My parents always leave out packages with sweets and a tip around Christmas and Easter. They're also great with dogs! Ours is kinda skittish around strangers but loves them ever since we started leaving them dog treats too. :)

I can't even comprehend being a delivery driver like this. I'd spend way too much time looking in the back of the truck for the right package, or triple checking if this is the right address for this house ect. I'd definitely mess up quite a bit and take waaaay more time than I should.

    • @InfiniteRhombus
      @InfiniteRhombus 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

first 5-6 months are awful and will make you want to kill yourself, eventually you learn how to compartmentalize stuff and it gets easier. I dont work for amazon or fedex but I do work for another logistics company making like $26/hr and have daily bonuses on top of it that pushes it closer to 27.50 for just driving around in a climate controlled van listening to music all day. Im doing way less work than amazon/fedex/ups and I make way more money than them, plus the stories about drivers making 50-80k a year is pretty accurate as long as you have experience, if you know how to plot and run your route efficiently you can actually end up making more than that. You wouldn't believe the types of cars my coworkers drive to work, not in a million years.

You get used to it and your scanner or phone lets you know it's the right package. My only 2 biggest pet peeves as a driver for Amazon are the terrible grouping of stops especially at apartment complexes and being forced to do rural areas at night in the pitch black dark, as you're less likely to see loose dogs and many people think you are a burglar.

I will say there are a lot more positive people I visit than bad ones. Only time I ever had a bad experience was a couple weeks ago I was entering a neighborhood that starts off flat but to get deeper into it you had to drive up a hill. So my truck is a bit older and you really gotta put your foot on the pedal when going up a hill, so I had to hit 28 mph to even get up it. I am finished at the top and then I drove down the hill, riding brakes which I generally do and this asshole dude pulls out in front of me while I'm going down the hill and he is going 5 mph. I'm thinking to myself that it's an older person or whatever. So I stop at one of the final houses and he stalls about 2 cars lengths in front of me. I deliver the final package, get in then he keeps going 5 mph til he gets to the end and pulls into the middle of the road, gets out and starts yelling at me. I ask him what's going on and he points at the speed limit sign. I ask him what about it and he said I'm going too fast. ??? Was going 28 tops and he wasn't having any of it. He threatened me that I was their 3rd delivery driver and to not end up like the other 2. I was like "dude, I've been on this route for like 8 weeks, i don't care who your other 2 drivers were, I was going 28 mph up a fucking hill with no one on the street or sidewalks. I have to go 28 to at least get up the hill. No please move so I can keep working." Dude just got back in his car and let me pass him.
Unsure what compels people to lecture a delivery driver. We get and keep our jobs because we know how to drive efficiently.
28 in a 25 isn't gonna do anything. See loads of people on the daily drive thru subs at 35 mph.

I actually took the heavy packages as exercise so that was fine. In the end it started going to a point where you got so many places to deliver that it was hard to get even one break. Just that tiny 15mins for eating. One time a boss went with one driver and was like "this is not tolerable!" when they had only that 15min per day, but ofc they did nothing about it :D It's pain in the end. Great video as always!

That's why you should become a quit quiter. I did it 20 years ago, long before it was a trend. Back then I realised I got nothing out of working harder than expected. As a matter of fact, I just took a bite out of my own salary, because when the job was done, there were no more hours for me to work, thus I did not get paid these hours. Instead of praising my behaviour, it was pure self punishment. Never in a corporate job work harder than expected, unless there is some sort of guarantee you will be rewarded.
So I was quicly done with "the hourly wage jobs", where I was always a quit quiter. I became an account executive (basically a salesman for highly speculative trading at a firm I can not mention) and working on provision basis. Did it 7 years, made a nice bit of money, and the last 6 months of that job I became a quit quiter again, only to get paid my normal salary. I used that extra time for myself to start my own business. Now exactly 10 years ago and if I could do it all over again I'd do exactly the same. Just wished I had bought bitcoin back than, the only thing I'd change.

One day they gave me a route that was just houses that were far apart, all with long driveways. After about an hour of deliveries and looking at the rest of the map it was apparent that finishing the route for that day would take more than FORTY HOURS if I walked fast and took no breaks. OH NO IT DOESNT END THERE!!!
When you get back after your route is done and they have a second route for whatever reason.
When your coworker calls off from work and you have to finish there route and yours with the same time.
When dispatch activity messes up your route by not adding the right details. Scheduling the pickup or drop off time at a bad time ie. Business doesn’t open for another 2 hours.
You stayed on route long enough to catch the major traffic for the day. In Houston it’s 2:30-7:30 PM everything takes an extra 20 minutes.
When someone purposely tries to make you hit them for insurance money.
When you get pulled over for something dumb and the company doesn’t pay the ticket.
When a coworker messed up a part of your delivery. Doesn’t give you the right stuff, forgot something, needs to add 1 more thing, etc.
The location you deliver to is a corporate building and there rent a cops take their job to serious and actively block you from doing your job by telling you to move your vehicle, sign in, oh you need a badge, I need to call ahead for you, I need to walk with you to the client, how long you gonna be here???
And you can’t forget the abysmal pay for literally risking your life every day with no benefits or really crappy ones.
I could seriously continue but you get the point…

I worked an Ad-hoc courier job after buying my own van, so working as a sub-contractor for a big company and you start closer to home and they give you a work phone to accept new pick-up orders as you go. I liked it at first, plenty of pallet on pallet off, but they'd overload you and it was a case of too many chefs spoil the broth.
The work phone was obnoxiously loud, and you'd get emails from work saying "Don't be using your phone while driving" but if you didn't press accept after a certain time, they'd ring you 😖
I live in W Aus and the baggage claim on Saturday is staffed by the Melbourne branch, bunch of passive aggressive arseholes asking why you can't drive 100km in 30min over numerous highways 😆
I live north of Perth and requested the northern suburbs, then they'd send me over an hour one way down south, then wonder what was taking so long.
When i quit, they took my 2 way radio, which I'D FUCKIN PAID FOR!!!
My hubby and I run our own thing now and we've been helping local companies grow, going to get my Dangerous Goods/ ammo and have a fat time 😎

@@tmc3178 I just got a socialized associate's degree in Information Technology, and four certifications (CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, and Microsoft's Windows 7 Configuration and Management).
You can of course get higher degrees and much more difficult certifications, but if you're going for entry-level this will put you way above the other guys who are starting and will give you a better chance at a higher wage.
A lot of employers don't actually care about the education or the certifications as long as you can prove you know your stuff. When you don't, you go to school and get those papers lol
It worked out great for me. I went to a two-year college (trade/tech school) that teaches you all the stuff you need to know and leaves out most of the fluff that you would get from a regular junior college or university.

I used to work package delivery for a vegetable delivery place. Loved that job, would still be there if the pay wasn't abysmal. Its such a breath of fresh air if you've been working a job where you have to deal with people all day long.
It sparked my love of driving, and inspired me to get a class B CDL, and then a class A.
    Now I'm an OTR trucker.

Very accurate. I work as a driver assistant with UPS just for the holiday season, which means I don't get a truck but a dolly I have to push around the city with packages up to my chin. About 95% of interactions with people are good but there are definitely some things that irritate you, like when they don't put the number for the apartment suite or having to wait for the elevator which most are always under maintenance.
I don't know why but a pet peeve for me is when I hand them a package and they look at it like they have no idea what it is, and ask: "Where is it from?" Or "Who is it for?" Like, you're the one who ordered it. What do you think, genius?
