    If you’re expecting a ship with amusement park rides and non stop partying, you’ll be disappointed. This ship is primarily about the destination. You’ll hardly be on ship anyway. My family on here last summer and we had a great time: good food, helpful kind staff, quiet and charming ambience. I recommend highly for most efficient way to get around islands

    Thanks fella's this is a great overview. I was really wondering how much we could achieve each day once we were off the ship and this gave me far more idea than anything else I have found on the internet. Given our travel distances in Aus, I generally temper your expectations of what you can get around in a day. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the weather Gods are kind, (though that's not generally our holiday experience 🙂), but hey it will be what it is, - can't do much about the weather. Thanks again.

      @derekandjonathan Hi guys, we are back from Hawaii (wow, that went fast). I have to thank you again. When we arrived at Waimea Canyon, it was rainy and low cloud. Basically, we couldn't see a thing. If I hadn't seen your experience of the canyon, we probably would have left, but I remembered how things had cleared for you. • @derekandjonathan
      @derekandjonathan  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Hi there, thanks so much for watching!! Technically, I don't believe NCL actually allows drones on board. That's according to their website policies, at least. Regardless, we did bring our drone (DJI Mini 3 Pro, so small drone) on board in our camera bag. I wouldn't say we "snuck" it in. We simply brought it - there was no effort to hide it. We can only speak for our experience here and can't guarantee that you won't have any issues bringing your drone on board. We also didn't use the drone anywhere near the cruise ship or any of the ports. As for restrictions on the islands, drones are restricted in some areas (like national parks, protected areas, state parks, etc). You should research every single location where you intend to fly a drone to familiarize yourself with local restrictions.

      Hi there! Thanks so much for watching :) On Maui, we were advised by the ship crew that nearly everyone parks their rental car in the CVS/Longs Pharmacy parking lot directly across from the cruise port. They were right - we easily found a spot near the back of the lot (it will be busy, but spaces were available for us) and we had no issues walking right over to it in the morning and going on our way. The CVS is at 70 E Kaahumanu Ave. On Kauai, we again sought the advice of the crew and were told that literally everyone with a rental car parks it on the street in the neighborhood across from the cruise ship terminal. They were totally right. We parked on the side of Wilcox Rd right near the entrance of Banyan Harbor Resort along with many other people, and we were just fine in the morning. G,day guy’s great vid Doing the same trip in September so I was wondering what your thoughts were about the cruise ship itself So many negative comments out there I know some people can be very picky but you two seem like down to earth guys so would appreciate your thoughts TIA

    • @derekandjonathan
      @derekandjonathan  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Hey there, thanks so much for watching! We also saw all the negative comments about the ship and those comments honestly helped level-set our expectations. The most common complaint we heard was about the ship staff. The Pride of America is the ONLY ship in the Norwegian fleet that is registered in the United States, and thus it never has to go foreign ports. As a result, the ship crew is 100% American getting paid by US standards. If you've ever been on a Norwegian cruise (or any cruise, for that matter), you likely had a very international crew. The international cruise service standards are way higher - it's that simple. International crews are nicer, more patient, more helpful, and just better in most respects. The American crew on the Pride of America is...American lol. Imagine the service you would get stateside in any mid-level restaurant - that's the type of service you'll get on this ship. It's not bad. It just doesn't compare to that posh level of luxury service that it typical of international cruises. We knew this all going in thanks to those reviews, and we were totally fine with the service we had throughout the ship. Not the best we've ever experienced, but not ever bad.
      Now for the ship itself....the design is a bit gaudy and tacky. The theme throughout is very "American Presidential" and the entire ship feels like you're walking around a building in Washington DC. It's a strange choice for Hawaii. But again, not bad - just a little strange and it wasn't our favorite decor, but we didn't care because we were in Hawaii!
      In the end, our memories of Hawaii are filled with adventure and excitement - we don't even think about the little negatives of the cruise ship. We were on that ship to sleep, eat, and relax so we could get the most out of our time in Hawaii - and it served that purpose perfectly. We would totally do it all over again and we think this is the best way to experience 4 islands in a relatively short amount of time.
      Thanks again for watching, and we hope you have an amazing cruise in September!! Aloha :)

    Did you keep your rental car overnight in Maui? If so, where did you park it when you got back on the ship for the night?

    We are going in October!
    Did you keep your rental car the 2nd day in Maui, and if so, where’d you park? Also, I’m assuming you took an Uber or taxi to the airports from the port?

    • @derekandjonathan
      @derekandjonathan  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Hi there!! Great questions - for the most part, yes, we used Ubers to get to and from each airport rental car facility. There were a couple random instances where taxi cabs were lined up waiting at the port so we opted for that out of convenience. As for overnight parking in Maui, yes we kept the rental car for day 2 in Maui. We were advised by the ship crew that nearly everyone parks their rental car in the CVS/Longs Pharmacy parking lot directly across from the cruise port. They were right - we easily found a spot near the back of the lot (it will be busy, but spaces were available for us) and we had no issues walking right over to it in the morning and going on our way. The CVS is at 70 E Kaahumanu Ave. Hope you all have an amazing time in October, enjoy!! 🌴🌴

    Great video. Did you guys pre-book your rental cars at the airports? I’d imagine they would be quite popular?

    • @derekandjonathan
      @derekandjonathan  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, we did. We used Hertz at every location and they didn't disappoint at all. I would absolutely recommend pre-booking the rental to ensure you have a car, and also not spend time in line waiting.

      @@derekandjonathan How easy was it for you guys to get to the rental car from the port?

    • @derekandjonathan
      @derekandjonathan  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@kathyhayes5578 extremely easy! Some ports had taxi stands so we just waited for our turn and hopped in. We mostly used Uber and would walk to the nearest street to pick them up. Take a look at the Uber time and cost estimates before you get off the ship so you have an idea of where to go and how long it might take. Hope you have a blast!!

    Quick question, at the end of Day 2 and Day 6, we can go back to the ship rest for the night right? Or have to look out for a place to stay overnight?

    • @derekandjonathan
      @derekandjonathan  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi there! You can absolutely go back on the ship at any time during the overnight stays. There's definitely no need to find an additional place to stay on the islands - your stateroom is always available to you at any time and you can get in and off the ship whenever you want during those stops 😊
