Dragons have got to be the most versatile creatures in history, whether they genuinely existed or just through pure imagination. Dragons are said to be a mix of different animal characteristics. And, they’ve also been depicted to be of different elements which the closest animal we have to this is a Chameleon. In the west, we see dragons as mighty scaly beasts with wings and fire breathing capabilities. Yet, asian cultures view these mighty creatures with a snake-like body with no wings. In certain Asian cultures, they also live underwater or deep in mountain caves. Dragons are just really awesome and diverse. They’re amazing
I just gotta love the Nordic tales. Except for one element they are always very inventive ! That one thing being Loki making some mess and then having to fix it
As somebody born in the Rhine area of Germany between the cities of Cologne and Bonn the legend of Siegfried and the dragon from the Nibellungen saga is a firmly established part of local culture and folklore. The mountain known as Drachenfels (dragon´s rock) is a popular destination for a day trip as it is said to be the place where the dragon used to live before it was slain.
I love this video! As an ardent admirer of dinosaurs, Filipino and Indian cultures and the Targaryen dynasty, I was hoping this video also covered their associations with dragons. Regardless, great job!
Theres an island on Isle of Wight called Dragon rock or something. Shaped like a petrified dragon. Game of Thrones is closer to history than you may think " In these lands upon which Giants used to road " - Abraham Lincoln
The ultimate apex predators are fiction! Technically Tiamat was the very first dragon and/or serpent in existence in mythology’s. Also you should’ve talked about the Aztec serpent god.
Dragons are my favorite mythical creatures. It's nice to hear some historic background, how dragons change over time and how different cultures saw them. Great work! Tolkien's Glaurung was a fire breather. Look in the Silmarillion to a Dagor Bragolach and Nirnaeth Arnoediad.
So if the Lernean Hydra had nine heads when Heracles went after it, it must have started out with an uneven number of heads and then grew more as people tried to slay it, right? I wonder how many heads it had when it originally hatched, just three?
I think that Ann McCaffrey's dragons from her best selling series Dragon Riders Of Pern. They are large, largest is 40 meters nose to tail, intelligent, beautiful, they fly, and they form a lifelong unbreakable mind to mind bond with 1 person. I wish that someone will make a live action movie based on her books.
In a fantasy novel I'm designing, dragons are like natural custodians. They leave their lairs only to destroy whatever thing is upsetting the environment. When they do this, their fiery breath (or other elemental power) reinvigorates and purifies the land to allow for new growth. Dragons are served by wyverns who hunt for them and protect their lairs. There's also a dragonic mortal race they've created called Draken, to which dragons often forge covenants with, allowing draken to access dragonic powers in exchange for letting the dragon perceive the mortal world through their eyes. I pride myself on emphasizing moral shades of grey in my writing, especially when it comes to relationships between people, cultures, and species. When it comes to dragons, I didn't want them to be inherently evil, while involving the whole dragons burning down villages thing. So, I had to create a reason as to why they'd do that. Essentially, I don't see people as inherent good vs inherent evil. It's more like contradicting and opposing needs and desires. Granted, yes, there are dragons who are evil. The idea is that good and evil can exist in individuals, not groups. As for the religious element, I can best put it this way. Gods are on the side of their followers. Except for a small few other races, that's mostly human. Dragons, though, favor nature. The conflict between the two is a representation of man vs nature.
Tolkien loved all of that Northern Mythology. So yes, as I heard you telling the story it did take me to him and the Hobbit. Dragon went through such a transformation across the ages.
Hmm is wider Germanic influence "northern"? I guess it depends on your perspective. Or there's a decent chance you're granting all of that to a set number of countries you particularly like, I guess

Ancient Egyptians sometimes believed that when there was a solar eclipse or a particularly cloudy day, Apep had temporarily won the battle against Ra and his task force of other really cool gods.
Still at the age of 30 I still love dragon they are so fierce yet mystical I think growing up the midevil dragons were my favorite but now as an adult I love the eastern depiction because of how beautiful and magical they can be also how terrifyingly powerful they were
Interestingly, Skyrim has a dragon priest named Volsung, and in their dragon language, Volsung means "horrible." Since a lot of the game's mythology and culture of the local people in it is norse-based, it's entirely possible that the priest was purposefully named after that story with Fafnir.

Hello. I really admire what you do, you are one of my favorite channels, and this video has helped me a lot to give me a few ideas about what I want to do on my own channel, where I will start to analyze and present different types of dragons and legends about these. Thank you so much for your hard work, it really lifts my spirit and helps inspire me.
So basically, the moral of Fafnir's story is that Loki will cause a mess (Otr's death) and when asked to clean up, he creates another mess? (Hreidmarr's death and Fafnir's whole affairs)
Looooved your video! First of, let me just say thank you so much about the acknowledgement that wyvern are a TYPE of dragon. Second of, an honorable mention for the least dragon-looking dragon, I emplore everyone to look up the tarrasque from before it was a DnD monster! It falls under the category of monster tamed/defeated by some kind of saint, as far as I recall, but my god a weird amalgamation of creatures! Enjoy your day people!
Wow you comeback again and I love it mythology and fiction explained return forever and I will be fan for like inspirational stories telling of mythology, history & fiction literature that is become desire for true legends. I always found it fascinating that different cultures separated by oceans and impassible expanses all managed to have mythical creatures like dragons and also giant hairy humanoids like Bigfoot. Even the indigenous people of Australia had the Yowie, similar to Sasquatch, even though they had never seen a monkey, gorilla, or other primates before…
I think there was a time when dragons that could fly and breath fire existed and they terrorized many villages or cities, until a righteous knight appeared and killed those dragons.
I frickin love dragons, as they are my favorite mythical beasts of old. Since they aren't real, I see salt water crocodiles as dragons of the river so that's why I love crocodiles as well, seeing them as a suitable representation of the real thing.
The story of a warrior killing a dragon with a spear is pagan in its origin, christianity just adapted it and put Saint George as a warrior. In Slavic mythology (and many others) there's a story of a God of Thunder killing a serpent/dragon with a spear/lightning. It's a story that explains the first thunderstorm, the beginning of spring and the ending of winter which the serpent/dragon represents. So in Slavic mythology that would be Perun killing Veles in a shape of a serpent
fun fact godzillah is a radioactive evil enigma that has to be destroyed so the gods send something like me look in the posts not saying i am ghidorah but likely his brother or nepheew or father, but was frozen right> ir si the mdoern movie said, but the classics are teh best, and King of monsters Ghidorah that shines brighter than an angels at each scale, had to destroy godzillah and he won, thenew version is pure failure upset many godzillah fans as was expected they;d work together to root out more and bigger evil than godzillah alone could handle in the new version the original scrippt but they went with dragon slaying instead. whilst if you look at the original godzillah vs gidhirah godzillah never stod a chance and besides neither with the help fro mothra, godzillah would've been defeated, the change in story made the movie confusing, retarded, and juust another dragonslayers show, like watching witches burning and their kids also.lower onthe stack so the mother could watch them die first. this world I mark it.... for extinction of the retarded species called humans and yses my human for is also retarded but less then anyone elses try beating an IQ of 162
"We love dragons!!! So fascinating. So interesting. So cool." St George: "Here's a pet dragon. Aint it wow? I'll behead it..... if you promise to go to church everyday." crowd: "Yeahhhhh!!!! " ** kills dragon ** ** builds church instead **
European dragons were originally giant snakes that, over the course of history, have added more and more characteristics until they become the winged, fire-breathing lizards (actually scaly wolves) that we all know. They even originally spit poison, which over time came to be interpreted as fire. In fact the word dragon comes from the Greco-Roman "Drakkon" or "Drako" which means "(Great) serpent".
You know, I actually have this theory that some guy from ancient times came across what we now know as dinosaur bones and that's where the myths and legends about dragons came from
These dragon stories are coming from the stars. They are pointing out Draco, the wings of are the Dippers, Ursa Major and Minor. In Ancient Egyptian religion, Taweret is Draco, her legs belong to a lion, her head and body are those of a hippopotamus and the tail of a crocodile trails behind her, something like the Chimera. Typhon was the father of the Chimera, and Typhon is the Thigh of the Ox Leg, which is Ursa Major. The Sumerian Ur means Dog, but also a wild beast, and the "sa" of Ursa, is seen in the hand of goddess Taweret. The Egyptians know Typhon as Set/Seth the god of Chaos, Set's thigh was then chained to the pole star, whereupon it became the Big Dipper (or as the Egyptians called it, “the Bull's Thigh”). Ursa minor was known as the Dog's Tail (Ur), our pole star today, 12,000 years ago it was the She Goat Star we call Vega, known as the Dog Headed Goddess Bau-Gula, mother of the dying and rising god of rebirth and healing "The Child" Damu, associated with the Swine star, the head and first coil of Draco. Seth/Set is found on the Thigh of Orion, seen as Osiris, but cut in half, upper part is Horus, below the belt is Seth, we call The Sword of Orion, the bright star at the tip of his sword, located on his thigh, Hatysa meaning Slaughter, in Hebrew 'haat' means "To Sin", 'yasa' means "savior", read backwards "Savior of Sinners". The Sword is not a sword, but where his Club once hung, cut from the Orion Nebula, a waterfall of Orion's blood, the same blood as Seth's, his brother. The Sumerian word Haya means Grain, he is the god of Scribes, known as the Door-Keeper, the offspring of Typhon and Echidna were Gate keepers, guarding the gate to the underworld. The Club of Orion carries the seed of Osiris, on the Day of the Summer Solstice, you find the Sun at the Tip of Orion's Club, the Sun takes the seed to the cave entrance, the 7 main stars of Ophiuchus, our hidden 13th sign, but on the day of the Winter Solstice, when the Sun Dies in sky for 3 days. On Dec. 21, the sun stops moving southward, pauses, and then starts moving northward, does this next to Spiculum meaning Spear, a little bloody red spot is Sagittarius, in astrology, Sagittarius is the Thigh, in mythology, Sagittarius is Pabilsag, the father of Damu and husband of the goddess Bau-Gula known as the first physician. Ophiuchus can be seen as a Mountain, a Cave Door, or even the Belly of the Goddess, her womb, as Scorpio is the sexual organ, Sagittarius the Hips & Thighs, squeezed in between is Ophiuchus, our 13th, as the club of Orion is the 14th missing part of Osiris, the two location of the Gold and Silver gates, Sagittarius stands at the center of our galaxy, where stars are born, they called gods and goddess. The Golden Gate of the Gods is Sagittarius, play the words "Say There Is A Guest" in reverse, you hear it echo "Sagittarius", The Silver Gate of Man is in Orion, play the words "They All Rule" in reverse to hear Orion is its echo, a little Dragon Speak, Gemini and Taurus is part of this gate, they speak too, "Say Oath" will echo "Taurus" and "Beyond The Mist" will echo "Gemini". Something a Gate-Keeper would know.
The red and white dragons mythology is used in an anime called high school dxd definitely not meant for children watch with caution. The light novel explains things in greater detail. Love the episode though

Aliens, banshees, centaurs, cyclopes, dwarves, fairies, genies, ghosts, giants, gnomes, krakens, leprechauns, merpeople, ogres, phoenixes, pixies, satyrs, trolls, wizards, zombies…

Type that in a search engine if ur ready for that kinda truth which anyone really is I feel like it’s a sin to hold this kind of knowledge back as it soon opens a whole new dimension and yearning for truth in life . Well... it's one thesis. We are not sure of its entirety. ~The Dragon Master~ Founder, The Dragon Society {Est. 1984}
This is the video I've been waiting for since I've been subbed 🥰🐉
I am truly obsessed with this channel
As a big fan of dragons
This video was much needed
Great Work! thanks
Love this channel man! Could you do one about Gilgamesh please? Preferably a lengthy one? 😊
He has returned.
YAAAAAASSSSSS, Dragons will never make me boring.
So basically, the moral of Fafnir's story is that Loki will cause a mess (Otr's death) and when asked to clean up, he creates another mess? (Hreidmarr's death and Fafnir's whole affairs)
Please make a video all about the mythical creature plus mythical race called Giants from before and now please

Broski brought me here
I always found it fascinating that different cultures separated by oceans and impassible expanses all managed to have mythical creatures like dragons and also giant hairy humanoids like Bigfoot.
Then they invented Wales or something.
Dragons are kind of my favorite mythical creature ❤❤🐉🐲
Yamta no Orochi is my favorite serpent.
I frickin love dragons, as they are my favorite mythical beasts of old. Since they aren't real, I see salt water crocodiles as dragons of the river so that's why I love crocodiles as well, seeing them as a suitable representation of the real thing.
Dragons are my favorite mythical creature. Full of magic and mystical powers.
Did hero.
Great Video thank you so much please keep up your missing Workspace save and live long and prosper
Personally my favorite Dragon will always be Ancalagon the Black from J.R.R. Tolkien's The Silmarillion
The fafnir one reminded me of magnus chase but eh
Great video.
Fun fact : Godzilla’s arch nemesis is a Three Headed Dragon from outer space.
fun fact godzillah is a radioactive evil enigma that has to be destroyed so the gods send something like me look in the posts not saying i am ghidorah but likely his brother or nepheew or father, but was frozen right> ir si the mdoern movie said, but the classics are teh best, and King of monsters Ghidorah that shines brighter than an angels at each scale, had to destroy godzillah and he won, thenew version is pure failure upset many godzillah fans as was expected they;d work together to root out more and bigger evil than godzillah alone could handle in the new version the original scrippt but they went with dragon slaying instead. whilst if you look at the original godzillah vs gidhirah godzillah never stod a chance and besides neither with the help fro mothra, godzillah would've been defeated, the change in story made the movie confusing, retarded, and juust another dragonslayers show, like watching witches burning and their kids also.lower onthe stack so the mother could watch them die first. this world I mark it.... for extinction of the retarded species called humans and yses my human for is also retarded but less then anyone elses try beating an IQ of 162
We call them dinosaurs today, they belong to the sea.
"We love dragons!!! So fascinating. So interesting. So cool."
St George: "Here's a pet dragon. Aint it wow? I'll behead it..... if you promise to go to church everyday."
crowd: "Yeahhhhh!!!! "
** kills dragon **
** builds church instead **
Love video
European dragons were originally giant snakes that, over the course of history, have added more and more characteristics until they become the winged, fire-breathing lizards (actually scaly wolves) that we all know.
They even originally spit poison, which over time came to be interpreted as fire.
In fact the word dragon comes from the Greco-Roman "Drakkon" or "Drako" which means "(Great) serpent".
Out of all the Fantastic hybrid humanoids and hybrid beasts, Dragons are easily my most favorite Deities or just a mortal race.
Dragons are so awesome 😎 and rad forever ♾️
Can you make a special about demons?
Just hearing about dragons and dinosaurs reminds me of my childhood. Pretending to be the hero who slays the beast and such. Haha 😅
You know, I actually have this theory that some guy from ancient times came across what we now know as dinosaur bones and that's where the myths and legends about dragons came from
Convenient for the “saint” to only show up when they are about to sacrifice the princess
Dragon - and proud of it ;)
What is it exactly these creatures are dragging , and where are they dragging it to ?

Bro how do you get your photos move like that I'm actually curious??
The red and white dragons mythology is used in an anime called high school dxd definitely not meant for children watch with caution. The light novel explains things in greater detail. Love the episode though
