    I use this stuff for my Tillandsia's. Epiphyte’s Delight fertilizer was developed for a special reason. Nitrogen promotes foliar growth. If you have Tillandsias, Orchids, or other epiphytes and you feed them, take a look at the nitrogen content. If it’s high in urea, the plants can’t use it because the urea needs a bacteria in soil to break it down into ammonia and nitrates. Since the epiphytes don’t have any soil they can’t break down the urea. It was for this reason that we had Epiphyte’s Delight formulated. It contains only ammoniacal and nitrate nitrogen which is immediately accessible and usable by the plants.

    Hey Brad, thanks for being a resource. As a Green Goddess myself, I have expanded to orchids this past year and all 6 are thriving--even the three Phalys I "rescued" from the scratch and dent at that particular local hardware store (L**es) where some nitwit cut the roots or drenched it in moss! I truly enjoy your videos as the continuously inform me.

    Great video, Brad. I always learn something...love those baby air plants!
    Almost the perfect companion plant to orchids and fairly maintenance free. For the most part, the air plants in my collection reside within the orchid pots and the treatment the orchid gets is the treatment the air plant gets. Never know when they will bloom and once they get going, they are with you for a long long time. Even if you don't have a greenhouse,.they do just fine in my livingroom.
    In Montreal, the biggest obstacle is finding a quality supplier of air plants. The hardware store plant sections sometimes sell them at a cheap price, but they can be in rough shape. The best and priciest ones are from the Montreal Botanical Garden Boutique, which sells plants cultivated from their own extensive collection. I'd buy even more and the larger ones too, if only I had the space.

    Thanks for the update! You got me interested in having Tillandsias when I watched your previous videos. I have four one of which is a Tillandsia Crocata which has a flower spike. I was really surprised since I just got it in the spring. Do you try pollinating when the flower first opens or do you wait until the flower is nearing the end of it's blooming? I have my air plants on a bright north window sill in my bedroom. It must be enough light for them if this is blooming. I'd love to watch if you decide to video your taking the one out of the pot and also planting the seeds. Oh heck, I'd love to watch any video you make- they're all great!

    ***** FYI, the Till. at 8:42, Till. "argentea" was recently lumped with the species Till. fuchsii. The formerly known "argentea" became Till. fuchsii var. gracilis. So "argentea" is no longer a species, it just became a different variety of Till. fuchsii. Sorry if that's confusing, of course, that's taxonomy for you, lol.

    I'm located in Ontario Canada (GTA) and I'm really interested in starting to grow these - however every store I got to a tiny 2" plant is close to $10 - any suggestions on places to pick these up or get them shipped?
    I've started a collection of terrariums - mainly doing tropical plants in closed systems and succulents in open systems but i'm really interested in getting into air plant as well. Hoping to get some direction on where i might be able to get reasonably priced varieties.

I have a tillandsia ionantha not sure if it's a Guatamala or not but anyways it's had a seed pod on it for probably close to 2 year now and it still hasn't popped yet. It has 1 pup growing at the base that's nearly the size of the original mother and I'm getting impatient 😂

    these both guys are more hardyes than you could think. Here, on the east coast of australia they grow in the garden on the trees with no watering sometimes for few weeks. I observe a huge piese of a spanish moss on a tree in our neighbour's garden, growing too far away from any kind of watering in full sun, its only getting bigger. humidity in winter here is 50-60%, no rain for month. Just moning dew sometimes. 7-25C Temp. range. The tillandsia is growing on the trees with my onsidiums, hardy as well. I water them once a week if its dry.

  • @Bestarstruck
    @Bestarstruck 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Just a question, but why do you leave the dead/spent flower spikes on the plants instead of pruning them off? I know generally speaking that's the usual practice because it helps redirect the plants energy towards new growth. Maybe this varies for air plants though :)

    • @brookgough1581
      @brookgough1581 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bailey Tenerovich because after pollenating them you don’t want to take the dead flowers/stem off. That is where the seeds will grow if you were successful with the pollination. After you can get the seed you can remove the stem or if you didn’t attempt to pollinate the flowers you can remove it.
