So like 6 years ago,give or take. I rode my Harley from Long Island out to Teluca Lake CA to see a friend. As I spent time there I decided to ride up to Oxnard and see the factory, especially since I just bought a collectors maple mahogany kit. So I ride up there, no appointment, walk in and ask for a tour. The receptionist tells me only Tuesday and Thursdays I believe. So we get to talking and some dude walks out, I tell him my story how I rode out here, and you guys built me this beautiful MM kit etc, he goes "stay right here". Dude comes back with John Good and we get to talking. John gives me my own private tour of the DW factory!!!. Great guy and an even better human being. John was so impressed I rode all the way there he said he had to give me a tour lol. Definetly a highlight of my life. Thank you John I'll never forget what you did for me

That’s fantastic!! I had a similar situation in 1996. My flight back to Michigan was supposed to leave and I couldn’t make the scheduled tour so they invited me out a day early and I spent a couple hours with John one-on-one. He and his crew were amazing! Solid people and great drums and hardware!!

Dude sanding the wood is very important because if it's not sanded down, then you're going to have a drum shell with a bunch of chips it, and probably get some splinters.

Very nice facility and it appears they have lots of people working in there factory it’s just to bad they don’t have anyone working in the front office to answer the phone. 6 months ago I ordered a set of drums through Long and Mcquade and after it was on order for a month I asked Long and Mcquade to call DW for an update on when it would be shipped and the Factory could not be bothered to reply back so after waiting 2 weeks for a response back that never happened I cancelled my order. DW appears to make a lot of drums it’s just to bad there not all that interested in selling them.

Great video, love DW Drums. As a percussionist, I would like to see a factory tour of LP, Latin Percussion.
For all the guitarist watching, the Guild factory is like 5 minutes away as well. They make all the usa acoustics there. Its also a pretty cool factory.
In 2006, my Bro, whom was a drummer, & I had gone here! It was a surprise tour I had called to set up & he 'thought' we were going to the beach! :)
Funny story though...When I had stopped at a gas station to get specific directions, I would have thought for sure he would have figured out that we were in farm country & nowhere near a beach, but he wasn't fazed :) And I had told him [since he thought we were going to the beach], to bring a t-shirt change, because he was wearing a Pearl T-shirt in front of that DW Wall & when we went inside to check in with the receptionist at the front, she busted his balls about the shirt, but we assured her that we had a change in the car!! Haaaa.....
And to comment what others said: At the end of the tour, they lead you into a room with many kits set up & tell you, you can play any set!! And they gave you a DW Drum Key!! The tour was amazing!

howdy- so when did you go on this tour? i ask because.. at the 8:45 min mark- the Lacquer room; I see my Red and Blue Mapa Burl drum shells, on the right, hanging on a rack. I just took delivery of the entire kit on 5/17/23. Excellent video as well. Thank you for posting. And YES- that Neil Peart R40 kit at the end...Priceless!!!!

miss the days that they would let you play on the sets. there used to be like 5-6 drumsets in the showroom that you can play. it's awesome to see bozzio and neil's set displayed. mustve been crazy to see in person.

You have to go to the DW factory day event they do every year. They have artists playing, tours of the factory, drums and merch for sale. It's pretty awesome and it's free to get in

Bro labeling is also very important to stay organized.
FYI they’re not checking the shells for timbre (pronounced tamber)at the end. They are checking the tuning of the drums so that they can mark the inside of the shells for the new owner.
Timbre match in comes way before they ever put paint. That would be absurd to paint drums not to have the match and have to throw them away or send them down and refinish them. Logic

I'm curious to hear what they have to say about the shells note when considering once you add the hardware on them it changes the note completely
It’s a marketing strategy. A good one, but just a selling fad. The note of shell changes just like you said. It’s their “thing!” People buy it. Oh well. Drum on.
That is true but what’s interesting is that if you tune the bottom head to the note on the the inside of the shell, then tune the top head a half step to minor third above it (per John Good’s recommendation) your drums will sound really good. I’ve tried it with my Collector’s Cherry Jazz kit and it totally worked. My kit has 12”, 13”, & 14” toms and when tuned this way not only were the intervals good between them, but the character of the drums in that range went well together. So, it works, but you can also tune them however you like. They’re great drums.

What's the main principal difference between Collectors and Performance series ??
Bro i bet that big ass 3D printer probably costs like about a half a million bucks.
It was reaaaaly expensive for a 3D printer and it was the entry version haha
So my question is, do the workers get any kind of discount? If so how much of a discount. I'm trying to decide on whether to get an application or not 😂
Man, you walk into the showroom to see all these amazing drum sets and can't fucking play them, that's bullshit.
Not all the DW drums are made in the USA,there is a plant in Taiwan, which also makes entry level sets of Slingerland, Gretsch and all the PDP sets.
DW is not even an American owned company anymore. All the DW operations have been incorporated as a division of Roland.
I think that machine in the wood room is probably used to cut the wood to the right size.

You could just steal the carbon fiber double kick pedal if you really want it, but I wouldn't risk doing it if I were you.

What does lacquer even mean, and what is it.
It’s a clear material that gets sprayed onto the shell to give it a glossy look, and to protect it.

Never been a fan of DW Drums. They just don’t resonate the way Sonor, Gretsch and Pearl do. Maybe the plies, the glue, the hardware? Who knows, but I do know that all of that takes o piece of the sound.

You’re nuts. Are used to have a set of collectors and they sang. It was just after they stopped using Keller shells and started making their own.
I recorded an album and a pretty good studio, and the engineer that runs the place begged me to sell him the drums because they sounded so amazing compared to the hundreds of other drum sets he heard.
Sonar sound pretty damn good too.

All the other series are made in.......China, Malaysia, Taiwan? So what's the difference to Pearl, Tama, Sonor and many others. Big mouth sometimes telling nonsense and a promotion dpt. working 24/7/365.
