    Mantic keeps a very special relationship to its French community. We are still restrained to v3.1 rules (before October 2022 CoK). A free translation of all CoK changes was promised when 3.5 came out. Six months later, we are still waiting. No translation, no news, nothing. We sure know France is not as huge a market as GB or the USA, but if Mantic wants to increase its position here, players deserve a better treatment. We fear that English rules 4.0 will be available before French 3.5...

      Sorry to hear that Patrick … fingers crossed the French update is out sooner rather than later.

      Curious, what's the main reason you want it translated? As a Swede, I would not buy a rules book in Swedish because I feel it would have lost something in translation. I imagine French wargamers are mostly fluent in English? Not flaming the French, I am genuinely curious here. 💙

      @@andli Unfortunately, not every player is a seasonned wargamer, most people just don't speak English good enough to be able to understand the very specifics of the rules. There are laws in France that force (well, not so much enforced) any product to be translated into French so as not to mislead their customers. Mantic sells their products, they are not given for free like 9th Age, which by the way is translated into 7 new languages within two days. Lastly, we hope to convert young players to follow on, but the overall level in foreign languages is not our best quality (we share a very long lasting mutual feud with England...) My group includes 12-to-15-year-old players, willing and ready for battle, but they are everything else as fluent in English. I'm a casual player (about once a month) but playing in English is no fun to me, although I hope I can express myself. I prefer to surrender to a player with a list in English and have a drink together. I don't care, I'll play another time.

    Thank you for this! I've been looking for something to replace WFB, and am growing tired of waiting for Old World. I also really grew tired of the fiddliness of WFB, and several other rank and file games just didn't hit the mark for me in aspects of display and granduer. You've made a new convert and gained a subscriber. Game on!

      You will not regret playing Kings of War. I'd suggest you go for a varied army for your first one - you'll get the most learning from it.

    Fantastic resource for new players- many thanks for sharing this one been looking for something like it for a while. Thought there was no way in heck I'd find 4 hours to view but you've packed the stream with great info and pointers and I'm already half way there :)

    Great video. Had my brother watch it as he is learning KoW and wargaming in general. So far he's played two games and loves it. Didn't have to look up many rules at all due to how well this video was made and explained.

    I'm not a fan of how you make it seem like chess clocks and fast play are a feature of KoW, when actually they are a feature of tournaments. People playing at home need never use a chess clock. There's more than one way to play KoW.
    And I remember you guys vociferously responding to a comment of mine about sloppy play by telling me you were casual gamers and not interested in tournament conduct or expectations. How far we've come!

    • @VictoriaWargaming
      @VictoriaWargaming  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Chess clock adds to the game - not just tournaments.
      That time pressure adds to the gameplay because you need to make good decisions quickly, instead of having all the time in the world to overanalyze. Keeps games from blowing out time wise, which impacts the time efficiency of the game.

    • @idiotproofdalek
      @idiotproofdalek ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@VictoriaWargaming Sure, but that's your preference, not how people play at home. Which is fine -but it's not part of the KoW rules.

    • @omnivision616
      @omnivision616 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@idiotproofdalek They are literally playing at home with chess clocks. Years ago when my group was heavily into Warmachine we used chess clocks for every game. Once more players in my group jump on KoW we will be using chess clocks...at home.

    • @idiotproofdalek
      @idiotproofdalek ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@omnivision616 why on earth would you? They are basically to make sure tournaments run to time. To use them at home is a form of masochism. Unless of course you are training for a tournament….

      Just dripping with sarcasm. So positive. What's wrong? Nobody left that wants to play with you?
      Chess clocks are a fantastic addition to many tabletop games. At home we use them for KoW, Grimdark Future, Hail Caesar, Bloodbowl - any game we know the rules and have a set time-limit as to when we have to get home. You know, to take care of realworld responsibilities that many adults have; like wives, children, and jobs.

    Did the horde and cav line up correctly against the Ice elementals? The horde was sharing less of the space than the regiment. If they had lined up proportionately the Ogres probably would have still got in against the other unit but it might have been close?

    This game has a lot of potential (I like it was created by an Italian fellow) but I don't like the combat mechanics because it is a ALL OR NOTHING logic that I find not realistic or fun.
    Damage should be cumulative and maybe one could have bracketing (high, mid, and low unit strength due to cumulative damage), stats should be affected by bracketing level. I would love a game like that. Maybe I need to make my own.

    • @VictoriaWargaming
      @VictoriaWargaming  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Not sure what you mean - Damage is cumulative.
      You always have less people fighting than those that are in the unit - which is why the Romans used their shifting ranks so the KoW approach is acceptable as realistic.
      also, battles weren't usually to the death, they are until the morale of one side breaks, which is also realistic.
      Units that are devastated halve their Attacks, Unit Strength and spell (n) stat values, rounding down, so it's not multiple levels, but there is a different level of effectiveness.
      I think the game reaches a perfect balance between complexity and efficiency. making it more complex means it takes more time and in the end the extra complexity would really not add anything to it.
