This match gave me that 2019 nostalgia. Naomi was once again so close but this was such a good match overall. Bianca's defense was impeccable and she has barely played any matches this year, I think Bianca will be back to peak performance at the end of the year. Naomi is doing well but her nerves has been getting to her recently, She still has so much time. I am just happy players like Bianca and Naomi are playing!!
In theory, Osaka should be a superior grass player. Big serve. Flat strokes. What she lacks is good movement and variety. If she added slices and drop shots to her game, like Swiatek and Sabalenka, I think she’d be a bigger threat 😊
Yes, Bianca won from her variety in this match. Have to correct u there, Iga doesnt have variety, Sabalenka barely uses hers althought started at Rome. Iga doesnt seem bothered to add variety to her game, reminds me of Osaka in her prime. A contrast to Barty who really had to change things in order to start beating Kvitova and that is why she had slams on all surfaces yet Osaka and Iga are 'specialists'
There's one point where Andreescu hit an outrageous backhand pass (couldn't tell if it was a single handed one) but Osaka should have come in when she hit the forehand that dragged Andreescu wide on her forehand side and would have had an easy put away forehand volley into the open court. I'm surprised Osaka hasn't improved at the net - she still seems frightened of it!
True I wasn’t looking forward to Wimbledon with the big 3 out but the ladies side suddenly got interesting as there’s at least 7-8 girls who could win:Rybakina, Vondrousova, Sabalenka, Jabeur, Osaka, and then even Andrescu, Raducanu and low chance of Swiatek. Below them we even have Pliskova if she’s healthy.
Naomi and Bianca seem to be getting more "battle hardened" with each tournament since their return to tennis. If both players can remain healthy, I think Iga's perch atop the women's tennis rankings might get a little shakier.
Suddenly it feels like 2019 all over again, with major winners Andreescu and Osaka looking seriously game ready. Bianca turns 24 on Sunday (two days from today) and it is special to see her swinging passionately again. Osaka ready to challenge anybody it appears. And she will get stronger. Fun to watch!
Andreescu reads the game so well and her variety is a joy to watch. She does tend to make matches harder work than they ought to be though, which means she's more prone to injury than if she were more clinical.
Bianca was very close to letting her off the hook for the 2nd time in their meeting after being up 5-3 serving for the match and deciding to make it an adventure.
Bianca has the issue of not closing out matches. she has been struggling with that - last seas from a set and a break up she woud lose the match. maybe it will get better. however since 2019 she is a player who didnt win straightfoward, uncessary 3 sets. good on her for comping herself today
just like at the French, Osaka loses a close 3rd set, though this time she was down 5-2 in the third and came back to force the tiebreaker. She should carry a lot of confidence going into Wimbledon especially since grass is not her best surface.
Looks like Naomi had more points in this match against Andreescu AND had more than Swiatek in the French Open loss. Gotta be frustrating, but she really is playing well.

I never sleep the night before Bianca plays. Maybe 2 more to go. That’s all right. I can take it. All sources I found to predict the outcome of this match said Naomi in 2 sets. See, Osaka almost beating Iga at RG was just her being "in the zone" once in a blue moon. There is no consistency, and she'd lost the following round even if she got through. Here she loses to a washed out Bianca who hasn't done anything since her US Open Win 😅

Osaka won 8 tournaments in her whole career and she will turn 27 in 4 months. Not bad but also not indicating a capability of consistent winning. Her fans are just happy with winning her a tournament once a year or so and building expectations for another peak of form in another months.
Lack luster performance from both tbh. These highlights make it look better, they both were awkwardly going back and forth with each other. Bianca came on top.

Happy that Bianca won and a sort of sweet revenge for her losing to Naomi in 2019! I wish she does not get injured hereafter which has always been troubling her since 2018. Best wishes for her continued success💐 During breaks, meditation used to help her. Remember the last short break before the last winning game against Serena during 2019 US open finals when the entire 22000 was cheering Serena to win, Bianca calmly covered her head with the white towel and meditated for a few seconds and hit her winning shot which Serena netted on return!!
Since nobody asked, here's my two cents. I didn't check Osaka's error count, but I would guess that it was well over 30, also, her game is rather one dimensional. I think she came to the net once, attempted no lobs, no drop shots, no back hand slices and produced a lot of errors when returning serve, and yet, she still almost won the match. I just think when playing a good defensive player, you need a good net game (not great but solid), a good overhead, be willing to move forward to take some of those 'floaters' out of the air and be aggressive with short balls and second serves. Thank you.
