@@dirtygnomesgardens1667 I have a question.. my navel orange on the orange tree is marble size but it’s been 5 months and it’s turning yellow..is it ripening? I made a video just now on it. Why is it so small? And is it ripening or is it going to fall off? Thanks
I have no idea about this since i'm a greenhorn but didn't you just cut off 3-4 time the mulberries? Wouldn't it be best to prune summer after the fruiting? That way you prune to size and still might have 2' new growth for nest year if it's a fast growing tree. Thanks.
The tree only fruits on new growth. So everything I cut off would not fruit. You might have more growth if you don't cut it back as much as I did, but I don't like pruning in the summer. It would be worth a try.
@@dirtygnomesgardens1667 Greenhorn again. My Illinois Everbearing, Dwarf Everbearing and Weeping mulberry all have fruit in March so they fruited on last year wood at every bud new growth? Is that because mine are everbearing and your is not? Thanks
@@dirtygnomesgardens1667 I think I understand now. The fruit is not actually on the old wood but so close I thought it was but it's actually at the beginning of a new branch.
@@dirtygnomesgardens1667 I just made a video on my mulberry tree... it has shoots now.. 😃 but also it has dead branches from the record cold few weeks ago.
@@dirtygnomesgardens1667 I'm in zone 5 and just ordered a dwarf mulberry. It is coming as a 5 year old 5 to 6 ft high. I think if I dig my hole 4 ft diameter and fill it with 7 year old composted wood chips and 25% original soil it should not freeze and die . 6 to 10 inchesCompost on top before winter. We usually get 1 to 2 ft snow and Temps around 0to 10 for a month

From my experience, it will probably fall off. The fruit often turn yellow before falling off.

What time of year should you trim all those big branches off? Do you spray anything over where you cut?
I pruned it in February before it woke up. I don't spray anything on the cuts but it wouldn't hurt to protect it some.

What dose the mulberry look like now? How much new growth is on it now?
It has put on about 6 inches of growth. It's looking good.

What is the coldest it gets where you are for a year
Mid/high 20s F. We usually only have one or two nights like that. This last winter we didn't dip into the 20s and barely got to freezing.

That's pretty cold. I know some mulberries are hardy down as low as zone 4 so hopefully this will work for you. Good luck!
