The Kickstarter for Mike Hutchinson's (Gaslands, A Billion Suns) newest ruleset is coming to an end very soon. Hobgoblin looks like an awesomely brutal, quick and easy set of mass battle Fantasy wargaming rules that could be a LOT of fun to play with.

Built from the ground up for you to play out BIG battles with very little upkeep, record keeping and fuss whilst also allowing you to build whatever armies you want using miniatures from your wider collection, Hobgoblin sounds like it could be well worth having a go at, especially if you've been on the fence about this style of miniatures wargame for a while.

I remember hearing something about HOBGOBLIN, and this is definitely something I want to have a look at. The more rules that come out, the more opportunities you have to use your armies or create new ones from the hoarded maze of boxes surrounding your habitat. Projects you've written off can come together with a fresh new vision. It's hard for me to paint miniatures for a game I might not get to play soon or much at all. But if you can use various rule-sets it encourages me to finish or start new projects, and inspires me to get the minis on the table and work through the rules, the more you do it the easier it gets to play through any game system.

All very true - I like that approach and it's intriguing seeing what ends up prompting you to go down different hobby routes and find inspiration for something cool to do on the tabletop.

Glad you're covering this! I watched them design it over on their Rule of Carnage channel, and it's great that it's out now! If you are after looking at interesting indie games, check out Verrotwood. Small scale skirmish (4 minis each) folk horror, where you control a cult in a twisted eerie woodland, worshipping forgotten dark deities since the good god disappeared to the sound of clanging bells. It's pretty cool!

Yeah, Hobgoblin looks like a solid little game for sure. I have indeed had a peek at Verrotwood but would be good to do a deeper dive I reckon. I like the idea behind it, kitbashing your own twisted horrors!

@@BecauseOfDragons I think you'll enjoy it, it's got a nice small scale too. It's giving me an excuse to go through the sprues I've got here and make some strange freaks, which is good
