I spray mine until all the grass is wet then turn it upside down to get off the drippings. If there's any moisture on the bottom by the roots, I pat dry with a towel before putting it in a stand.

I've been using an orchid mist fertilizer from miracle grow and it has been working wonderfully. I also speak once a week(usually in an extremely diluted used coffee grounds water) they have started doing so much better since I've started the orchid mist though.

They should not be set on something that will hold water after you have dipped them in water. We use a little moss, but coarse sand or gravel will keep them from sitting in the excess water as well.

No need to dip the base. Air plants get moisture and nutrients through their leaves, so as long as the leaves get wet, the air plant can get what it needs. The roots and base are nothing more than anchors to keep the plant in place when they attach to trees in nature. You can even cut off the roots and the plant won’t get affected in any way.
The hardness of tap water varies from place to place. Take the place where I live as an example. The tap water in some cities within 200 kilometers is almost pure water, while some actually reach 300 mg per liter. I want to know the upper limit of hardness that can be used to soak air pineapples, thank you.

These air plants are displayed on an old antique baby bed mattress spring. I believe it was found in an antique store locally. There are a lot of old things being re-purposed, and I've seen these used for many different display purposes.

Many plants will give you a "tell" that let you know their "stress point". I would rather not allow the Tillandsia become stressed or begin to lose color or shrivel, but of course that could be observed. If I have let a Tillandsia go "too far" and it does shrivel, I will leave it in the water longer and allow it to re-hydrate.
I am not aware of steel being toxic to tillandsia. Just copper. I actually have native tillandsia growing on iron patio chairs and also see it on telephone/electric wires. We have had them on our "bedspring" display for many years.

Yeah you can. The coffee grounds won’t really do anything, since air plants get their nutrients fron the air, not from the medium you plant them on.

Also be careful around landscape timbers. They are treated with copper sulfate and that will kill your tillandsias.
