Tommy and Justin make a great duo! Your playing sounds absurdly great as always Justin! The 500k kinda sounded better to my ears, and you’ve got a tone knob right there too!
Both of these Birds are crazy sweet! Not sure if I would change pots or not, but I would really love to play either one of them! Great video Justin, it's cool seeing you and Tom chillin' and enjoying each other's time and guitars, thanks for showing us out here in internetland. I like Tom's closing comment "let's drink some beers"!
great sounds with both sets of pots. You can always roll off the 500k pot but the general character will still sit in a higher freq range than the 250k. I probably wouldnt change a vintage FB V but would love to see the option for 250k on the ones gibson custom is making
Aloha I have an Epiphone Joe Bonamasa Firebird 1. I was interested in what Uncle Larry did. 250k for volume and tone? And what size capacitor? You help will be greatly appreciated. Mahalo. Victor Beebe
So because the voice audio was so low, I'm unsure how to rewire,,,then, I haven't had the back plate off in thirty five years, I don't even know what's in there! I just know it's a monster!
Anyone know definitely if the original FB pickups were Alnico 2, or Alnico V magnets? Almost all of the reproductions are using Vs, but I’ve heard the originals were IIs
I have a 2016 Les Paul traditional, the pots are awful. Rolling off the volume, it doesn't clean up at all until I get down to 3-4 on the knob. Other than this it's perfect!
@@chrisv2557 you can still use the tone control. I roll off highs with an eq pedal as well. It’s a matter of having the right cap that can mimic a sound you want.
@@chrisv2557 ash try fender and steel saddles with a 1 Meg pot on my tele tone control .00022only on the bridge only. Use an eq pedal and it sounds amazing. That cap just changes the bid character.
@@Dbj5555555 sounds like a very bright set up, unless u re running it through a dark amp. And then use an Eq to take the treble off? My tele is bright enough with 250 pots

Very cool. I love these kind of non invasive experiments. Great way to really dial in your tone.

Thanks so much buddy!!
Another great Tommy B video. I might have to try a firebird again after watching this.

yeah exactly. thats why im leaving mine stock, roll off the tone knob to darken it up. both are great tho
Those crazy Birdmen of Nashville at it again!
Oh yeah!!!
I prefer the brighter tone. At least in the recording. I would rather roll it back if needed instead of not having it when I need it. YMMV
I support this statement
What do I think you ask? I think both are great! It just depends on what you're looking for and/or what the song or riff needs!
Cool! Totally agree buddy!
Maybe if I were in the room I would feel differently but I like the 500 for the neck and the 250 on the bridge.
Cool!
Pretty sure I liked the opposite! 😊
I guess that Peterson tuner just has a mic and everyone stops talking. That’s pretty cool as long as everyone’s quiet. Red snark man myself
I think they both are great depending what you are recording. you need to just have both.

What?
Im not sure about Firebird pickups but a lot of P90 guitars use 300k pots
Great work!! ✨🍻✨ Cheers!!
Thanks so much!! Appreciate it!

So vol and tone pots to 250?
Hi Tommy what capacitors do u use on the 250 pots?

Yeah reissues are so different
Make sure both pickups are connected to the outside lug of the volume controls and not the center terminals. Many are wired wrong from the factory.

The first guitar sounded better in my ears.
1 Meg and adjust the tone to your what sounds good to you?
500k is already very bright with firebird pickups

@@Dbj5555555 you'll never need a tone that bright/icepicky with the tone knob all the way up
