Windows 10 - How to Boot to Safe Mode

- This video shows how to boot safe mode on Windows 10. It also shows how to enable safe mode on Windows 10.
Make sure you run the Command Prompt as an administrator
To enable booting to Safe Mode by tapping F8 repeatedly, copy this code into the Command Prompt
bcdedit /set {default} bootmenupolicy legacy
To go back to normal Windows 10 booting settings, copy this code to the Command Prompt
bcdedit /set {default} bootmenupolicy standard

IF you have a HP turn it off, hold down the esc. key before turning the laptop on and hold down the esc key. The safe mode will pop up select F9 to boot from the usb then follow directions for lazersoft.

but how do you boot from bios not from within windows.

Where is restart? My computer is stuck on an endless reboot after the update.
HumbleCarMods, Your normal restart is located in the lower left corner with your start button and all your programs. I have had this dreaded endless reboot loop since the middle of Dec when the update was forced. My laptop has never restarted on it's own unless I clicked to restart it myself. I have been searching since. No luck until today. I hope this link shows up here for you. I just tried option one and I'm praying and crossing my fingers. Sounds like the update checked the box for automatically restart. As per the instructions, you have to go into safe mode to uncheck it. I couldn't get into safe mode. This guys video helped me get into safe mode. How he talked was of no concern to me if he knew how to teach me to get inot safe mode since F8 does not work on Windows 10. I'll know if it does or doesn't. This is the first Windows I've ever had that you can't go into safe mode using F8 or F12 (or whatever yours may be since they all vary from brand to brand. So many try this option dealt with registry files and I just don't want to experiment with that yet. I was so mad at my computer I wanted to throw it. I would start it up, go into Chrome and it would lock up. I've lost important tabs to important sites. Had to go through my history to find them again. I pray this fixes it now that that box for automatically restart is unchecked.

i had someone create another user name and i accessed that way. he was a techie, and somehow created the alternative username , i do not know how. i can find out if you like.

I don't have the option "startup settings"and the F8 thing does not work...
I have tried to enable the F8 key via the command prompt by typing bcdedit /set{default} bootmenupolicy legacy but i got a message :"the boot configuration data store could not be opened. The requested system device cannot be found".

But what to do when your upgraded laptop chrashes every time on the logon screen of W10. I can't even get to the settings you showed. I'm pretty sure I've a problem with a videocard driver so I've to get into save mode to try to install another driver.

Try accessing Safe Mode by pressing "Shift+F8"
If that doesn't work, you may have to reinstall Windows 10 on a USB Flash Drive.

+Techddictive Also I'm not sure if Windows 7 says I'm ready to go for W10 , that is really so. First I found out you need 10 times more free space as what they say during set up , and second I don't see any support from the HP website for my drivers in W10, so likely HP doesn't support , but Windows says I'm ready to go.

Hey idk how but the screen just start like normal
I turn off the monitor and later i disconecct all the usb ports but only with the cable from the monitor to the computer i reset and turn on the monitor and it works fine again
