The AC6000 is a 6,000 horsepower diesel electric locomotive built by GE between 1995 and 2001. It's among the world's most powerful single-engined diesel locomotives. The engine was designed for extremely high horsepower needs, such as pulling heavy coal and ore trains. Most examples were purchased by 2 railroads: Union Pacific and CSX.
Great review my son purchased one for me last Christmas and I love it. The only problem that I have had was a crack between the exhaust stacks from the heat of the stacks it was repaired under warranty Keep your videos coming.
I love this engine. I would love to have the Western Maryland CSX Heritage. I for one like the glossy paint job on the WM. To me it actually looks like it was fresh from the paint shop.
They still run on AC power just like the old trains. They use a DC motor, but the track power is still AC. The AC is simply converted to DC in the engine for use on the motors.
Jeez, if I traded N scale for O, I wouldn't have to have a gym membership. I would be getting a workout just by lifting those locos up!!! Thanks for sharing

I finely got the Lionel union Pacific ac6000 3 days ago. It's a little damaged but I'm the guy that fix trains. It runs great tho but the smoke unit sounds very bad it doesn't sound like it is working properly. I will make a video of it so you can watch it to see what's the matter with it. Thanks.

I have something similar, I have the Santa Fe locomotive #607 it does have a horn & smoke unit, the horn sounds pretty good, different from yours, it is the same paint scheme though, I like it
@starscreammtfan An AC600CW has 2 main differences. First off, it is an AC unit, while the Dash 9 is a DC unit. Second, the AC6000 has 6000 horsepower to compete with EMD, which made the SD90MAC a few months earlier. The Dash 9 has the standard 4300 horsepower, which is more reilable than the 6000 horsepower engine in the AC6000.
Awesome review Eric!!!!! The Lionel AC6000 is certainly a beautiful engine and sounds great too! .... And while I like Lionel's "true smoke" found on their ES44AC's some guys wanted more smoke and I guess Lionel was listening because the new AC6000 appears to be a great smoker! @santoro2020 Most engines come in a variety of roadnames, so I'm usually not as concerned with the roadname as I am with the type of engine I'm reviewing. Thanks for the suggestion, though!
@Railroadtrip445 MTH has been repeating sounds on their locomotives for years. I don't have a big problem with it as long as they mix it up every now and then.
@byates59 The horn on the AC6000 is not my favorite horn ever, but that's just my opinion. It is a little on the soft side. I haven't heard anything about Railsounds Lite. That's really weird.
@litvak54 I'm not an expert on horns. To me, as long as I like it that's all that matters to me. Some people get all wrapped up in having a horn that's totally accurate, but I don't really care as long as it sounds good.
Hey Eric, I just purchased the CSX, B&O Heritage version of the AC6000. While it is a beautiful engine and works perfectly, the horn is not nearly as loud as the rest of my Legacy diesels. I called Lionel customer service and spoke to Scott ( he is a tech ) and he said that these new AC6000's do not have railsounds 5, but have railsounds "lite" (not sure of the spelling). Anyways, I was wondering if your horn is weak as well? Thanks for your reply in advance bro and have a great one!
Hey Eric, another awesome review, in your opinion do you think this engine and one of the new Vision Line ES44AC's are about equal in detail and performance? The only differences I see is mainly the fixed pilot...Since they seem so similar, I'm wondering why this engine is $300 cheaper than a new VL ES44

The warbonnets are the classic Santa Fe's I've only seen an AC6000 like this and the almost well known FP45
But the AC6000 I saw was beautifully weathered.

That's a good thing, (that it is quiet) because the bell on my ES44AC makes my own ears ring, and you can hear the horn from a mile away.
