Death Note is such a unique series to me because Protagonists are usually happy and bright but Light is just the complete opposite. He's willing to get his hands dirty if it means cleaning up the world, in his eyes. And we see in this episode he's willing to go far for his goal.

In addition to what you said the own words of the reactors is that no matter what murder is murder no matter who the person is but the thing is L literally says once Kira is caught he will be sentenced to death which is justice for L as well. So L literally shows that death is a true sentencing of justice to him. So not only are you correct with the puzzle pieces being used by L, he wants to do the same as Kira and kill the "criminal". People really do skip over that alot and that's just the beginning of it not including the manga and side stories of how messed up and dark L and even Watari really are.

Next... think what you would do if you received a Death Note... Most people would likely want to use it. Think about how many times you feel aggravated or outraged by news and people around you. How many times have you had a flash of thought that you would just love to remove some irritating person from existence only to come back to reality and put that thought out of your mind?

I don't know why but I genuinly support Light's idea about no crime world. I'm surprised that many people call Light antagonist right from the first episodes. I indeed get bullied sometimes and in my thought, I really want some guys to pay for their actions. If in a world that no form of crime or bully is allowed at all (even by force like Light's idea), wouldn't it be a nicer world to live in?

That's just your wishful thinking. In fact, in the process, Light only killed criminals at the beginning, and the target trans to innocent people and the police later. It was purged of all criminals on the surface, but maybe it's just created a bigger criminal.

The Psychology in this Series is so interesting, that it's been a required reading in lots of Psychology-Classes at Universities around the Globe. As Light said in the 1st Episode. He doesn't think he's doing something evil. And your reaction is the same as the "outside" one you were talking about xD It's really easy to say "you shall not kill" when you're not involved. Imagine you have a Baby and its going to get kidnapped, r*ped and murdered, but the Guy that did it only got 10 Years in Prison or has to be acquitted on a technicality. Wouldn't you wish them dead? How many People do you think are praying each day to their respective higher Entity for someone to get killed or taken revenge on? And besides our current Gods in our Religions, "Kira" does Stuff People can witness. And it is much easier to believe in a God who's Actions you can see^^ If e.g. the Christian/Jewish God would actually hands out divine justice if some breaks his 10 rules, what do you think would happend in our World? If you see some steal something and "BANG" his Hand is disappeared. Or you see some get killed and the Murderer is strike down by divine justice and fall dead on the spot as well? Only Criminals as for now. Same does the Officer. Both believe to be good man, but they kill bad people. Light does it because he believes it is for the greater good, the officer did it because he's payed to do so. Where do YOU draw the line between killing a person and killing a person? One is "unlawful" and the other is "lawful". But the Act is the same.
He didn't say in episode 1 that he isn't doing something evil. He absolutely thinks he's being evil, he says this several times throughout the show, he felt so guilty for his murders that he had to convince himself it was all in the service of some broader goal. If he doesn't succeed at making the world better, then it was all for nothing and he's no more than a mass murderer, but if he wins, then it was all worth it in the end for a perfect utopia. The ends justify the means except he specifically made up the ends to justify the actions he's already committed
Depends on what you mean by that. He's a perfectionist with a strong sense of justice and so, when he killed people testing out the death note, he had to double down to avoid the guilt, he has to justify his previous murders as necessary to create a better world because it's the only way to make his previous murders justifiable. He says this in the later third, if Kira loses, they're a villain, but if they win, they're a hero. The ends justify the means except he came up with the ends specifically to justify the means so he could still be perfect and just
In a real world, there is no way L can win. If i am the owner of the book, i just won't even play L's game, not giving him any chance to win. Enjoying the satisfaction that L is frustrated somewhere in the world, unable to figure out who is behind this
Hypothetically speaking, I'd win by default since L too couldn't find my name. The case would be unsolved. His perfect win record broken. At this point, he doesn't have DNA, weapons, methods used etc. Both sides lacks information. But it is to my advantage. L needs info to win. He is fishing for clues. But I would refuse to interact at all with L. Silent treatment. Why give my adversary with state resources at his disposal, a window on how my mind works. This story works because both L and Light have ego. They both competitive. They both want to uncover each other identities. But in the real world that is not smart. Criminals have been caught because they got cocky. By sending notes, taunting and interacting with authorities. That is just providing more clues for authorities to solve cases

While it is true that it would most likely take a lot longer to find you, you will never be close to killing L. I'm also going to presume that L is a lot smarter than you, so you might not even realise that you're playing his game. Most people wouldn't understand what L was thinking in the show, but since Light is a genius too, he makes it seem obvious.

The problem with that some people are innocent, and were just at the wrong place at the right time, for example I remember seeing a old man age 60 something after spending 20 years behind prison they finally found the real culprit who he (allegedly had shot) and the only thing that poor old man got was 30 bucks and a “I’m sorry”. So can’t take Lights side at all if there are those who are truly innocent.
He's a mass murderer with a childish yet strong sense of morality alongside extreme narcissistic and psychopathic tendencies. This episode has him killing who he thought to be an entirely innocent person with no hesitation for the crime of calling him evil
What does it mean to deserve to die? I don't think anyone deserves death, but that doesn't mean killing someone is never morally-justifiable. It's good to kill someone to prevent them from killing a family of five, but that doesn't make them deserving of death, it just means killing them was morally necessary. Very different
Btw the Author of Death Note messed up here. This series is an analogy, the Death Note represents the Death Penalty and Kira (Light) represents Pro Death Penalty and L was at least supposed to represent against the Death Penalty. But the Author made L say that he wants to sentence Kira to death, so basically the Death Penalty for committing a crime (murder), but thats the exact same thing Kira (Light) is doing, which L says its evil. So in the end L is the biggest Hypocrite right here. Light punishes criminals with Death Penalty and L wants to punish Kira with Death Penalty and in the end do the exact same thing that Kira is doing, but L claims that this is wrong, but does it himself -> Hypocrite.
It's not hypocritical to punish a criminal like kira who has murdered 50+ people, with the death penalty. Light doesn't just kill murderers, he kills all criminals.

Also you both got it wrong. The Protagonist here in this case, Light, is on the moral correct side of things and L is in the wrong. @@Retrovorious Light hasn't killed any innocent people (yet). So he's exactly like those officers. Only on a much quicker and more ruthless scale, but still, he kills Criminals. Only Criminals as for now. Same does the Officer. Both believe to be good man, but they kill bad people.
Light does it because he believes it is for the greater good, the officer did it because he's payed to do so. Where do YOU draw the line between killing a person and killing a person? One is "unlawful" and the other is "lawful". But the Act is the same.

He didn't say in episode 1 that he isn't doing something evil. He absolutely thinks he's being evil, he says this several times throughout the show, he felt so guilty for his murders that he had to convince himself it was all in the service of some broader goal. If he doesn't succeed at making the world better, then it was all for nothing and he's no more than a mass murderer, but if he wins, then it was all worth it in the end for a perfect utopia. The ends justify the means except he specifically made up the ends to justify the actions he's already committed

Depends on what you mean by that. He's a perfectionist with a strong sense of justice and so, when he killed people testing out the death note, he had to double down to avoid the guilt, he has to justify his previous murders as necessary to create a better world because it's the only way to make his previous murders justifiable. He says this in the later third, if Kira loses, they're a villain, but if they win, they're a hero. The ends justify the means except he came up with the ends specifically to justify the means so he could still be perfect and just

Hypothetically speaking, I'd win by default since L too couldn't find my name. The case would be unsolved. His perfect win record broken. At this point, he doesn't have DNA, weapons, methods used etc. Both sides lacks information. But it is to my advantage. L needs info to win. He is fishing for clues. But I would refuse to interact at all with L. Silent treatment. Why give my adversary with state resources at his disposal, a window on how my mind works.
This story works because both L and Light have ego. They both competitive. They both want to uncover each other identities. But in the real world that is not smart. Criminals have been caught because they got cocky. By sending notes, taunting and interacting with authorities. That is just providing more clues for authorities to solve cases
@@hazri999 Unless you mean stopping killing criminals, that wouldn't work. L is the greatest detective in the world, he has ways of gaining information. While it is true that it would most likely take a lot longer to find you, you will never be close to killing L. I'm also going to presume that L is a lot smarter than you, so you might not even realise that you're playing his game. Most people wouldn't understand what L was thinking in the show, but since Light is a genius too, he makes it seem obvious.

the world realized kira was a thing because all criminals were dying of heart attacks, light wanted for people to know of this god of the new world, but give all criminals random deaths and theres no way identify the death note user

The problem with that some people are innocent, and were just at the wrong place at the right time, for example I remember seeing a old man age 60 something after spending 20 years behind prison they finally found the real culprit who he (allegedly had shot) and the only thing that poor old man got was 30 bucks and a “I’m sorry”. So can’t take Lights side at all if there are those who are truly innocent.
He's a mass murderer with a childish yet strong sense of morality alongside extreme narcissistic and psychopathic tendencies. This episode has him killing who he thought to be an entirely innocent person with no hesitation for the crime of calling him evil

What does it mean to deserve to die? I don't think anyone deserves death, but that doesn't mean killing someone is never morally-justifiable. It's good to kill someone to prevent them from killing a family of five, but that doesn't make them deserving of death, it just means killing them was morally necessary. Very different

Btw the Author of Death Note messed up here. This series is an analogy, the Death Note represents the Death Penalty and Kira (Light) represents Pro Death Penalty and L was at least supposed to represent against the Death Penalty. But the Author made L say that he wants to sentence Kira to death, so basically the Death Penalty for committing a crime (murder), but thats the exact same thing Kira (Light) is doing, which L says its evil. So in the end L is the biggest Hypocrite right here. Light punishes criminals with Death Penalty and L wants to punish Kira with Death Penalty and in the end do the exact same thing that Kira is doing, but L claims that this is wrong, but does it himself -> Hypocrite.
It's not hypocritical to punish a criminal like kira who has murdered 50+ people, with the death penalty. Light doesn't just kill murderers, he kills all criminals.

Also you both got it wrong. The Protagonist here in this case, Light, is on the moral correct side of things and L is in the wrong. For that to understand, you would have to understand how justice works, which most people dont. Its not a matter of opinion who is right or wrong (subjectively), its a factual matter (objectively).

I wouldn't put too much weight on the comment about heaven and hell. In Christianity, only one God exists and Ryuk should not exist at all. It's quite possible that he just made that up for fun.
No,Ryuk did not make that up. It was very well confirmed by the creators of Death Note themselves that there are no heaven and hell in the Death Note universe and the only place they go when they die us Mu/Nothingness.
