    I found this little black carved hand holding a glass cup, filled with tiny white rocks.... holding this plant. The aesthetic is 💜 & I fell in love.
    Didn't know I was buying an air plant.
    Now I've got a skele-violin player, his hair is the "pot"....
    I always look when I'm at the store, I need more air plants 🪴 😊
    Thanks for the shelf idea! Super cute 😉

    Hi Nick. I enjoyed your segment on air plants. Much of the info was spot on. The only comment you made that no one really considers themselves an air plant collector is incorrect. There are many of us who are including myself, Air Plant collectors. There are so many varieties to choose from. Starting with just a few eventually becomes many! 👀 🍀

    I keep some of my airplant s next to my orchids. They are near both east and south windows. I also provide supplemental plant lights. I put mine in rain water only with a very diluted orchid fertilizer. I do this 2 to times a week and soak them for 1 to 2 hours, depending on humidity. I also mist them daily. I keep a fan on during the day on my plants. I absolutely love airplants and they thrive and grow. They are indeed darling plants that reward me by blooming and making more plants. I grew up around them, playing in live oaks. Probably explains my love for them. I can tell when they are well hydrated as they have a heavier, plumper feel. I’m surprised that you didn’t mention feeding them.

    Hi Nick!! I have 3 air plants that have been thriving for 5 years now. The other varieties i had didnt make it this far. Im really hoping they will produce pups!
    Thanks for the information! I keep mine on my rack, under LED grow lights in between my hoyas. I would love to get more!

    I have 3 different airplants for now all in the window above my kitchen sink and I love them! You're soooooo right about them being underrated and so great for creative displays! I want to collect more even though I wouldn't consider myself a strictly airplant guy. I collect a couple of types of plants but mostly just ones that catch my eye

    I bought 12 about 2 years ago, still have 10 of them. All are in my kitchen sink window, I have a grow light above the window and made wire hangers for the plants. They also get extra humidity since there is often water running in the sink.

      Nice! Just never use any wire w/copper. You can also use e6000 glue.

    I love air plants!! I started with 5 and they keep giving me pups and then the pups get pups. I've noticed that they don't always die after they flower but they do seem to produce pups more readily after they flower.

    I have a lot of airplants, all different types and sizes.. I display them either in Binga bowls (a load of them on one Binga bowl looks like a tropical smorgasbord), or I hang them with wires upside down off of a curtain rod in various northwest facing windows of my home. I dunk them in a bucket of water approximately once a week (varies a little in summer vs winter), let them dry upside down in my dishrack and then put them back in their respective places. They are happy and sometimes they flower and then I get pups and clumps!

      Dunk them once a week and shake them out upside down, put them back in a bright place (not direct sun) and the will do well!

    Hola Nick!
    I have 4 air plants, so call myself a collector now 🤭
    Currently I was gifted a silver plate holder. 🤔I had to think outside the box because my plates dry in the dishwasher and are stored in cabinet.
    I use the apparatus to display my airplants. Xerographica sits inside as if she were a plate. The other 3 hang on top.
    Great video pal. Thanks for sharing!
    Oh, btw...I soak my babies once a week for 30 minutes. Four months and they seem to like it.

    Xerographica has been on my wishlist forever, I have been doing ok with the T. ionantha and butzii so maybe it’s time save up for the Xerographica, they’re pretty pricy…very good video, am going to steal your example of resting them in a basket ! 😊

    Thanks for this video, Nick. I have had several tillandsias for years, they get good light, I soak them regularly, but they don't look good. Alive but not good. I think you uncovered the reason! I'm soaking them too long, I unload them into the sink full of water, get distracted & suddenly realize they've been in there for 1-2 hours. I didn't think that would harm them but didn't even consider rotting could be a problem.

    • @danid6171
      @danid6171 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Long soaking is rarely an issue; it's the drying time. The crucial step to prevent rot is to ensure that the core of the plant dries quickly after soaking, within 4 hours max. Some people direct a fan onto them, as they dry upside down. I have about 30 air plants (7 types) and always soak them for a couple of hours but I dry them in a warm area or hang them upside down to maximise air flow. Never had rot.
      If you're getting brown tips, then you may not be watering frequently enough. In summer, twice a week can be required. If your tap water is hard, then that might be contributing to your air plants not looking good.

    Thanks for making this video! I have three airplants, but untill this morning I had four. One fell apart when I tried to put in in my jar of water... I bought it a month ago and I think the plant shop never watered it. After watching this video, I think my mistake was watering it for too long for such a dehydraded plant. My other three are thriving though! I've had two for about two or three years, and the third one for about half a year. Thanks for the info!

      Don't let the water settle in the crown of the tillandsia. You can soak them upside-down

  • @fleabitz1474
    @fleabitz1474 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    You can get a decorative piece of driftwood and glue the air plants to it, avoiding putting the glue where the roots come out. The roots will often cling to the wood then. Oddly, the glue does not harm the plants at all. I have two of these arrangements. Also, with the "dusty" looking ones like the Xerographica, the textured surface is how they absorb water and shouldn't be rubbed off. It's possible to buy air plant food that can be mixed in the water.

    • @summergirl15
      @summergirl15 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Make sure you use e6000 glue. The lighter tillandsia prefer more light than the darker green tillandsia . Never let the water sit in the crown. Have fun growing your tillandsia!

    • @fleabitz1474
      @fleabitz1474 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@summergirl15 Yes, e6000, thanks for pointing that out, I forgot that detail.

    • @Sweetpatches24
      @Sweetpatches24 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I’ve found it better to drill holes in the wood or bark rather than glue. This way the plants can easily be removed for watering and feeding. I use very weak orchid food and mine do just fine with supplementing lighting with leds.

    • @fleabitz1474
      @fleabitz1474 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Sweetpatches24 I have no trouble watering them while they are attached to the bark. I just spray them, I don't soak. They've been fine for years.

      @@Sweetpatches24 yes, cork is also a really cool looking bark to use. I've used wire ( w/no copper) or e6000 glue.

    I have many air plants and have had them for over a year now. All but the largest one live in a kinda terrarium setting with a grow light. Not sealed though. I water mine once a week for an hour. Dry upside down completely. The only one I ever lost was the butzii due to rot. So now I never soak the ‘bulb’ just the legs and it’s doing just fine.

    • @fleabitz1474
      @fleabitz1474 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Butziis are notoriously temperamental compared to other varieties. Interesting about only soaking the legs, never thought to try that.

    How fo you tell if the airplant needs water?? Which should i water with purified or distilled water?? It has glue on the roots. It was a gift and tge store that sold it glued it to an armadillo so i had to yank it out because it looked likr it was dying. Its so cute and i want to save it. Ty Nick.
