Looks like they are the top spec ones with the air suspension and the selectable rear difflock. For a car aimed at road use you cannot complain about its offroad performance can you? sure your "Modded Jeep" would do a lot of this in this video without breaking sweat - but its not gonna drive home as nice is it?
@bajabeetle center locking diff between front and rear and optional rear locking diff, both proportionally controllable by the driver, neat tech, more for flat road and trail, think high speed off road goodness. but these vids just show its at least capable
While someone said a VW is never seen out in the hills/Mountains of MOAB, though I've never been there, I don't think it's ALL because the car would brake (I doubt that anyway), I just think it's because the type of owner of said VW Touareg...just isn't the type of person who would want to go out in the desert. These types of tests however, just go to show potential owners that "hey..this SUV CAN do much more then you'd ever think of doing now"
(Part 1) IMHO, it seems that Moab is starting to become the Nurburgring for off-road testing. While I liked this particular body style for the VW Touareg, I'm sorry to see VW redesign the model line and drop the V8. Although, w/much of the world hoping on the "Going Green" issue and reducing our Carbon Footprint, I can see why a lot of car makers (not all though) are going w/more potent V6's VS V8's....
guys, i like this video, but i read the comments and no one has mentioned toyota landcruiser!!! i've seen it's performance in desert actually it's tremendous! i don't know about rocky roads but in desert and fine sand it's like floating, i tried in safaris in dubai twice, it's like the official 4 wheel vehicle for safari! and the ironic thing that i saw one hummer H2 stuck in sand while we r climbing up and down the sand dunes, what do u think guys about landcruiser?
I got all that mentioned things in my passenger car where they make sense to me, my 4x4 is just for wheeling. If i could just afford to have one car, maybe i would think about buying a SUV some fine day, for now the 2WD Car and the 4x4 suit my desires.
i like the touareg as well, but according to comsumer guide magizine it gets 12mpg city and 17 highway, while the range rover gets 12 city and 18 high way on both the supercharged, and non-supercharged version, but i supose that just another reson to upgrade to the v10 tdi version which gets better gas mileage and alot more tourqe.Plus i was in a hummer h2 and id say theres alot of fun to be had in them,we test drove one and probably did some things we shouldn't have!!
this reminds me of our last trip to badlands, my cousins girlfriend took out her 2004 explorer and cried when she hit some dirt with her running boards lol
That is taste question. I would also go much rather for RR. Touareg is like lifted VW Passat Wagon, with V10 diesel. VW thought that their Touareg would be very well selling car, because it had lot's of power, and decent 4wd system. In reality, people wanted the robust looks and everything else of normal style SUV, This is why Touareg was much less success than they planned. Still pretty interesting car anyway.
@danielalien This comment is 6 months old. Anyway, not mad at all. I'm not sure why you commented. I didn't compare it to a jeep, or anything else. I commented on the fact that there driving on flat surfaces. It's the same as going up a steep road.
two words, lincoln locker... no fancy hi-tech computer actuated breaking system... the only electronics i need are ignition and a starter solenoid... at least thats how we do it where im from, alot cheaper too!
Not really, almost ALL of the higher end SUVs can do this now days. It's because they all have a traction control system that applies the brakes to transfer power. This sort of makes up for the lousy independent suspension (lousy at low speeds that is) and zero travel. It's almost like having a locker in the front and rear (ALMOST).
@sjuggalo seriously dude hummer power with out hummer price i have the 5.7 and its a monster white smokes in 4 high then climbs mountains gotta love it
whilst im impressed with the touareg, its really only the "locker" style offroading that gets it places. if only all factory 4x4's came with lockers (electronic or pneumatic) we never would have had opposite rooster tails or the common rabbit hole issues.
In Germany, where i am from, they are way overpriced and mainly used by moms to drop the kids off at the kindergarten or school. Well i got a 1970s 4x4 and i wouldnt trade it for a Touareg....to each his own. ;-)
You're the one that replied to my comment for no reason in the first place. Now you're calling me a smart ass, when all I'm doing is replying to your comments that hold no weight.
why would u use a crappy crv for 4wding? the only cars worth using for offroading should have solid axles front and rear. not crappy independent suspension
@Cnupoc check this video out (couldn't post the link but just copy the following and paste it in the search bar): Hummer H2 & Touareg in Milovice military/tank training area, CZ, part 1 of 2, Full HD
hahaha 17:45 that lady is like "that was so good" like its a little boy learning to pee standing up. at 9:00 is that about an inch of articulation? sweeet.
Yes, I drove a Touareg V10. And I thought I was in a Golf. It's a street car with 4wd, not an offroader. Maybe it's a street car with a strong engine but its not for REAL offroad. I've seen enough Tuaregs fail under offroad conditions so I know what I am talking about. Go and drive some real offroader in difficult terrain and you will notice the difference. And dont always trust the pretty commercials. They try just to build an cool image arround this car.
I drive a lot so my 2WD is a Diesel that just needs 1 1/4 Gallon of Diesel per 60 miles, impossible with any 4x4. A SUV wouldnt suit my 4x4 needs in any way, i do wheeling for 30 years now and still like to know the limits of it. Been to Moab, Rubicon and other hardcore 4x4 places to learn them. SUVs are no bad cars but they aint real sportscars and they aint real 4x4s. Dont take that personal, its just cars!!
Comparable to any other passenger vehicle designed for off-roading? Please educate the world on what because obviously you know far more than facts, statistics and reality.
that is pretty much driving on rough dirt tracks, im talking bout 4wding, driving up mountains going places that dont involve a shopping centre car park
we saw the toureg guy in moab on the poison spider trail we had to help him get up this one part it was pretty funny if u see this toureg guy we were driving a red jeep cj5 on poison spider
dude, your totaly wrong. do you know about Paris Dakar, WRC? all of these high performance things use racing suspention. stir axles is no racing suspention, in no way. i would never buy a car with stir axles, even if it's a vw. it's SUV, not a offroad vihicle, like a the humvee, the original landrover defender. the german army uses the mercedes G. die hard ofroaders with stir axles have to prepare their suspention, too prevent the springs off falling from the vihicle.
@nielslernou I dont think you have been in a new jeep Have 5.7 GC 2011 .And gonaa buy used v10 vw touareg because used one lost 80% of value so ithat will be my scrap car vw $25000 and jeep was $100000
2 inches of articulation they must have sent an advance team to figure out the best and easiest path for this grocery getter gay gay the grand cherokee would make this toureg look stupid for half the price but it does have a loud horn useful around town
I prefer these old Touaregs before restyling. They have nice, friendly facial expressions :)
This is not a car , this is a MONSTER!!!!
I must say that I am impressed at the way the stability controls acts to basically create lockers.
Wow these are amazing offroad. Selling my 08 Wrangler for one of these.
this thing made jeepers around there another good day.
touareg is amazing! i love it! great video! 5/5!
Looks like they are the top spec ones with the air suspension and the selectable rear difflock.

sure your "Modded Jeep" would do a lot of this in this video without breaking sweat - but its not gonna drive home as nice is it?
wow, VW is making a name for itself in the off-road industry, damn
I'm glad you understand. Explaining the specs to me wouldn't make the Tuareg any better of a off-road vehicle.
@bajabeetle center locking diff between front and rear and optional rear locking diff, both proportionally controllable by the driver, neat tech, more for flat road and trail, think high speed off road goodness. but these vids just show its at least capable
great cars, value for money, experienced driver in silver vw, well done
What an awesome video... I'm doubtful VW AG would do anything like this these days...
That horn at the end scared the bejesus out of me!!! LMAO!!!!

at 17:00 is the supreme test for off-road vehicle!
(Part 1) IMHO, it seems that Moab is starting to become the Nurburgring for off-road testing. the jaguar of suv's? what exactly does that mean, it brakes down all the time?
Beautiful are the tire marks left as trails over the rocks...
and what kind of suv/truck do u have that can flex
with the 4WD system it has it doesnt spin the unloaded tire like most other systems, so it can get away with less flex.
Not bad. This would be a great promo vid. Does it come with lockers?

everyone should remeber these arent legit drivers or anything there just press members and magazine writers just checking out the new car
what part was Lion's back????
the plane got stuck?
@TheSaltySea Yeah, that's why the Easter JEEP safari takes place at Moab every year.
i like the touareg as well, but according to comsumer guide magizine it gets 12mpg city and 17 highway, while the range rover gets 12 city and 18 high way on both the supercharged, and non-supercharged version, but i supose that just another reson to upgrade to the v10 tdi version which gets better gas mileage and alot more tourqe.Plus i was in a hummer h2 and id say theres alot of fun to be had in them,we test drove one and probably did some things we shouldn't have!!

what I want to know is how they got an 18 minute video on you tube. They limit mine to 10
@Left4Dead3232 You're just mad because a huge german family car with no mods can do what your jeep needed to be customized to do.
@nielslernou I wouldn't say scrap, but those Touaregs are amazing, indeed my friend. That V-10 makes me exuberant every time I hear one. :D
4x4 for little boy! The true, the Best is the Land Rover Defender, legendary offroading vehicle...
nope. this is real footage of Touareg
Why would you use a Touareg for 4wding?
though the gas milage on the Touareg v8 is pretty much the same, the purpose of the range rover is the kinda be the jaguar of suvs.
Wow.. Never knew a VW could do all that
two words, lincoln locker... no fancy hi-tech computer actuated breaking system... the only electronics i need are ignition and a starter solenoid... at least thats how we do it where im from, alot cheaper too!

yep.. sure... german machines are perfect. to land onto this airport might be difficult :-) congratulation on this :-))))
whilst im impressed with the touareg, its really only the "locker" style offroading that gets it places.
if only all factory 4x4's came with lockers (electronic or pneumatic) we never would have had opposite rooster tails or the common rabbit hole issues.
even the h1 hummer has independant... and so does alot of the tatra 8x8s...
I was waiting for the vw touareg to pull the plane out lol
In Germany, where i am from, they are way overpriced and mainly used by moms to drop the kids off at the kindergarten or school. Well i got a 1970s 4x4 and i wouldnt trade it for a Touareg....to each his own. ;-)
africa?
You're the one that replied to my comment for no reason in the first place. Now you're calling me a smart ass, when all I'm doing is replying to your comments that hold no weight.
i gave you finger up on this one :), but tell me what can a toureg do that grand cherokee cant?
why would u use a crappy crv for 4wding? the only cars worth using for offroading should have solid axles front and rear. not crappy independent suspension
@Dotchetter I know right? where is the articulation...
if you are a partner of youtube you can do that. scroll to the bottom you can get one if have enough viewers and they pay you.
Those things are as articulate as my aunt with arthritis.
I'd be soo scared driving through that
@Cnupoc check this video out (couldn't post the link but just copy the following and paste it in the search bar):
Hummer H2 & Touareg in Milovice military/tank training area, CZ, part 1 of 2, Full HD
Yes, but what happens when yo try to go backwards?
Please, look for: Rotura diferencial delantero VW TOUAREG
hahaha 17:45 that lady is like "that was so good" like its a little boy learning to pee standing up. at 9:00 is that about an inch of articulation? sweeet.
All these videos show off is locking diffs these aren't off road vehicles there just lifted mini vans with locking diffs

if u got lockers all u need is one wheels on the ground and you'll and drive
That reason is why should I waste my time talking to you about the specs if it`s not going to make it better.
@lolnumpty lmao land rover a car??...last i checked it was in a SUV class.
Look at :07, does the pilot have his window down? Didn't know they came out! ha ha looks funny!
Music please? you could have put some german hard core to it.
the tourag actaully has full locking diffs
I drive a lot so my 2WD is a Diesel that just needs 1 1/4 Gallon of Diesel per 60 miles, impossible with any 4x4. @lolnumpty Lol it was sarcasm dude. I dont think I would sell my Jeep for anything.
Comparable to any other passenger vehicle designed for off-roading? Please educate the world on what because obviously you know far more than facts, statistics and reality.
you call that OFF-ROAD test ? :O
Nope, I don't have a modded vehicle, but I am amazed at how incredibly unintelligent the people that read my year old comments are. : )
oooooo goood gooood goooood vw touareg
@WhoHowWhereWhenWhat check out @7.46
that is pretty much driving on rough dirt tracks, im talking bout 4wding, driving up mountains going places that dont involve a shopping centre car park
just sayin ifs can do quite well if designed for off roading, but the ifs on chevy trucks and other similar ifs suck.
H1 beats everything, H2 is on a Tahoe chassis so not so good.
Should get one of the Touaregs to pull the plane out
vw forgot what they used to do best - volkswagen( people's car) good cars, low price.
a hummer h1 willl most likely go the same places a land cruiser go,or a least a new one,
if you have diff locks you cant do shit without a center diff lock.and they dont make ANY for a CRV.
we saw the toureg guy in moab on the poison spider trail we had to help him get up this one part it was pretty funny if u see this toureg guy we were driving a red jeep cj5 on poison spider
7:25 incredibly bad driver who just miraculously passed even without any technique and without crashing
i dont give a shit, my opinion is that broncos kick ass!!
7:15 for the thumbnail.
dude, your totaly wrong.
do you know about Paris Dakar, WRC?
all of these high performance things use racing suspention.
stir axles is no racing suspention, in no way.
i would never buy a car with stir axles, even if it's a vw.
it's SUV, not a offroad vihicle, like a the humvee, the original landrover defender.
the german army uses the mercedes G.
die hard ofroaders with stir axles have to prepare their suspention, too prevent the springs off falling from the vihicle.
lol it was having big issues save it for RR or Lexus
toyota mitshubishi, hummer, nissan, jeep are for off road not tuareg.
WOW!
may be u wanna say "at this point of the clip toureg did something jeep cant?"
It will never be a beast off road.
wow
@nielslernou I dont think you have been in a new jeep Have 5.7 GC 2011 .And gonaa buy used v10 vw touareg because used one lost 80% of value so ithat will be my scrap car vw $25000 and jeep was $100000
2 inches of articulation they must have sent an advance team to figure out the best and easiest path for this grocery getter gay gay the grand cherokee would make this toureg look stupid for half the price but it does have a loud horn useful around town
read my reply too 'HiluxDrifters'
a few lines below.
@JEFFPITESTI Best off-road in Europe sounds about right. This thing would get broken on the first trip out.
OW! LOL at the woman.
Well that was cute.
Whats hard ? Good driver whit normal 2wd passenger car can do the track ...
do you drive touareg V10????go drive and we toulk after you been drive one!!!!don t talk !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Это не джерман квэлити, это бред. Тут на любых жигулях проехать можно.
