You are the best youtube vegan foodie because you are the perfect blend of informative and easy to relate to!! You are definitely the most inspiring and my FAVORITE vegan youtuber so thank you so much!!!! ❤
When I was a kid (born and raised in Singapore), my mum used to coat the tempeh in a paste made of turmeric, chilli powder and salt and deep fry it. Yum!
@@SaintOrCinema steaming it is the way I go. Steam before marinading it. Changes texture, takes some of the fermented bite out of it, and it actually takes in the marinate better.
As Indonesian I wanna tell you: believe me, tempe never disappoints you! Recipe for making tempe chips: Cut tempe as thin as possible (about 3mm), the size of a matchbox or cigarette box, dry it in the sun for 1-2 days until it dries. Then fry in oil for a while. You can sprinkle on a pinch of salt, or powdered sugar or popcorn flavoring powder, or ground pepper. Enjoy! 😀
My favorite tempeh recipe is as a sandwich filling. It’s steamed, crumbled, cooled and you add vegan mayo, parsley, chopped walnuts, celery, grated carrot, onion. It’s so yummy!
Been making my own tempeh for years. And I use banana leaves to ferment the beans in which results in a smooth tasting tempeh that you don't find in the stores. And you can do it too if you have an instant pot or an oven. My last batch was with small garbanzo beans and wild rice. Small garbanzo beans are the ones used for hummus. Not the beans you get from WF or TJs. Anyway, frozen banana leaves are pretty cheap at most Asian grocers in the US. And I buy the starter, which comes from Thailand, on Amazon.
Hi, I've heard that soy causes hormonal imbalance because of it's estrogen levels. Is that true? If so, is soy as Tempeh better than the beans/tofu for lower Estrogen? Thanks.
@@cali.songbird please go to NutritionFacts.org, for clarification on the myths that have kept too many from enjoying the benefits of minimally processed soy!! So good for you!!
I made breakfast for dinner tonight with the Tempe breakfast sausages, home fries with a side of cabbage and chocolate peppermint nice cream for dessert. WOW those sausages are wonderful.
High protein super foods are perfect for older people who want to lose weight. As we age it’s harder to lose weight! But keeping good fat and proteins aids weight loss! I do these vlogs and I’m on a weight loss journey 62 pounds down
High protein just gets converted into glucose via gluconeogensis, so it's absolutely pointless. Carbs are important for many reasons, including metabolites that help your immune system and cell regeneration.
You have no idea how much I needed this video! I’ve been vegan for about 7 yrs and have struggled to incorporate tempeh (even though I really wanted to). I’m always on the hunt for protein sources so this helps me add something else to my diet! Thanks for sharing!
I love that your videos are always easy to follow but also kinda creative - like you don't spell everything out to us in a rigid way, it makes it so much easier to make these recipes than having to have exact amounts of every single thing. Thank you for another amazing video :)
I found you and your channel today. My husband and I went no-dairy, no-meat at the end of last year. We're having SO MUCH FUN! I want to explore tempeh, and now I can't wait to try your recipes. Glad to have found you!
It's crazy how perfectly timed the subject of your videos are to me lately. I have two blocks of tempeh in my freezer and yesterday I was thinking about how to prepare them other than "baconing" them. I think I'm going to try the breakfast patties. They look so delicious!
Love your Passion, love your work!! I recently started making my own tempeh; cooking the beans and adding a starter, the finished tempeh, Is amazing, and I can't wait to try some of your delicious recipes! Thank you.
Thank you for sharing. I just had tempeh for the first time two weeks ago. I was pleasantly surprised at how good it was. Can’t wait to try your recipes.
Listen a couple of months ago I found your tempeh recipe , soooo everything Tempeh. I finally made my own tempeh . IT TASTE WAYYY BETTER THAN STORE BOUGHT. Thanks for introducing us 😀
We in Indonesia love to cook tempeh in various ways, but one of the simplest recipe is to marinate the tempeh in a mixture made of water, salt, garlic, coriander, and turmeric and to fry the tempeh. Yummy!
I have needed a video like this for so long.lol I became vegan over 2 years ago and only tried to cook Tempeh last year and I havent had it since. haha but this video is making me want to give it another try. I love the soup that you made and the taco and TLT are all great ideas. THANK YOU!!! ❤️
My first time preparing/eating tempeh! I used the first marinade then heated it up on the frying pan. I tossed into kale that was ~~massaged~~ with dressing 😆 v v good. Thanks for the great work 💗💗💗
I love how creative the recipes are :) tempeh was a big part of my diet growing up. My favorite way to eat tempeh is to slice it up somewhat thinly, soak in hot water with crushed garlic and white pepper then just deep fry it and have it with hot white rice, sambal and ulam (raw vegetables). Sometimes I let the tempeh go slightly 'off' (our Tempeh is white but I let it darken) because it gives a richer, meatier taste.
As usual, Jenne, you hit it outta da park! More recipes for me to try...but can we please talk about your music game? "Have mercy baby!" Assume your husband put that all together for you? He needs to have a Spotify channel! Now...off to marinade me some tempeh...
I just bought a ton of tempeh at trader joe’s because I realized it was the same price as tofu, then got home and was at a loss for what to do with it so thank you for this video! I’m going to try the patties today and the maple mustard salad for my work lunches this week!
Not really one for eating soy since it mimics estrogen and I'm a guy but I have a dozen packets of tempeh that I got as a "gift", I don't know what to do with. I found this fairly helpful, that pot of tikka masala looked especially good so I'll try that. Thanks.
OMG! I just found you, this is an amazing video. I love your energy and the recipes are all terrific. I have tempeh and have never eaten it or cooked with it. I can’t wait to try these recipes! I am trying to convert to more plant based, less meat.
I’ve loved tempeh since spending time in Indonesia. I tend to default to the flavors I learned there. I had not thought about slow cooking in bbq. I’m going to try it.
Thanks for publishing another great appetizing and healthy video. I have a question to ask you, or rather a request. It is about survival. Would you please create a video on how you plan to stock your pantry for the upcoming food shortage? What type of food would you buy to feed one to two persons eating to regular meals a day, keeping into account that this could last for a year or so? What would you buy if you could on a limited budget to ensure you have enough for yourself and to help someone less fortunate than you? Thank you very much for your attention to my request, this is a so much needed type of video in these time we are living.
I tried tempeh in a curry that I'd bought ready-marinated and liked it but then tried to marinade and cook my own and it was really dry (to be fair I think I way over-cooked it) so I'll have to try some of these recipes and see how I like them!
I tried tempeh with soya sauce for my salad and it's freaking delicious you guys should try it! there's a lot of flavour in it (once there's seasoning obviously) ;) .
Great video as usual ! ^^ I can't wait to try the marinated tempeh recipe (I just have to get my hands on some tempeh before, it's not as easily procurable as tofu where I live) :)
I wonder if people know that tempeh is a dish originated from my country, Indonesia. It has been my favourite food since I grow up but even more so now that I'm vegan. It's harder to find tempeh as I currently live in Australia, though, but I can still find it! (Though clearly not as tasty as the original, original tempeh made by my people.)
It's easy to find in Australia in the big cities at least. Why not learn to make your own Indonesian style? I ate it a lot whilst in Indonesia & then got sick of it. Now I want to try it again but not the deep fried one that was very popular in Java. I think they used 🌴🌴 palm oil for frying and we know that palm oil is not good for our health. 👌😂🌿
Where do you buy your tempeh? The one store that was sure to have it went out of business. I checked at one of the best Asian markets in the DC area. They had 50 kinds of tofu, but only one sad little frozen tempeh patty imported directly from Indonesia. That sad little guy was long expired. Ideas? Thanks!
Thumbs up this video if you’d like me to teach you TEMPEH FROM SCRATCH made with different types of beans ;)
Yes please!! I’m trying to find a way for me to appreciate tempeh enough to incorporate it into my diet, and I’d love this!!!
Can't wait!
Hmm did you share this as yet,!going to check now I hope you did especially with OTHER BEANS whoohooo
I want different tempehs! I am new to your channel, hope you've already uploaded it. :,)

Can this be used in meatless meatloaf?
When I was a kid (born and raised in Singapore), my mum used to coat the tempeh in a paste made of turmeric, chilli powder and salt and deep fry it. Yum!
Yummmm!! Sounds delicious :)
Boil the tempeh for 5-10 minutes before preparing! It totally changes the texture (a little softer) and takes away any bitterness
As in before marinating too? Boil first? This sounds a great tip X
I believe if you boiled it for so long you'll kill all the good nutrients and cultured bacterias
I was taught years ago by a natural foods chef to steam it first...same idea. Takes some of the "bite" out of it.
I simmer mine first with garlic ginger and tamari ..

I randomly pulled up several tempeh videos and this was the best of the bunch, by miles.

Tempeh is definitely so underrated. Thanks for showing a bunch of fun ways to use it 😍😍😍😍

You need a show on Food Network! ❤
For the marinade I would sub out the soy sauce with miso and replace the sweetener with blackstrap molasses.

I'm about to go to the store and buy some temper. Thanks for the inspiration!
I understand tempeh is the healthiest way to eat soy because it's fermented. I like it crumbled & marinated rather than cubed!
Your maple mustard sauce is YUM!
So many variations of tempeh, I like tempeh ❤️
I love tempeh. I ate it before tofu but didn't know very many recipes for tempeh.
Thank you so much for this video! I just branched out into tempe and I made some vegan tempe dumplings with mushrooms and baby bok choy!

My ONLY drawback is finding good protein. I’m really weird about textures. I need to try this before I make the jump.
