    Always wanted a v-max since I was in high school ,that was a long time ago ,in fact I think I remember they'd stopped making them cause they were so fast back then and when the crotch rockets started coming out like the Honda interceptor and ninja ,they started making em again ,always been a bad ass bike ,love it

      christopher shirley People always say the same old thing about the vmax usually because they've never rode one. Nothing wrong with a max they corner a lot better than the bikes i grew up on, go like fuck & never fail to put a smile on your face. By the way unlike what the other person said they do about 30-35 to the gallon not 20, it might be a bit more unless you're bringing in the vboost all the time then the fuel starts to go down, get one you wont regret it.

    That hose with the broken end does not go to the airbox-it goes to the #2 carb. This is a California model so it comes with the charcoal canister for emission.

    Good to see it running.The air filter is factory and you are right about the emissions canister. Don't forget to change the gear oil for the shaft drive and the early years used to run a bit hot, might want to check the temperature sensor to see what temp its opening.

    • @MackieBass

    I think you have a good one there, relatively tidy, engine seems looked after, puzzled that one indicator is on all the time but apart from that looks like a good un . Enjoy

    • @MackieBass
      @MackieBass  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, the indicator. It went off as soon I "reboot" the engine ;) Not came back since, but I will double check the electrical connections at later stage,

    Mackie i think the fuel would have been orange because it's had fuel stabiliser in it mate especially since the bike has fired right up without you having to clean out any jets.

  • @wayneovmax9638
    @wayneovmax9638 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Lucky you didn't need to pull carbs n rebuild. The pilot circuit on these carbs plug so easily. Good job man.. Now have carbs synced n shell purrr..

      @MackieBass  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey man, I won't be doing many mods on it, if any...I'll throw a paintjob and a proper service, but would like to keep it fairly standard for my trip.

  • @jamesweber4938
    @jamesweber4938 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    My guess is the canister with the hose that is split that goes to the air filter housing is a charcoal canister that is found on California models and also evidently on Japanese models too. I don't see the canister on the parts microfiche however.www.ronayers.com/oemparts/l/yam/50042e32f8700209bc78a2e2/1989-v-max-1200-vmx12wc-partsI use the Ron Ayers website a lot to find parts and look at the diagrams. On the gas tank diagrams you will see that there is a fuel filter. You might want to replace that ?

  • @DJShadow1966

    Looks to me like she's had an engine rebuild, or close to it! But glad she runs ok, and what a mouthy bitch, sounds awesome!! As said below, give her a damn good paintjob mate, I'm sure you have some ideas. RSM8

    • @MackieBass
      @MackieBass  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Ian, I don't think engine was rebuilt, but then again - I don't know for sure. Yes, paint job is coming, but not yet - she needs a good service first!

    Rather then take the carbs off completely buy a can of sea foam motor treatment and stick it in the petrol tank. Americans use it all the time. Also did the engine thermostat open?

    • @MackieBass
      @MackieBass  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Edward Leniston good point Edward. How do u check the engine thermostat? What do I look for?

    • @edwardleniston1076
      @edwardleniston1076 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      MackieBass check the temperature gauge when the engine is hot it should move toward the hot end of the scale. If not then it is likely that the thermostat is probably broken and needs to be replaced or the switch has failed. Either way I would replace the thermostat just for peace of mind.
