Replay of our EPIC video.. Tom went through and had brought my 1964 Gibson Firebird V back to life after the guitar had been sitting in the case since 1970.. also, a shootout between the 500k (stock) pots vs the 250k pots in his firebird. Check out Tom’s channel if you haven’t already which I’m sure you already have! Subscribe, like, comment.
Now I have an additional channel to watch which means I'll never find time to get chores done. You two are rippin it up. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks so much!!
I love how Uncle Tom just plays smth and it sounds like u listening to a record and he just stops and talks something and go back into it like u just pressed play again. In that regard, he is my biggest influence in the recent time, not just inspiring to play better, but to be it in such a pure and joyful way!!
Hey Justin that's a sweet guitar man! That's cool to hear the difference the pots make between your stock 500ks and Tom's 250ks. Oh yeah, happy belated birthday!
Thanks so much!!
Words of wisdom from Uncle Larry at around 12:28...."Treble is a stimulant"
very cool! ty for sharing! cheers from Maine!
thank you very much for watching buddy!!
Always enjoy the gear maintenance video. Hope you are winterized and ready for a cold week, ours is getting started tonight in north Texas.
Thanks so much!! Yes definitely getting prepared. Going to be cold, stay warm!

Great find find Justin! I like getting educated on the Gibsons... Sounds great...
Thanks buddy!
Did you show him your strat? Glad to see you at Tom’s. He’s such a sweet guy to help you out. ❤
Hey buddy. Not in person yet just some photos. Would love to do a video.. stay tuned..
Thanks 😊
Thanks for watching!
Both of you guys sound so good… that guitar and amp combo!!! Man why play anything else.
Thanks so much! It’s an amazing combo really don’t need anything else!
what amp is that ?@@justinmeyersguitarist
That's at Tom's house. Nice to see his view. Is it loud ?
Firebirds rock
Not loud. Yeah they do! Thanks for watching!
Obviously are very good video and it doesn't hurt having Tom play 🤟Not doubting that pots can make a drastically difference, but two different sets of pickups can be different, two sets of 500k pots can and will read differently/sound differently. The wood in each guitar can make a difference as well. The tone pots, balance of an amps bass/treble/presense can get you close. Both guitars are extremely nice examples.
Thanks, I wouldn’t ever change the pickups on a vintage guitar but that’s just me.
@justinmeyersguitarist I think you misunderstood my point 😃, I was saying/meaning between the two guitars you were giving the shootout with. 100% I would never swap out original and working pickups in a Vintage guitar, especially how much these Birds go for.
A worthy replay if ever there was one!! Made my morning, Justin!! Are you thinking of changing the pots on this old bird?
thank you buddy! No I'm not going to change anything, just keep it stock at 500k use tone control if i need to darken up the tone. i do like the 250k pots though!
Sounds delicious ⭐️✨
Thanks!
It's hard to tell the difference in pots by the time youtube steps on it from way over here. In Tom's hands they both sound amazing. To my old damaged and distant ears the 500 sounds more distorted or compressed like there was a boost, but the 250's sound smoother and more balanced. Is that what you heard in the room?
500k is much brighter
We have that tea towel.
What’s the height you have on your bridge pickup??? It sounds freaking awesome!!!! You lucky guy
thank you buddy i didnt measure the pickup height
@@justinmeyersguitarist, dang! I’d love to know. It sounds awesome!!! lol, your playing and Tom’s doesn’t hurt. I just can’t seem to get my bridge pickup just right
More great stuff, did you have a chance to have a look at the action heights since the last vid? Cheers!
Thanks buddy. I still haven’t yet lol sorry
No Bud Light for you guys…🤣. So fun to see you guys tinkering. Is that head that new Marshall that looks like a real early one?
Yeah it’s a reissue Marshall
Ain't nothing like em' Kalamazoo Firebird, burning still.
For sure!!
Suono meraviglioso ... che Cabinet usi??
what?
Whats cabinet you use…
some bogner cabinet i dont remember@@marcomagnoni7341
Birdmen of Nashville unite. Jack those pickups!
Yeah buddy!!
What is that riff Tom is playing at 6.00 ? Anyone Help? Blanking on it! Driving me nuts!!
Cmon and take a free ride! > Down on Main St lol
OF COURSE🙄!! Edgar Winter group. Cheers Mate@@JerboFotius
You can hear them "Ks"...
Mo' buttah' wiff the 250s...
Did you leave the volume and tone layout original or switch it to the more conventional Les Paul layout?
yes i left mine stock! i figured i can use the tone knob and back it down to 5 or so to roll off high end. i do like the 250k pots tho as well, but i want to leave mine stock
500k all the way for me. Damn!
Thanks for watching!
🔥💥🔥💥
Thanks so much!
Great video. Thanks for sharing. Are you sticking with the 500k or changing to the 250’s?
Thanks buddy. Sticking it out with the stock 500k. I like both 250 + 500 though, both sound good.
Hi, Justin. Great video! What amp are you guys playing through?
Thanks. Was a reissue Marshall jtm studio with pedals
Justin , is Tom plugged into the JTM he has in there ?
Yup
So would recommend swapping the pots in a newer (2019) bird ?
Both sound good, I’m sticking it out with the stock 500k pots, use tone control if needing to get darker tone.
@@justinmeyersguitarist I think that’s a smart move. Thanks Justin.
How is that marshall not blowing out the windows??
It’s not that loud
