I can’t stand that Nexus Mods is one of the better sites for uploading mods. Everyone has this “if you don’t like it, don’t download it” mentality with mods UNTIL it goes against the Left. So hypocritical.
I find it hard to believe they sustain themselves purely from adverts and premium memberships... their storage fees must be very high. Where is the money coming from?
Look up the other mod sites like the lab. All kinds of unusual mods get hosted there. I barely even look at nexus these days, always go to moddb or the lab first.
I agree with you. But this only get's fixed if people stop using Nexus... and it won't get fixed because people keep using Nexus. I want to play more modded skyrim and fallout 4 these pasts 6 months, but I can't because it means using Nexus (the really big mods and the overhaul/total conversion mods are not on the other mods sites). It's very annoying watching ytubers and commenters blast the w0ke, but will continue to use Nexus.

Nexus mods is just like games journalism. They have a sturdy buffer protecting them from consequences. But every buffer have a threshold, and just like games journalism, nexus mods will reach its buffer threshold.
.. and then the buffers will overflow, and they won't like that. They'll blame the people who told them not to do it, or reported on it, just like grooming gangs. Same people, same mentality.

I suspect the issue with Nexus Mods is that its probably the first thing that pops up in a search. You can dig and dig but it generally leads back to a Nexus Mods download. Maybe it's available somewhere but most gamers don't want to spend hours looking for a mod and if there are erstwhile competitors out there I didn't find them when I was looking for something.
they already censor tons of shit like american flag in spider man, and the mod to restore it got removed. then their the hogwart mod that both makes skins darker and very white got banned as well.
ModDB is pretty good. Sadly, Schaken Mods requires you to pay for anything past a certain number of daily downloads. Several mod authors host their own these days as well.
Of course it's the first that pops up. And why wouldn't it? Nexus have 500x more mods on their site than all alternatives combined. The problem isn't that people choose nexus over alts. The problem is that Nexus HAVE mods that people actually want to install, while alts don't. Can you name me ONE alternate website that have something like Buffout 4 for Fallout 4 hosted? Or SkyUI? or MCM for New Vegas? All pretty much quintessential mods that no loadorder is without. You probably can't that THAT's the problem here. Majority of people simply have no reason to go to alts because they already have what they need on nexus and then some. If alts want to actually succeed they need to start hosting mods that majority of people actually want to install.
Note it's not just because it's trump but because it is neutral/positive about trump. If this were a mod that made the man a grapey unhinged literal rat (rumps presidential race for fallout new Vegas) then not only was it allowed but nexus moderators actively promoted it back in 2020. Their standard is explicitly that only mockery and slander against the man is allowed.
And its so hypocritical too because HE IS THE AMERICAN PRESIDENT. He is literally the captain of America IN REAL LIFE. Not being able to have and American president (one who won by a landslide and is widely supported by the majority of american people) in a captain america suit is, ironically, not something even remotely political. Its literally just a FACT.
I believe it already exists but it's barred from the new uptades, since some mods seen to trigger bans for now, can't say if it still does since I don't read the updates tho

Well, incase of Nexusmods its probably because its only popular mod manager. New mod manager would have really hard time competing: 1. They need to find way to monetise. 2. They need site, mod manager. 3. They need to lure all modders over and then users over. It becomes chicken and egg problem - modders dont want to waste time on site that noone uses, users dont want to use site that has no mods. So barrier to entry is high.
Monetization is the big one. Even if they run with 0 profit, they still have to lease servers. Payment processers will shut that down in a hurry. This issue is a lot bigger than some 3D face swap.

To be fair, this was a long time ago, and these days I’d have more internet resources to learn in advance.
The brand thing is about the quality being consistent for the most part, so we know what to expect. You go to some random restaurant in a foreign country and you might get food poisoning. Probably not, but there is a chance and we don't know what the quality control is. You also have the potential to get a much better experience than at Mcdonalds, so it's a risk reward calculation. For something like Nexus Mod, we know it exists and it will probably have the mod we want, and iirc it's the first thing that comes up in a search. I personally don't visit it anymore, because I despise how censorious they are, but most people are normies who don't pay attention to this stuff
The origins here don't matter in the grand context, because most of these changes, while planned out in Europe, were mainly done in America first due to the way the country exports its culture. It's the perfect host, and while of course all countries should be responsible for getting rid of wokeness, America will likely have to lead the charge. American culture needs to be fixed, regardless if the issue "technically" originated from elsewhere.

Midwestern American here. Not all Americans are obsessed with brands, but up until recently it was a high-trust society. Therefore brand reputation was valued and trusted. That's not to say Americans trust big corporations. It's just that a brand or a trademark had value, and customers would trust that the owners and operators of a product or service would safeguard their brand by ensuring the quality was at a level those customers had come to expect. I see that attitude changing in the US as more and more companies violate that trust. It started a bit in the 90s with free trade agreements and off-shoring, but it really kicked off with the 2008 crash, and I think it's accelerating as Private Equity firms gobble up more businesses. This effect I think also is migrating through the culture and the economy on an industry by industry basis, so it's not all happening at once.
I'll second this from the post apocalyptic west coast (California) in general people used to put trust in comapnies that had big names and reputations. Now the common reaction is 'the bigger the less trustworthy'.
Remember customer service? I asked a cashier for change and they told me I was making them uncomfortable for asking. The bagger had to calm down the cashier and I said never mind. That math used to be part of hiring. Used to. Until they say it never was or something.

because people support the mainstream no matter what. yesterday while mentioning that i am making manga keeping the traditional spirit, people still told me they'd rather go for mainstream no matter what. and when censorship, "inclusivity", "equity" comes, they complain and wonder why things are stagnated. i saw Dragon Ball becoming a children's franchise, and everyone cellebrated it. things can go to hell for all that i care. and if some day someone gives me the chance even to fail, i'm still here.
Wait. has Dragon ball always been for children/young men from the start since it's a shonen series? But still, those people are blind consumers who will consume anything as long it's popular. Those types tend to also be fair weather "tourist" who are not true fans of anything and only like things because it's popular and trendy. They're glorified "hipsters". As of now, there's alot if "tourist" with in anime/manga and gaming right now since they're real popular at the moment.
You’re acting like people won’t support you but your channel doesn’t have your artwork on it. Self promotion is a thing, if you don’t push your project who do you expect to do that. The problem with “modern” studios is they act like they can’t make something without being funded. Just make things and people WILL absolutely show up. Don’t talk trash on “people” for not supporting you just because they aren’t funding you without seeing the product ahead of time. You absolutely Have to make a name for yourself. You must have some sort of reputation as being a strong artist who is capable of making something on a deadline despite being in a bad position.. otherwise people will not trust that you will actually do something with the money. Demonstrating a work ethic is the most important thing for an artist. I see Indy projects in animation make a ton of money just on adds on TH-cam. Make a video reel of your first issue of a graphic novel and you will be successful. Acting like a child who wants his parents to pay for a personal dream project without having prof of being able to work to completion makes you look like the forementioned child. You must put work into something when you have spare time even when you feel like you put too much into surviving because making art for a living is mostly unprofitable anyway, and you will likely still be overworked and need to do more than most salaried managers do for there work without the net of having a boss making sure they are being productive. You must be able to be productive without having anyone paying attention or making sure you are progressing because an independent artist must be self motivated. Proving you are motivated by the drive to complete something is step number one. There are enough artists already making things without being funded that are going to get support from patrons, they don’t have any need of new people to support that are already doing things. Nobody is going to fund something based on you selling them a pitch when people who have a product already in pipeline are asking for support. Don’t be bitter be excited about what you’re passionate about. Looking for support having previously done nothing worthy of support and then complaining when you don’t get it will only paint you as someone lacking the social skills to be worthy of being befriended.

Nah, bad argument. The Nexus Mods issue is the same one as with TH-cam, creators post on TH-cam because it's where all the viewers are and it's easy to use, and viewers come to TH-cam because it's where all the content is and it's easy to use. The blame is laid on both parties equally, and on the competitors for having an inferior product. Also people trusting brands it the designed purpose of having a brand. A brand is a shortcut for people to know what kind of quality the product is before purchasing, it makes sense to trust a known brand when you are familiar with their quality over an unknown product of which you have no indication of it's quality.
Regarding Mc Donald's the answer is different. It is safe. It is not the cheapest, it is certainly not the best, however it is a known quality. It is safe. You won't get food poisoning and you know exactly what you will get. The fear of the unknown may be the biggest ally of Mc Donald's everywhere. Without it, the franchise wouldn't survive.
Nexus Mods has the benefit of word of mouth and convenience. It's just easier for people to use it and put up with their crap than look elsewhere. That gives them a huge advantage.
As an American, I can say the brand thing is because its familiar to us in a unfamiliar place. As for Nexus mods, that is NOT normal to us Americans. Well, I'm sure the far left people think its okay but those of us in the middle and the people on the right don't think its sane.
Brand loyalty died a long time ago in America if you live outside the big cities. Why? Well the big brands don't feel like it's worth it to expand outside cities. Pepsi will have huge cross promotional events with Mountain Dew and World of Warcraft. Where you can get points for drinking soda but I won't see that in stores. It might trickle into a local convenience store with a handful of bottles that have a code but once it's sold out it never restocks. Cause the brands don't give a flying duck about those not living in cities. I'll buy the cheaper easier option every single time, brand be damned.
I dont really understand why this needed to be banned. It's not like it's the most offensive thing ever. I know people have TDS, but that doesn't mean this should be banned.

There is "brand trust" that takes takes awhile to destroy. But when it does(like Budweiser) it's never going to recover. It's a result of having a million options and being able to quickly pick out what is probably the best around unless you are willing to try different things, and you know people are not willing to try different things.
Vee: "Why do you put things on the brand name website? t's weird, it's American, it's a sociological disorder." Also Vee: "Here's why people put things on the brand name website."

The issue is that Nexus has no competitor. I know that there exists other mod repositories but they don't come close to the quantity that Nexus has, they even have their own mod manager. It's similar to the Autodesk situation, everyone hates said company but for a long time there wasn't really any software that could do what Maya did so folk had to _tolerate_ their crap and while Blender did exist it didn't saw massive use until it's 2.8 update in which it was on par with Maya and arguably surpassed it and ever since Autodesk has lost tons of users. So Nexus will continue to dominate the _mod hosting market_ until it's Blender equivalent is a thing or if there's even gonna be one. In the meantime the only two options is either not visit their site, which virtually means no modding or visit it with ad-blockers enable so at least they don't get said revenue.
They need to be VERY FREAKING CAREFUL because once a competitor comes around that can actually overthrown them, because of Nexus Mod's behavior they won't be able to make a come back. They are getting their only source of Content and Clicks very mad, the Modders
I don't see how an American going to McDonalds when they go to a foreign country as a "brand loyalty" thing. Anyone that goes to another country for a long time is going to start missing home and wanting food they're used to. If I moved to Japan and ate ramen, rice, etc. all the time, I'm sure I'd enjoy it, but I'd eventually start craving something familiar like a big mac once in a while. It's perfectly normal.
Nexus can be demolished. It just takes enough people putting a full block on their revenue sources. And people should also start mass spreading every mod in there to Alts and Seeders. At this point, the more feasible way to dislodge Nexus from the spotlight is to push from all possible angles. First and easiest is to deny any possible revenue Nexus can get of whoever downloads mods from them, and make it widespread enough to force their hand (They start thightening shit to force money to come, they will cut more and more of the userbase with forcing people to do shit they dislike, if they avoud that, then they keep bleeding). Next is to give Modders the western Game dev treatment, "Stick, stick, stick, only the Stick" - a CC focused on entertainment, westerns in general. They put mod on Nexus only? Get it then made it widespread to both Alts and Torrents. If they cry, laugh at them. Make publishing Mods on Nexus nothing but a demoralizing experience no matter what, until they change their main platform for publishing Mods. There's more "unique" ways to get Nexus to collapse faster, but those are full blown "Reasonable men forced to do the Unreasonable". They will work, but are the very type of action those deranged whackos would do to attack their enemy.

I dont use nexus mods, i never even heard of it until the spider man pride flag controversy. I used Curse when I played wow. Also basedmods has all the banned nexus mods.
Part of the issue is that there needs to be an alternative that offers more than what Nexus has. Based Mods doesn't really do that outside of hosting some mods that got taken down at the nexus. A lot of alt-tech falls into the trap of providing the same thing and expecting people to migrate. The Mcdonalds shit is because there are apparently big menu changes between America and other countries. You always hear about it in America. Personally, I would not tell the difference between McDonalds France and USA. People are also way too set in their ways. Boomers and Gen-X especially, who literally look for any excuse to consume big brand shit (see the fake roll back of leftists products at Walmart). You see it less with younger people, but that might just be an age thing.
Nexus have no competition. Period. Yes you can bring up sites like Based Mods, modsdb, game banana, loverslab. Literally anything you want and not a single one of those will have a selection like nexus does. Hell, they won't even have the tiniest of fraction of mods that Nexus have. If i want to install a new gun to my Fallout 4, i'll go on Nexus and there will be 5 or more different versions of that gun from 5 different authors for me to choose. I want to add a specific armor to Skyrim? You bet there's probably multiple of those on nexus. Quest mods? You got it. Overhauls. You betcha. Texture and model swaps? Need you even ask? Bugfixes and patches? Guaranteed. Meanwhile, if I go to any other website for these mods i'd be lucky to find ONE and it'll likely be old, outdated and probably cause my game to crash.

4:30 people on nexus mods get paid basically nothing (its pennies from ads). People in general also dont want to pay money for mods so all mods on nexus mods are for free and people dont pay for patreon and subscribestar to get mods. Bethesda back in the day got backlash for offering paid mods. Nexus mods is just popular because it used to offer more convienient service than other sites. They have their own mod manager that makes installing mods easier. Also people will put their mods where there are more ppl.
The dilemma I ended up in was so many of the games I wanted to get mods for, frequently were and some still are, exclusively hosted on nexus or had been hosted/linked through forums that have long since disappeared or taken down. I used to find a lot on ModDB years ago and was especially good for fun and weird Medieval II or Mount and Blade modules, but mostly had to search nexus for more options in other games I was playing and (in my opinion) a better screenshot viewing experience. I don't remember exactly when I decided to stop using nexus, but it was certainly influenced by the increased take-down of otherwise innocuous or easily ignorable/dismissable mods. But I guess therein lies a crux of it: nothing is innocuous any more, no slight whether perceived or minor can be ignored or dismissed. "Everything is political, everything is sexist" and I'm just so goddamn sick of it. How I may or may not want to modify my mostly single-player game experiences should have the same zero-effect on your life as yours does on mine, yet here we are. Have a nice day. Or don't. I can't tell you what to do.
Vee, think about it for a second. We eat McDonalds abroad to see how the menu/quality differs, it's an experiment of sorts and there are meme's about it.

Well, incase of Nexusmods its probably because its only popular mod manager. New mod manager would have really hard time competing:

I'd say in the US McDonalds is one of the least safe options, and the risk of catching a disease is higher than say a McDonalds in Japan.
I'm waiting for the Shadows launch where all the mods that model swap out a certain character get banned instantly.

We aren’t like the left trying to bully the public into thinking like us. Plenty of people stopped using nexus mods in he USA. Also vee said I will give you an alternative idea because I love Americans and then just skipped over the solution, because no one will listen.
Literally the first time in years I have disagreed with him on something I am kinda in shock.
There is "brand trust" that takes takes awhile to destroy. But when it does(like Budweiser) it's never going to recover. It's a result of having a million options and being able to quickly pick out what is probably the best around unless you are willing to try different things, and you know people are not willing to try different things.
NexusMods won't stop "winning" or "whining"?

Isn't the nexus based out of the uk?
As an American, I'm right there with you
Make the site, Roman.
there is already a site that hosts the "censured" mods, but I forgot the name.
But couldn't they post example this Mod (and advertise it ) on X for example ? 🤔🤔
I mean post the link for it , etc
This is why I love that I got permanent membership thr day before they removed the service
No hate brother i enjoy your content but your voice matches PERFECTLY to the little goblin thing
This is like Walmart CEO deciding he doesn't like how tomatoes taste, so he bans them in every store around the country.
No Vee keep going hard on criticizing the western industry, it needs it. You’re spot on with your china takeover theory not sure why you’re backtracking a little bit on it?
a friend suggested degmods as an up and coming modsite. it's fairly new so not much on it, but trump cpt america just got added there so that's something
Mass Effect and Dragon Age were made in Canada.
I find it funny that anyone who sees Donald Trump mods has a problem, but if it was any other political figure then no one would have a problem. It just feels petty, and quite sad at this point.
People aren't going to NexusMods because of brand loyalty. They go to it for two simple reasons: Nexus Mods has some of the only mod managers, and Nexus Mods has very little competition.
I'll say it again, how, _HOW_ do these people manage to worm their way in to positions of authority and decision making for literally EVERYTHING? How are they allowed?
They are the HR managers, thats how
@@Morgomir09 Right but somebody _promoted_ these incompetents, and they did it a million times over for every franchise, property and business imaginable. _HOW?_
@@kerravon4159 ideological lockstep, the long march through the institutions
Ioseph Stalin was basically the HR manager for the Soviets at the time, how he took power
Also Vee, ModDB has been older and around longer than Nexus but because of UI and layout people get intimidated and go to Nexus
ModDB is just as pozzed.
GitHub is also technically an alternative but there is nothing remotely user friendly about that site (for better or worse).
Since Marvel Rivals is strongly, STRONGLY pro-ccp let's see how much it likes mods such as Winnie the Pooh
I'd love it if somebody just modded in a picture of Taiwan with freedom eagle on it or something like
Chinese things are basically required to be pro-CCP
Reminder: right after Trump won the first time in 2016, a mod removed their mod because.
Or was it when he announced his run?
Either way, this has been going on for years.
Recently went back to playing FNV after years and kept crashing as it needed a patch to update the memory addressing, tried to avoid nexus but in spite of quite a bit of searching it was the only place that seemed to have it.
Really hope the alternative sites grow to really compete.
already knew modding gonna fall into slippery slope when money start getting involved.
I used to be a premium subscriber until they removed that one spiderman mod named "light refracting object remover" or something like that, there was a public story about it. At that time I cancelled and deleted my account. Every time I want to play skyrim or fallout, I remind myself that i would need to go through nexus mods, and I lose interest again which sucks. Garbage site and their woke admins ruined one of the only parts of gaming I still enjoyed.
Edit the name of the mod was "Non-Newtonian new york" and it got rid of rainbow flags
By freedom of creativity I think any mod that doesn't directly affects someone should be allowed, even communist mods, now if it in some level or form it's criminal then should be banned, even if it opens to mods of influencers nudes in games
Same reason we have 60 dollar microsteansactions in Blizzard games, and paid early access in single player games, and content that is censored in remakes of older games.
...because players keep supporting it. As long as they keep getting away with it, nothing will change.
Vee could just ask Americans why they go to McDonalds instead of just assuming. McDonalds is consistant, your local questionable food stand isnt.
To this American brand names only mean marked up prices.
What's that saying? Something about if something isn't explicitly right wing will become left wing?
It is more like "When corporations take over, it will take on the semblance of the 'Left Wing'".
Romanian: grown up on yankee slop
Polish chad: grew up on reksio krecik, bolek i lolek and other local classics.
yea... Mass Effect is nice and all but duh.
and all of us grew up on DBZ, whats your point?
@@thegeth4293 usa produces slop and propaganda. dbz is great too.
If you lived in the 90s/2000s, you grew up on both in eastern Europe. Let's not act like Romania doesn't have it's own stuff or that Poland was immune from American media.
@@TheCynicalAutist poland isnt immune but vee sounds like romania didnt had its own media
What is stopping mod authors from uploading to multiple websites?
Google controls ads on the internet, as they have more than 80% of the market. Other places have tried to compete, but they don't get good ads rates and can't make money even if they get comparable traffic. Those that manage without ad revenue get shutdown by the server hosting company even if they do not violate ToS. It is an issue, and things seem to be making a turn.
You say this like America is the only country that buys and sells brands. The east has tons of brands from food to collectible products sold worldwide wide. If a hungry Korean sees a pack of buldak in a western store they’re probably going to get it because it’s familiar. Just like an American who would see a McDonalds in the east.
Vee... the reason murica'ns love macdonalds so much
Isn't really that they love macdonalds... but it's consistant "safe"
When u go to a fast food franchise u know what to expect
Maybe it's not great maybe not incredible but it's ok....
And when visiting diffrent countries trying ethnic foods
U never know what's good and what's horrible
What exotic ingridient u may be allergic to
Etc etc
So u know i suppose the question is about the type of tourist...
The kind that travels to diffrent countries for buisness meetings the kind that wishes to experiance diffrent cultures or idk the kind that "travels" by spending the entire day at the hotel/cruise and brags about visiting 50 countries or somthin...
Its alright man. As Americans, WE get tired of American culture too.
American here. I haven't bought enough games popular enough to have mods in several years to need any mods.
Elon Musk. Please buy Nexxus mods.
You have to plead to him in either Afrikaans or Xhosa.
If i have to download anything from Nexus i just don't. Id rather ball vanilla.
Vee, think about it for a second. We eat McDonalds abroad to see how the menu/quality differs, it's an experiment of sorts and there are meme's about it. Tarantino's 'Royal With Cheese' Burger King reference. Weird Asian McDonalds menus, Aussie KFC, etc.
Of course people (women) are going to buy name brand shit at overpriced Romanian outlets or w/e, that's kinda the point of going to Eastern Europe, the dollar goes further. For them it's still a deal.
