  • Join John Good as he travels to the Stradivari Forest to hand select lumber for this very special, limited edition Collector’s Series® 45th Anniversary drumset. From log to finely-crafted instrument, experience each painstaking step of the manufacturing process as narrated by DW’s resident Woodologist.
    *The kit you hear during the final reveal is the 45th Anniversary Set.
    AN ULTRA-COLLECTABLE LIMITED EDITION KIT FOR THE AGES
    From the DW Custom Shop, and inspired by renown violin maker Antonio Stradivari, comes the Collector’s Series “Sapphire” Anniversary drum set and snare drum. Each finely-crafted instrument
    is constructed from hand-picked Norwegian Spruce from the Fiemme Valley in Northern Italy and select European Sycamore. An intricate laser-cut inlay adorns each shell that is finished in a Natural-to-Candy Black Burst Lacquer Specialty finish. Offered as pre-configured 6-piece drum sets and individual snare drums, only 145 of each will ever be produced. DRKT45A, DREX6514SSK45A

    My brother is a planner for DW and loves it. My late pops was a woodworker there for many years. When he passed the owners made amazing contributions to our family to help with our loss. I'll never forget that. It's a great company.

    These is not one other Drum Company out there that would make an attempt to include the consumer in how something this important came to be. Thank you Mr. Good, Thank you DW for all that you have done. At 54 years of age I am hoping that I soon will be able to afford to buy a DW kit. Regardless of whether that day ever comes DW will always be the #1 percussion company on the planet, shit probably even in the galaxy! Its a privilege to hear this story,Thank You!

    I recall a video where John Good shares that years ago he wanted to be a drummer in a band, but just didn't have it in him. But much like a creative sound engineer becomes part of the band by selecting the proper equipment and carving the sound with EQ, Compression, Pan, Gain, deployment of amps and speaker hangs, etc., John Good has become part of many bands with his immense passion for creating drums and the many innovations in the way drums are designed and crafted. How different construction methods can affect the tone and sustain qualities... and how even the beauty of the woods and finishes can inspire drummers the world over. John Good has indeed become part of each drummer that plays DW drums. John Good has become a member of many bands. Congratulations to DW Drums, to John & Don and the entire family at DW on 45 years of being in the band. What an awesome adventure!

    I see some people say DW are over priced but to my ear they have a sound I am after for my overall desire. Are there other kits/makers that offer great kits at great price points? Absolutely! Gretsch being one of my favorite. But I am of the belief that I will spend my hard earned money on a set of DW customs. They sound amazing and worth it

    • @dwdrums
      @dwdrums  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    • @Dan_the_Great_
      @Dan_the_Great_ 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      They are expensive for a reason. The name Collectors says it all. My buddy Sergio acedo bought 2 Dw snares…. One is 14x5 and the other is a brass 14x6.5. The brass went up in price up and is worth $1,200. The 14x5 is now $2,500. And the 50 anniversary edge snare was $1,200. Now it’s $5k. One of hardest kits to find out as a set or so… the candy apple red is the price of a collectors and it’s a performance series.

    I went to see John Good on the third of May 2019 and walked into his factory in Oxnard Ca.. I had watched him give the graduation speech at Music Institute this past July, but John did not know me from Adam. He abruptly stopped his day and spent three hours showing me the entire DW factory and introducing me to virtually each one of his craftsmen. I have been playing drums for 45 years and can tell you with absolute certainty I have never seen such a level of craftsmanship and commitment to precision and excellence. It was amazing how happy all the people producing these instruments were. They would stop work remove their gloves and safety glasses and shake my hand. What they are doing is in no way easy or easily learned. There is no way anyone on this planet is producing drums that sound this good or are this unique. Add to this John is doing this In America, in California, and employing Americans. No rest for John as he is constantly pushing the envelope of acoustic perfection.I asked John is there any wood you have not used to make a drum and he replied, only one Balsa! It was an experience I shall never forget imparted to me by a very humble, grateful human being. John Good is a one in a million.

    The resonant trees from Val di Fiemme are called "Abete Rosso". They are resonant because of the alternating layers of more or less resinous rings due to fluctuations in winter temperatures. Fazioli makes its pianos' soundboards using this wood. Mostly, the wood has been used for centuries for stringed instruments, the most famous of which were made in nearby Cremona by Nicola Amati and his pupil, Antonio Stradivari.

    My DWs were built for a famous drummer in 1992. I think I'll start referring to them as "The 20th Anniversary Kit".

    What I want to know is, how does this kit stack up against the "Timeless Timber" series of kits. That is a wonderful sounding kit and I know that it is an old series of drums, none the less, a fantastic sounding kit. I have not had the pleasure of playing one, but, I did get the store owner to play on it for a few minuets and what a sound! Just AWESOME, all made from forgotten wood that was sitting in deep cold fresh water for decades. And these logs still fetch a hefty price when pulled up from the bottom of lake Michigan and probably any of the other Great Lakes as well. I have been fortunate enough to purchase a "Collector series" of drums in "Green Candy to Black Fade" and what a great looking and sounding kit. I have never been one to "muffle" the natural sounds of a kit. On lower end kits you kind of have to, but, The Collector's series I have never put anything on the heads to change the timber or pitch of the drum at all. And depending upon the head that I use, I get a different sound. The note is there, but the timber will change. And I love that fact. slap on some coated heads and you have a totally different feel to the kit, it sings to you differently. Put on DW series heads and it sings to you in a different manner. I just love these kits. The only thing that I like and dislike at the same time is that they are not clear coated. That allows the natural sound to work its way through the shell from the inside out as well as top to bottom; which with a clear coated head contains that sound and forces it through the heads. That is my belief. I have two kits, one is a Birch wood custom recording from Yamaha that is clear coated, and the Collectors kit from DW that is not clear coated. I know Yamaha and DW are two totally different companies and differing philosophies as to making an instrument; however you can not deny the fact that Yamaha makes great drums and pianos. I don't know if they are in the business of making other instruments, but, I know of drums and pianos, lol. I love both kits in differing ways, and they will always hold a place in my heart. I love this story; it sounds amazing to have set foot upon ground, where one of the premier violin makers in the world once walked, that is something. That would be like going into DaVincis workshop if it were still up and in its original place. That would be amazing as well! I would also like to know if there is a video like this when they were making the "Timeless Timber" kits? If anyone knows, please share with me!

    Hi Jonh Good I was wondering if you could make and upload a youtube video on a battery finish ply exotic mappa burl but with the measurements of the toms of 12 x 8, 14 x 15, and 16 x 16 and but with the aerial grips in all The toms is that this battery would be the one I most like to see it on youtube at least this only if you want and if you do not look very busy because it is all the work you have by the way I love the brand dw and I hope it keeps progressing.

      Hi Daniel,
      Mapa Burl is a Veneer and will have little affect on the overall tone of our drums. We have many videos with different wood types and similar sizes that will give you a representation of sounds.
