@@Gorbachof We're getting more and more copy pasted slop. Everything now is just like cod. Copy and pasted with nothing new except cosmetics. And people buy this slop up so more and more of it is made. Voting with your wallet doesn't work, micro transactions always make too much for companies to swear them off. A big issue is that all of these companies bow down to money hungry investors who already have too much. Causing companies to pump too much money in and need wayyy too much to even break even. Have ballooned budgets given us better games? No. Instead we get companies selling good numbers but still getting shut down because they didn't meet expectations.

It's Warhammer, being out of date is kind of the point. There's a reason why the Imperial Guard's Leman Russ MBT is based on WWI designs, or why Space Marines uses swords and shields to defeat their enemies, being antiquated is what makes It unique.

It’s literally how gaming was in the early 2000s it’s not overly monetized and doesn’t feel like a cash grab. That's where we are now with video games. The people who rang the alarm 15-20 years ago on this were entirely right. The new generation of gamers have been groomed, and they dont just see a game constantly reaching in their pocket as normal now. They see it as a positive thing. you have an entire generation of gamers who grew up with live service games. They expect that when they buy a game the game grows, adds content fast to keep a playerbase strong. Thing is as we all know this leads to many games failing of focusing on mp only. So when a game that comes out like sm2, that uses older business model from say the early 2000s, these people get confused why the games not adding new content every few months and start to call it bad, or lacking content and the stupid " dead game" gets thrown around.. In my opinion, if thats what has to happen to actually get good games again, do it, and maybe we can create a new gen of gamers who dont expect every game to be some live service garbage.

These players and kids today have no idea how things were before battlepasses and loot boxs.

Considering the literal sea of WH games that have been kinda meh, arguably flops, and Games Workshop did nothing, i honestly think they care more about the fact that people actually like a game made in their franchise. Darktide wasn't as popular on release as Space Marine 2, nor was Warhammer Total War for that matter (that grew over time, partly because it's a less popular genre). Vermintide aswell was never super popular. Space Marine 2 is out of the gate the most popular Warhammer franchise game, probably ever made i wouldn't be surprised if this went more mainstream than Space Marine 1 considering gaming is more mainstream today than when that released.
As the franchise creator, and having already been paid the licensing fee, they can only win from it's popularity. They probably have dividends and some sort royalties on further sales, but they aren't the publisher either. They literally just rent out the IP, so even if they wanted to screw with the game, it's not like it would be massively beneficial for them. Also, to their credit, we have a huge range of completely different games made in the WH franchise, from third person action horde shooter to 4X and real-time strategy. MMOs and CRPGs. It is both a gift and a curse, but they have shown themselves willing to give what seems like total control to the developers.

This game was massively misunderstood for something its not.
When i saw the marketing and hype people were expecting this massive in depth long term engagement game youll grind forever and will keep your attention forever.
Instead its just space marine but sequel, a neat campaign, rudimentary multiplayer. But better, the melee is more engaging, the multiplayer also has proper coop missions (with horde on the way).
I expected that, im happy with the game (the campaign felt rushed and like it was missing a mission or two), the multiplayer is satisfactory. They did massively drop the ball on chaos customization, that part is a massive issue that shouldnt have happened.
You play it whenever you want a space marine power fantasy fix, people wanted destiny 2 but tps.

I'm a DRG player, DRG is also a premium game with a "live service" layout, but tons of content and things to do.
It has "seasons" with battle passes for each one, but each "season" is a year long and, as of the most recent season, you can also go back to any pass you missed and complete them, no FOMO.
(also note, before the update, any missed battle pass items could be found randomly in chests that appeared in missions so there was no fear of missing items to begin with).
Each season also adds new mission types, enemies, and goals for the player to do and all are permanent additions to the main game (the appearance of the missions though are lowered).
DRG also does have cosmetics, but the majority of them are free and can be found in-game and any paid ones are bought externally and simply there to support the game's ongoing build.
So I say, yes it may be boring to wait for new content, but it is always new gameplay and always worth it (except for septic spreaders).

GTAO is just a nice addition which could've been counted as a live-service, but, first, it's completely optional and, second, you totally can play it any time with barely missing anything and get all the content without paying at all. I think its worth mentioning the 'big winners' on selling a game with gameplay for money as a long term model, to remind investors that this can pay off big.
I remember picking up minecraft for less than 15 quid, and it had been cheaper before then. Its now selling for 30, and people don't mind paying that. I don't know if microsoft published their sales, but it isn't small potatoes, and thats before examining secondary payoffs like driving people to the microsoft store etc.
A relatively small amount of new stuff got made for minecraft by developers compared to a live service title each year, but each addition justifies a potential increase to the game's list price *because* the value proposition to the customer gets better.

Warframe has had a similar model for a decade, but nobody ever talks about it.
You have premium currency that you can spend on cosmetics. All other upgrades that can also be purchased can be earned in game provided you have finished the relevant story arc. The only thing that's sort of limited are slots for weapons and warframes, but even they can be earned in a season pass that appears 3 times a year... thats free, and also allows you to buy other goodies cosmetics and upgrades.
The kicker is, you can trade items for premium currency with other players, so if you don't have time you can buy an upgrade from another player that has farmed it. And that player can use it to unlock weapon / warframe slots or for cosmetics.
And all the content is free for all at the time it comes out. No paywalls. The only content gating is the requirement to have finished the previous content before moving on to the new content, for mechanical and story reasons.
Maybe have a look at their model. Share more positive / moral monetization strategies like Warhammer and Warframe.

The main issue people have is that the after spending real life money on the DLC packs you need to unlock the content you just bought with in game currency. The champion skin, while amazing, can't be customized. Which creates a problem when you want to do a successor chapter instead of the Founding chapter, same goes for the weapons.

For this game I don’t see it as much of an issue because 1.) its never leaving and optional based on what legion you are interested in 2.) it’s quick to unlock everything in the game as you progress, I mean it feels like that because I’ve already unlocked everything in base game within a month, and both DLC content heraldries as they came out. TBH my complaint with the game is the lack of content for multiplayer.
Also I assume the point of the champion pack skin and why you can’t customize is due to the lore of the armor on the skin dedicated to the class
