I just ordered the new DW carbon fiber 5000 double pedal and hi-hat stands from you guys yesterday. I love all these DW kits. The DW Jazz snare, Birch/Mahogany kit, with a special nod to the PurpleCore kick drum were my favorites. I hope some day you demo their Cherry Jazz Series kits. One in big sizes and one in bop sizes. Or maybe the 3 different shell variations in the Jazz Series. The Cherry Jazz drums are, ironically, some of the best drums for rock I’ve ever played. There aren’t really any decent videos of those drums out there. The world needs to hear how great those drums are and nobody would record them better than DCP.

Never been a fan of DW (maybe because of the round lugs?) but the kits all sounded great, and I especially liked them in the higher tuning range! In the head-to-head I favored the Birch/Mahogany and the Purpleheart snare. Another killer video guys! You make being a drummer a lot more fun.

Guys, I appreciate the amount of effort to put this together, so thanks, awesome job.
Given that there are no changes to the signal chains or proximity of the mics, most of differences I heard were primarily in the pitch or note (not exactly matched kit to kit)
Overall, I would go with the Purple Core blue drums and “low tuning” as it sounded more powerful.

Thank you guys for the Head to Head at the end. I love hearing more isolated hits, and even one shots back to back, or even just on kits/snares/cymbals etc on their own! Tony does a fantastic job tunning.,that being said, for some reason the bass drums sounded a little strange to me.ive always loved the sound of factory single ply heads on the kick with the dw pillow inside.Did these 3 kits have the 2ply head on the kick side???If so not a fan of that particular sound. Beautiful drums.!!!

At the higher tuning, which would be closer to where id tune em, gimme the birch/mahogany toms, maple/purpleheart kick, and the purpleheart snare. Wished yall wouldve done a head to head at the lower tunings as well. I also know its so hard to keep from having a dribbly attack with those big kicks, especially if youre a player that buries the beater.

Great stuff as always. I would love to hear some of these bass drums tuned a little more open. Not bop "open", but a more Bonham sounding bass drum would give a little more room to hear the different qualities. I can definitely tell differences in the toms but the bass drums across all 3 kits sound nearly the same.

Over the last few years I have become more and more impressed with mahogany.
I love both mahogany sets and I agree with one other comment about how awesome the mah/spruce bass sounded.
The Pearl Session kits are mahogany/birch and that bass drum has a great crack/attack. It also has a 60 bearing edge which I like for attack. Rock kits with bass drums that have less than a 45 bearing edge just don't make it for me.
Unfortunately the Pearl shells have vertical seams which don't appeal to me visually.

I gotta be honest. All of these kits look and sound great but I just don’t hear that unique sound that sets DW apart from the other drum companies. What I mean is that when I hear a Ludwig or Gretsch or Sonor or A&F….I can hear the distinctive sound of those companies. I don’t really hear that in DW. I’m not bashing DW at all because they make beautiful drums but I just don’t hear a DW sound. Am I the only one? Again, I’m not against DW at all. Just a thought. As far the kits, my favorite was the Birch/Mahogany. Beautiful looking kit.
