As a young Christian at my previous church, I once asked a female elder what our senior pastor made in salary. She looked at me sort of in shock and said “That’s private information.” I was somewhat taken aback because that pastor was known for preaching to the congregation many a Sundays about “bringing the tithe.” He was very forthright about how we as the congregation should bring 10% of our gross income, the “first fruits”, to the church and live a blessed life, which I still adhere to to this day. But I thought then, and still do, if we’re all brothers and sisters in Christ, and you ask me to give in the name of Christ to the church, should you not be open to me on how that money is used and spent, including pastors’ salaries? Not soon after that conversation, it was revealed in the media that the pastor had a $2M lease on a private jet and we left that church.
I can definitely see how taking care of the needs of our pastor helps free up time for study, My husband is a truck driver over the road. He makes that sacrifice so I can be with our children and care for him more. Because of this it gave more time for me to study the gospel as we both became Christian and the Lord has blessed us both by it. I have learned so much and in turn can share points with him for his consideration. God is good ❤
I think you need to read your bible and quit studying it. Because it is written not to sell God's word, the tithe was a temporary thing and if you read the Bible you will know the whole story. 😇 Tithing is for man, not God. And God doesn't pay you ten fold for it. Your good deeds gets you ten fold. Not money. Those preachers don't tell you the truth, because they want your money. 🤗They are deceivers. You will see. 😇
@@deemisquadis9437 The Word should most definitely be studied. You can read it like a book which is awesome for a totality view of the scriptures but also studying is needed for in depth searching through the scriptures. I would say your advice is extremely unbiblical and is the reason we have so many false and deceiving pastors. No one studies the Word anymore
@endtimesareuponus8930 that we should stop studying, that’s ridiculous. The l just read your bibles and don’t study it “ is the reason we have Kenneth Copeland around and the whole prosperity gospel and word of faith moevement
@endtimesareuponus8930 the Bible of course can be simple but there’s also a depth to it that only through studying it will you dig deep. Exegeting scripture and having a good hermeneutical foundation is important. You kinda sound like a wolf. Trying to get believers to stop studying scripture
@endtimesareuponus8930 depends what you mean by a “child” and also I have no high horse. Studying the word is a privilege given by God when he regenerates you by the spirit.
1 Peter 5 1 The elders which are among you I exhort, who am also an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed: 2 Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind; 3 Neither as being lords over God's heritage, but being ensamples to the flock.
Galatians 6:6 - Let him who is taught the word share in all good things with him who teaches. There is one more passage that is relevant. But also in the same 1 Timothy, very important relevant passage 6:6-8 - "Now godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world and we can carry nothing out. And having good and clothing, with these we shall be content"
So true. When you follow the path. It is amazingly wonderful. I fell like I am the riches woman in the world. And I have left the world and worldly things. This is the only way. I love all living things unconditionally and forgive all things forever. This is the only way.
Universally, salary is almost always determined by 3 things: education, experience, and scope of responsibility. Pastors almost always have advanced degrees (Masters or PhD), many of them devote their entire lives to the calling, and who could even question the responsibility before God of shepherding His flock??? They should be compensated accordingly. But of course, a church should always have missions and outreach as a core priority.
This was very insightful, my only slight would be when Pastor John says "you shouldn't put someone in that position who loves money", the reality is someone can be pure-hearted at one stage, then change over the years with greed. I wonder if there's something churches can put in place to limit to damages in such case. May the Spirit continually guide churches in this matter worldwide
Awe, they can't, it is beyond your understanding, but evil rules. Not your fault. They get bit with pride and greed too. We are human. It is their nature. You have to be strong on this path, and not waiver. There is only one true path.
Psalms 11:6 Upon the wicked he shall rain snares, fire and brimstone, and an horrible tempest: this shall be the portion of their cup. Romans 2:9 Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile;
The questions Piper chooses to answer; it's like he's completely unaware of the cultural climate he lives in, and the abject sin cyclone that is going on around him. He leaves the real fighting to unbelievers like Matt Walsh, and hones in on non-issues.This willful obliviousness is the fruit of pietism. “It is the truth which is assailed in any age which tests our fidelity. It is to confess we are called, not merely to profess. If I profess, with the loudest voice and the clearest exposition, every portion of the truth of God except precisely that little point which the world and the devil are at that moment attacking, I am not confessing Christ, however boldly I may be professing Christianity. Where the battle rages the loyalty of the soldier is proved; and to be steady on all the battle-field besides is mere flight and disgrace to him if he flinches at that one point.”
How should pastors or leaders within the church handle large gifts: let's say a member were to give a luxury car as a gift to a pastor or a membership to an exclusive country club? Does this ruin their witness if they choose to accept the gift?
@@HearGodsWord he has a job. I never did ask why the church was set up the way it is. I do know though, that for me, it broke down one of the barriers that I had towards church. Everyone gives their time. Tithing is rarely mentioned. We don't pass a collection plate. Church does pretty well.

@@deemisquadis9437 I know a pastor who was making about 60k at his job. But once he became a pastor he took a huge pay cut. His church isn’t big but because he loves God he did it. A lot of our pastors in our fellowship don’t make a lot of money and took pay-cuts to serve God. I know pastors get a lot of hate but there are people who follow God who loves YOUR soul
Depends on how long your church is open, if it’s open 2 hours a week like most the pastors should not consider it a job but a hobby but if it’s open 24 hour a week 5 days a week then yeah they should get a wage.

I have a question that doesn't directly pertain to the above video - paraphrasing here but there is a verse in the Bible that says you are not suppose to rebuke an elder. So with that being the case I would like some advice on how to handle a situation appropriately (or am I just suppose to put up with it?) There is an older man in the church that is pretty highly regarded however he has nothing to do with me which is understandable because of the age difference. However there is one exception to that - almost every time we do have an interaction (mostly run into each other out in town like in a store or something) by the time we part ways he has either insulted me in a back handed way or made me the butt of his joke. Its gotten to the point if I see him I try to avoid him but the other day we got stuck in line together at a local store and sure to form before I got out of the store he insulted me. To give you JUST one example of his insults I was asked to be an assistant song leader for the youth. After the service he made a point of coming up to shake my hand outside the church and made the statement "You sing like a bird" I said thank you - he then replied "HA HA HA a buzzard is a bird that doesn't mean its a good thing" and walked off I now am humiliated to get up in front of the church and a job that I originally was looking forward to I now hate and feel embarrassed about doing. This is just one example of his actions - I know he thinks he is being funny but its anything but. To give you an idea of the age difference he is probably about 35 - 40 years older than me just guessing. Any advice would be appreciated. (also just for clarity he never does the insults or jokes where others can hear him and I have never heard him do anyone else the way he does me) How bibically do I need to handle this situation?

I want the pastor of my church "all in" on teaching and preaching. The amount they are paid at my church is and should be public information and should be plenty to be comfortable and taken care of.
Apologies in advance for the novel but please take this into consideration and if I am wrong correct me gently😮💨 So what was Jesus' salary? If pastors are being paid, are they more worthy than he? Sounds like when Judas sold Jesus and realised he was invaluable. Jesus was nomadic and God always saw that wherever Jesus was he had enough, there were/are volunteers. Matthew 6. I guess its perspective and how you perceive scripture, but you can't be bias to scriptures of preference on a subject. If bibles were given as freely as the 'barcodes' we recieve at birth then choice would be split down the middle and it would be clear. I am also privy to my comforts, I can separate myself from my 'materials' and necessities. Everyday I TRY to emulate the characteristics of Jesus..some days I fail miserably. I also feel away about not seeing the people 'widows, orphans, impoverished' referred to invited, or testimonies shared however they may come(good to inspire, bad to pray for),which is more inspiring than the rehearsed emphasis on a subject being lamented week after week. You can sit in the company of friends/family and they'll 'say wow, this happened to me' but rarely(self included, and noted as trying to consciously correct) give thanks to God for the provision. Everything is monetized... Churches must be transparent about finances. There are WHOLE communities as stated in the comments below where people are DYING/still in the same place and things keep getting worse, yet we give to the church. If it is being utilized properly then society wouldn't be so deprived and the faith & hope would be motivation to build. The Mega churches would be more fruitful if they were modest, and a portion was used for farming to provide for the weaker among us. I reserve the right of judgment to God, for myself.

Should we pay the musicians then, sound guys, “deacons”, assistant pastors, accountants, etc etc. I don’t think any of these verses anticipate the modern American church. It’s a slippery slope which the church has has not navigated well in my opinion. The congregation may be scraping by pay check to pay check but the pastor should have all their needs met? Missionary (traveling) work is more likely the context of all of these verses. Someone who is not in one place long enough to hold down a job should be supported. Anyway this is getting close to sounding like a rant lol. Disagree with PJ on this one but that’s okay…I think.
PJ makes generally good points I agree with in the exhortation, however you raise points that are actually at least as pertinent and sorely need addressing in this context. Not to mention that in this day and age we all in theory have access to the word of God and infinite online teaching, good and bad, as well as innumerable apostate churches and wolves to waste our money on, should we not have our wits about us. It surely is prudent to be very circumspect on where we give our gifts to, and make it a priority to study the scriptures ourself as we are commanded, all to the glory of God

What about very small church plants in which the labor is very light. It seems in a smaller context it would be right to have a part time job until the church is large enough to support them without sacrificing the function of the pastor or overburdening the body. If there are only 10 adult members requiring some counsel and one sermon it would seem there’s ample time to be work part time & do the work of a pastor. Obviously when the congregation is large enough this changes to a full time position but unless you have all high earning members it really could present a problem.
Anyone who actually thinks that tha Pastor of a small church doesn’t have a lot of work to do (less than a pastor of a large congregation) is sadly out of touch. I have been on staff of mega churches and pastored small and mid sized churches; actually the reverse is true.
@@danielwilderman5798 I quantified the number. 10 adults is probobly smaller than what you are considering but to be fair many church plants are even smaller. It may vary depending on income and level of need of counseling. In reality if your only producing a sermon and having 2-3 counseling sessions a week that leaves an incredible amount of time. Even with bible study & evangelism, which everyone else attends and assists with as well. That would be about 15-20 hours of labor. Now if every adult person requires counseling in that size church then your looking at probobly 22-27 hours a week. Which is still considered part time and you might want to consider the burden your placing on those supporting you. Maybe your church plant consists of doctors and engineers and those 10 tithes more than cover your family. But I doubt that’s often the case and I bet most church plants are much smaller. It’s not “out of touch” & I considered that extremely rude. Is it fair to ask 5 working men who make 3000-4000 a month to fully support a pastor? 2000 a month and in many places it would be very hard for them to survive with a family on their own incomes. Going beyond 10% when there’s time in the day for the pastor to work seems overly burdensome to the those in the body.

Wages are referred to as food and drink. Look at what Jesus said to the 12 when sending them out. Take no money and eat and drink what you are served in the house you stay. Pastors should not be a hireling and should not manipulate for 'filthy lucre.' This is money that is manipulated to obtain. Tithing is not New Testament and was never money but grain and produce.

next time maybe show your point at the beginning, and focus more on how much pastor should makes a year, instead of citing whole bunch of verses telling pastors should be paid, no one are going to starving our beloved pastors to death.😅
Wow, you paint this picture that God did not promote, teach, or practice! 1 Corinthians 9:14 is misread as so many people do, just to receive free money from the people, all in the name of our Lord God. Why did you stop short of verse 18? Just like so many of you do, just to receive a paycheck. I'll post it since you won't. 18 What then is my reward? Just this: that in preaching the gospel I may offer it free of charge, and so not make full use of my rights as a preacher of the gospel. So many don't understand what is being said in Timothy by Paul, and that is why you shouldn't open your mouth presuming to know what the Bible says when you don't. Honor is not money people, its respect. Remember when Jesus said a prophet is without honor in his own home? Does that mean that a prophet/pastor/teacher should be paid by their own family? No, just shown respect as they should. The Gospel was never about money. Once again, you misled the people on the passage in Luke with the wages. It was not about preaching to get paid, or paid to preach, it was about earning your own living while sharing the Gospel of Freedom. After Jesus came and went back to Heaven, Remember, at that time, they were under the Law of Works, but now after Jesus paid the price, they were going around changing things, and letting people know they were saved by Grace as Paul did all through Galatians. Paul also said that he worked with his own hands to earn his living, not preaching the Gospel; but false teachers go around perverting the Gospel with money. I've been a pastor for 23 years and NEVER received a dime for telling people about Jesus. Shame on these people that won't do what the Bible teaches. People, think about this, especially all you pastors out there; you mean to tell me you won't share Jesus with someone unless they pay you? When you talk to someone about Jesus, do you hold out your hand afterward and say now you owe me, GIVE? Ok, let me get this straight, Jesus gave His life in payment for our sins, to give us salvation and eternal life, while you pastors and tv preachers are collecting money and accepting payment for something you didn't do? WOW!!! Shame on you! Let's get something straight, First of all the Money Tithe System, was hijacked from the Old Covenant Scriptures, and changed into a Money Tithe by the Roman Catholics in 355AD with Rome making the people pay their local priests 10% of their income, while calling it a tax. Secondly, it was the Roman Catholics that first invented the building to meet in 255AD, and by 356AD they had the people pay for the building and the priest, this way to keep control of the people. When Martin Luther left the German Catholics, he introduced the money tithe to the Reformation, which found its way to America from the denominations leaving Europe. And today, we have over 15,000 different denominations here in the USA all teaching a heresy Money Tithe System of 10% to their local denomination. The denominations here in the USA look like the RC's, they act like the RC's, they elect a head man for the building like the RC's, and of course they pass the plate and have the people fund everything like the RC's. But not one word of this is taught in the Holy Bible! Show me the verses where they built a building and charged a 10% money tithe? No buildings being built, No showing the people how to elect a pastor, and No passing an offering plate telling the people to give 10% of their income to their local church. Paul said we are to be imitators of Christ. Did Jesus do any of this? NO Please read the entire New Testament, not certain verses taken out of context; and you will see the Collections taken up went to the church people for Equality. Jesus, the Disciples and Apostles NEVER once stuck out their hands, saying pay me, I'm preaching. Let's read what Jesus said. Matthew 10:8 Jesus sent out the 12 saying to them: Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give. Jesus said, Freely you have been given, now go give it away for FREE. Jesus didn't charge anyone to become a believer, nor did he charge people when he healed them. Ephesians 4:11-12 11 So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, 12 to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up. Jesus himself picked these people back then for works of service. Jesus HIMSELF gave the Apostles, Prophets, Evangelists, Pastors, and Teachers to equip His people for works of service. I would say this is how the Gospel is spread wouldn't you say? By word of mouth. This man, tells this man, and then he tells his brother, and he tells his wife, and she tells this person and so on, and so on, until the Gospel has been spread all over the earth. This was their great commission; go and make disciples of men. But still, no word of building a building calling it a church... Let's continue on with Paul, since you used Paul to try and say I have to pay teachers and preachers to hear them talk to me. 2 Corinthians 2:17 17 Unlike so many, WE do not peddle the word of God for profit. That means money folks. There is NO RECORD of Paul ever teaching to get paid, or getting paid to preach. Some people gave unto Paul and others out of JOY, Happiness and relief knowing the truth, but never ever was it taught to the people or practiced by Jesus, the Disciples or Apostles to collect money from the people when they witnessed to them. We do not peddle the Word of God for profit. Shall I go on? If Paul didn't preach the Gospel for profit, am I to? No Just like Jesus, the Disciples and Apostles said, MANY false teachers would come and make merchandise of you, and that's exactly what is going on today. Just because someone is on tv or at the local religious business, doesn't mean I need to give them a 20. I've been preaching 23 years, and I haven't accepted a dime, because I worked for my keep, and it doesn't matter what time of the day or night it is, I'm ready to serve when called upon, just like right now. 1 Corinthians 16:1-4 was a collection for the poor. They did not go to a church weekly to give them their money so they can keep up the mortgage on their denominational religious business. And if you think they're not in a business, think again! Because there was no church buildings back 2000 years ago, because they met in homes, and that is Biblical. Paul was asking the Christians to set aside a little money until he comes back to get it, and then it was taken and given to the poor. And yes, as they are giving to the poor, I'm sure they used some to eat with, and I don't have one problem with that, but are they taking up collections for the poor only today? NO! The collections they gather up today goes to keep their building and business running. Do you know there's a church in Dallas that cost $356,000,000.00 while right down the street under I-75 is a huge tent city. This is why people don't want to become Christians today, because these so called pastors disgust people, and dirty the Gospel with money. There was NO church building nor church business in the Bible. As the same in 2 Corinthians 8:13 Our desire is not that others might be relieved while you are hard pressed, but that there might be equality. Did you get that Saints? ***Equality*** And the same in 2 Corinthians 9:9 As it is written: “They have freely scattered their gifts to the poor; their righteousness endures forever." There are 8 verses saying they met in their homes, not denominational church buildings/ businesses. Sure, there is nothing wrong with people wanting to chip in for a 30 million dollar building, but where is the Chapter and Verse on that please and I'll give to you right now??? Besides whose going to own it, pay taxes on it, heat, air, electricity, water, sewer, maint? Face it, Jesus, the Disciples nor Apostles ever taught us to start a religious business, by building a building calling it a church, and then to elect a man, and then pay him and a staff. Not one verse! However, we were told to make sure there was equality throughout the church, and what was the church? Colossians 1:18 Paul said that Jesus was the head of the Church calling the believers the Church! We pastors aren't something special, because were just like everyone else that accepts Jesus, Saved by Grace, lest any man should boast. Those of you who teach the money tithe system to make a living are not preaching what the Bible teaches, you're preaching what the Roman Catholics do! Catholicism...
I don't think this answers much of the question. For one thing how much is needs met as opposed to having more than the needs. Also as I remember those in the church of the first century were paid by the church members the money paid by believers in the church not the government. So is it right for pastors to be getting paid copious amounts that handle far more than their needs by either money from believes tithes and such or government funding which also goes into any and every religious institution even the Satanic church? Just wondering. Paul was given money by believers for his needs not his wants also he worked outside of spreading the gospel.
An average of what everyone in the church makes… 12 tribes of Israel. 11 tribes got land, etc as an inheritance. Those 11 gave 10% to the 1 without inheritance. Now that 1 has 110%, right? Now they give their 10% to God… Bam! Average and even. No better, no worse, just made whole.
lol... you should try being a full-time pastor with a spouse and kids that study prepares to speak God's word, visits people counsel people, and then have no provision for your family because you are muzzled by others who say you can't eat from your labor. Please consider Paul. He didn't take from certain people or churches like the church in Corinth but he did receive support from the church of Philippi which allowed him to give his time freely to others and perhaps even Corinth.
@@HearGodsWord he gets a job like the rest of us, or God takes care of him. He is not to get paid for sharing God's word. He gets enough tithing to take care of all of you. God takes care of his own. 😢I have been taken care of. No one gave me tithing every week for my God work. God takes care of me. Because I believe in him. Like I am supposed to do. Enough to fully, wholeheartedly serve the Lord.
"Female elder" was the first red flag.
There's no such thing as a female elder

1 The elders which are among you I exhort, who am also an elder, and
a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the
glory that shall be revealed:

not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind;
3 Neither as being lords over God's heritage, but being ensamples to the flock.

Most pastors have there church open 1 hour a week so is it worth paying someone for volunteers work for 1 hour

How should pastors or leaders within the church handle large gifts: let's say a member were to give a luxury car as a gift to a pastor or a membership to an exclusive country club? Does this ruin their witness if they choose to accept the gift?

Do your best to stay away from ignorant people. Do not feel bad; just consider the source. Pray and move away quickly.

I want the pastor of my church "all in" on teaching and preaching. The amount they are paid at my church is and should be public information and should be plenty to be comfortable and taken care of.
Apologies in advance for the novel but please take this into consideration and if I am wrong correct me gently😮💨
So what was Jesus' salary?

But if the Gospel, to be shared by the wolves in sheep clothing's, what help is there then for the unsaved?

NO
Please read the entire New Testament, not certain verses taken out of context; and you will see the Collections taken up went to the church people for Equality.
***Equality*** And the same in 2 Corinthians 9:9 As it is written: “They have freely scattered their gifts to the poor; their righteousness endures forever."
There are 8 verses saying they met in their homes, not denominational church buildings/ businesses.
But not As much As they like GHB

BecAuse it is right from the horses mouth
How is that any of my business?
I don't think this answers much of the question. For one thing how much is needs met as opposed to having more than the needs.
Also as I remember those in the church of the first century were paid by the church members the money paid by believers in the church not the government.
So is it right for pastors to be getting paid copious amounts that handle far more than their needs by either money from believes tithes and such or government funding which also goes into any and every religious institution even the Satanic church? Just wondering.
Paul was given money by believers for his needs not his wants also he worked outside of spreading the gospel.
And thAt is whAt the blAck pAnthers Are for pAtrolling universities
An average of what everyone in the church makes…
12 tribes of Israel.
11 tribes got land, etc as an inheritance.
Those 11 gave 10% to the 1 without inheritance.
Now that 1 has 110%, right?
Now they give their 10% to God…
Bam! Average and even. No better, no worse, just made whole.
Not a cent for sharing God's word. They aren't supposed to.
How does your paster keep a roof over his head, feed his family and clothe them if the congregation aren't supporting him?
lol... you should try being a full-time pastor with a spouse and kids that study prepares to speak God's word, visits people counsel people, and then have no provision for your family because you are muzzled by others who say you can't eat from your labor. Please consider Paul. He didn't take from certain people or churches like the church in Corinth but he did receive support from the church of Philippi which allowed him to give his time freely to others and perhaps even Corinth.

So you missed all the scripture references? All of them..?
@@HearGodsWord he gets a job like the rest of us, or God takes care of him. He is not to get paid for sharing God's word. He gets enough tithing to take care of all of you. That is what he is supposed to do with that tithing, if you can take care of him. Then also take care of the hungry and the homeless. For they need it more. God takes care of his own. 😢I have been taken care of. No one gave me tithing every week for my God work. God takes care of me. Because I believe in him. Like I am supposed to do. It is written he doesn't get paid for God's work. I read the whole story
