Where'd you hear this?
52:06 Stopping for the sip of a drink mid sob was glorious 😂
Yeah TH-cam jabronis
Super excited to watch this and you didn’t disappoint
Thanks for watching, my dude
Was waiting at the edge of my seat
Very humorous. Got a kick out of this video. Keep up the great work.
I'm a Halloween > Friday guy, but I love them both!
There you go buddy! F13 is great but Halloween is the jam
Love the video man! Long time fan, especially with Mortal Kombat and Resident Evil! Keep it up and ill keep watching!
Hell yeah this makes me feel how I felt first stumbling onto your channel watching MK and Halloween. Thank you bro I’m going through a lot in life so I appreciate this ❤
Hell yea dude. Thanks for sticking around all this time.
Michael Myers is my favorite killer of all time.Friday the 13th part 3 is a classic favorite of the series.
Michael's my #1 as well.
I saw a documentary of the movie Franchise, where Paramount Pictures was actually embarrassed by the movie series ( but not the money it was earning them) and eventually sold the rights to New Line Cinema.
We'll get there.
every saturday as a kid down the video store for 2 videos just the joy of looking at the box covers i found hypnotic
Love these movies, with part 3 being my favorite.
Another great restrospective from 616Entertainment.
Thanks man, more to come!
I’m with you big time on Richard Brooker. One of the best Jasons ever.
0:18 I wonder if Michael took a shower before putting on the grey coveralls in H6
Definitely not. Stinky.
I'm a huge Friday the 13th franchise fan as well as Halloween. This video was very well researched and a joy to watch
Great video and story off this movies, subscribed😀🇧🇻
Part 6 is my favorite movie and a awesome soundtrack like part 3😍
Dude hell yea. I did a whole series on Halloween as well, hope you check that out and enjoy!
@@616Entertainment Next on my list!
Dude the same thing over and over for sure. In Part IV there's literally still ZERO plot.
Dreams really do come true. Ive rewatched History of Halloween dozens of times. But the friday series has always been my fave. So seeing Ian finally covering it is absolutely fucking amazing!!

Dude, I love your content. I thought I was subbed for a long time, but I wasn't. I quickly corrected that!
Thank you! I appreciate you sticking around.
This is one i've been waiting for. I have memories of attending the Summer Camp in Blairstown, NJ where they filmed the first one. The town does screening events there along with a tour and a lot of it looks exactly the same for the most part.

Lets go!!! Now Friday is getting a retrospective like halloween!!!
Yeeeessssir.
Top quality content! Been waiting for this since the last Halloween video!

Love the ones you love! Dude I hate a bunch of these, love a bunch of these, it’s the same as Halloween. You do you, brudda.
God-yes! Then Nightmare AFTER?! I’m stoked for the next four years it’ll take to make all these retrospectives. Jesus Christ. I’m so damn stoked.
Now I’m also bummed because I’m seeing part 1 right after release and know I’m waiting forever. Gaahhh!
No plans for The History of Nightmare On Elm Street, but that's not to say it won't happen. Just not currently in the works. We'll see.

I didnt know that much about Halloween and became a fan AFTER watching the whole of a history of. This time, i got agead of the game and watched all of the friday the 13th films. Love your work
I love that!
If no one mentioned it, the lens likely wasn't filthy in part 3. The dirt probably came from the amount of processing the film had to go through for the 3D process and having to check 2 gates for every take rather than 1.
How’d I miss this series was going on. 616 docs are great
Great job with the vid
☝️🙌✨️🎃
Thanks brudda, glad you enjoyed it. RIP to your mom, sounds like she was a true legend.
Great deep dive, but all that Castlevania music made me kept mind scripting "Belmont vs Jason" more than once. :p
Another great vid man! Looking forward to part 2!
Soon!
Yea, that was a bozo move worthy of being fired.
Wow, nearly a hour, I can’t imagine how long this took to make, great content ❤
