Vapid teens making millions of dollars a year cranking out garbage lyrics, electronic sounds (not music) and singing half naked. Yes, it’s all backwards. America has been dumbed down. True art is struggling to survive. Thanks for all that you do Jimmy in keeping it real and honest. Your musicianship is impeccable.

The masscult has always been this way -- the fact that its mindless is its allure. Kind of Blue came out in 59 and Miles is no where to be seen on the Billboard top 100 for that year. This idea that it is only just now bad speaks far more to one's inability to find the brilliant contemporary music that is being made. There's more music out there than ever, and its constantly getting better -- you just need to turn off the radio.

    Hey Jimmy!
..this is a little off subject. I thought of sending you a text message on your phone but thought better of it..
My wife Renee and I are big fans of you- I am the guy who has commented on your videos before regarding Johnny as I am from Colorado Springs..not that it matters..but we've spoken on here before.
..you have mentioned "Facefuck' lately..we are not friends on facebook because you have reached your 5000 friend limit and that's that..so I can't share this "post" on your facefuck page..so here I am.
    Anyway-
My wife is (was) a follower of a page on facebook called "Lucid Jazz Fusion"( I know that you are not a fusion fan but we are just punk kids and still enjoy all the loud stuff sometimes! LOL) She turned me on to the page because they were taking requests last night. She placed her request last night and they played it..fair enough! (The requests apparently don't have to be "fusion" necessarily by the way is how I understand it) Interesting that you are talking about "Spain" and Chick "G". right now as I watch your video! LOL
So a half hour ago here in the Mountain Time Zone my wife tunes into the "Lucid" page on FaceFuck and they are playing an Allan Holdsworth show..now believing that she can add a request like she did last night, she asks for you! Jimmy Bruno!
She wants to see a clip of you playing on the "Lucid" page.
    They reply
    "Renee you need to leave"
    What The Fuck?
    I reply to the post-
    "Renee is my wife.
Why does she need to leave?"
..and the prick BLOCKS us both!
All she wanted was to hear you Jimmy.
I posted the whole thing on my "facefuck" page (Jason Curtis) complete with a picture of the exchange between me and this "Fusion Expert"
The funniest thing is that Allan Holdsworth was a fan of you and your playing..if this asshole "fusion expert" ever knew this, he might have had more respect for my wife..more respect for Holdsworth's memory..and more respect for you Jimmy. My greatest modern guitar hero.
There's a part of me that says "fuck it-who cares"..but No! I gotta tell you about this!
    ..what a prick!
"Lucid Jazz Fusion" he calls himself.
By the way-always loved "Emily" especially the version you did with Joe Beck..I bought that CD back in 2000!
    We love you Jimmy
    jase

Hey Jimmy. I watch just about all of your daily videos and practice a lot of the tunes you mention. I have to tell you this was one of my favorite of your videos. Love your playing of Emily. I'm gonna learn it and play it for my next gig. Keep it up. You're ultra-inspiring. Hope to run into you some day. Take care.

Sounds like brand new strings to me, Lol. Glad you like the change. The action must really be good with the .014/.018 through .056 Roundwounds on that Ibanez. No neck movement at all is a plus. Guitar strings really sound their best when the neck relief is minimal from the nut to the twelfth fret and all points in between. Well, at least, they do to me, anyway, ...as long as they don’t rattle or buzz. Imagine trying to play a heavy set of strings like that on an acoustic guitar three quarters of an inch away from the fret board. Anyway, you’re a cool dude, Jimmie Bruno, no matter what kind of strings you use. You can still play your ass off.

Jimmy - I think the best thing about Christmas is its magic for the children. Funny story. I had a brilliant cousin who was a grad of Harvard (admitted at 16) and Harvard Medical School. When he was just a little boy, like many of us he visited with the Santa in a department store, sitting on his lap. Santa asked him what he wanted for Christmas. My cousin who was about five, looked up at him and said, "JC! I just told you the other day! You forgot already?"

I came to musical consciousness in the mid-70s, so when people talked about jazz, it was Weather Report, John McLaughlin, RTF, JLP, etc, "fusion-y" sort of stuff. So you'd hear people talk about Miles Davis and late 60s stuff out of context of what happened in the 40s and 50s, it was like... man, I don't really like this "jazz" stuff at all. Very good players, but very .... unlistenable. Occasionally, on TV, you'd see an aged Dizzy Gillespie doing stuff, and it's like, "oh, what's this bop goodness?" But in the whitebread midwest, there was no good way to explore it further. Record stores where basically head shops playing Pink Floyd.
There really wasn't much in the way of accessible jazz that you could lay your hands on if you didn't know where to look or have someone to guide you-or hang out with old people. Even the old movies, were all sort of Doris Day and neutered for TV. So it was years, until the internet really, that you could-or at least *I* could- discover Duke Ellington properly, and all the evolution from New Orleans to big bands, bebop, and smooth coolness. I was stuck firmly in hard rock until I could get that exposure. Occasionally there'd be some crossover, like "Girl From Ipanema" with that sweet Stan Getz tenor, playing on my grandparents radio... but who knew that was even jazz?!
Fortunately, there have been teachers all along and recording and camera technology has saved many important performances of the "old guys", BEFORE they died, good stuff that we can all discover on the internet--and by old, I mean the generations before Jimmy. He may go off like a cranky old honey badger, but he's a fairly young guy!
    And to wrap up, I'm sure anyone who has watched this channel has googled him, but just in case you haven't seen it, there is an MI "Throwback Thursday" video of him, and you might think, is this the same guy? It is, and he's a good patient teacher. And he knows how to filter himself when the situation calls for it, indeed, like many Italians I worked with over the years.... Y'know, I used to work with this fuckin' guy once .... {insert long story about ...}

Jimmy is a good teacher. This particular channel is kind of wild which is okay. And you’re right, Jimmy isn’t that old. He’s only 2 or 3 years older than Eddie Van Halen for example.
And I’d guess that Duke Ellington would make the unassailable list. Dizzy too.

Kinda what I've been doin', pick up on a melody (or make one), and try chords. Probably, those chords are ending up on the long notes without me realizing it.

It's like Bill Nye vs some acclaimed scientist being the host of a TV show. The majority of the general public aren't educated about music. I mean, people say that music is the universal language, but science is basically taking the fabric of the universe and translating it into terms that we can understand. What could be more universal than science? Both are very interesting and important things, but when presented in a very advanced and detailed way, it is taxing, and most people will not stick around for the ride. I mean, a lot of people are miserable in their personal lives; a lot of times due to problems caused by their own doing. If they aren't observant enough of something as important and personal as this, how could they possibly be able to observe all of the complex and carefully crafted emotional content that more (idk what to call it) "advanced" music presents? People just wanna have fun and live a comfortable relaxed life. And there's nothing terrible about that. It just sucks that people can be so closed minded and not want to strive for a greater, more in depth and enriching understanding of things.

I got some good news Jimmy. After watching a StewMac TH-cam video, I realized that some of the frets on my Emperor Regent are just popped. And, it doesn't need a whole fret leveling job. Which, involves filing, crowning, and polishing. I'm gonna order what I need to re-glue and clamp them back down. So, that means by the time your True Fire course is available, I'll be able to learn some good shit.

well, you got that right! Backwards! My take on it! the general population want a ''show'' with bells and whistles, entertainment ''industry''! They aren't there to appreciate musicality! Nothing worse than playing a venue where people talk over you performing a hitting solo! and being granted with meagre applause lasting all of 4 seconds! or the owner of the joint looking at you like it pains him to pay you! I once walked into a music store as a young teen, all bright-eyed, and an older man heard me playing said your really good kid! I obviously wanted to be a ''star'' practicing all the time! Well, he told me, ''I was on tour until I was thirty'', he had played with many big names as the hired gun. he continued to say I went back to school and got a degree in administration! Well, at the time I brushed it off! These days! however, being older and wiser/ screwed over more! I tell myself, I should have got a degree in administration! Hey! But I can play! Happy holidays! Nah! Merry Christmas! Jimmy!
