Me Playing Guitar When I Was 12 Years Old
I got to say , that opening acoustic piece you played was indeed excellent, and what a great tone that Gibson has ,
That Les Paul is beautiful!
A. Sht. Load of. Practice to get. Here.
Love you dude. Keep it real.
Justin's got the best guitar takes on YT, thanks dude!
no one says that , why you stirin shit
I’ll add my two cents to this. I’ve heard great players (first chair concertmaster of the PSO, for example) pick up a student’s instrument and make it shine. Would they sound better on a better instrument? Sure but the great players make any instrument sound pretty damn good. Interpretation is the biggest impression the common ear latches onto. Just watch the videos of EVH in an airport playing a stock Strat or VH playing a crap student’s practice piano on his 1986 return to Russia. Now, as you progress, you need a great instrument so you can extract nuances from it that a poor quality instrument can’t phonate. As you can tell, I love this stuff. Anyway, nice video Justin!
Better guitar/amp will most likely be more inspiring to play...which means more play, practice, joy.... My son got his first real guitar...LP Studio also at 14...it transformed his interest/practice....became a local prodigy.... head turner at guitar shops as a kid....winning talent competitions...playing with adult/pro musicians at 17. He turns 30 next week...still has/plays that Studio.... a keeper for life for him.
Maybe so but there are some really great cheap guitars that feels great to play. If it's setup right that is. At the same time an expensive guitar can have a bad setup and feel less great to play.
Buy whatever the hell you want.
Get the best gear you can get your hands on. That said the best investment you will make is on you. Spend money on lessons and practice. That will make you sound great no matter what you’re playing! Ha ha! I made this comment before I finished watching… That’s what I get
The berhinger vintage delay is an exact replica of the old boss analogy delay. It’s $20. Sounds exactly the same. If you’re just a bedroom player it’s great. Just a cheap housing.
A must know technique. I need this vid
Awesome playing man. You do that amp the justice it deserves.
I played my buddy's '90s Matchless combo the year it came out. It was a God like experience I never experienced again. My Dr Z Maz 18 MkII I just purchased used is the closest I've come since then.
There would be no feud if Tom had just ignored the troll.
I’ve settled in the middle. The cheap guitars didn’t do it for me. The ultra expensive (over $5,000) guitars didn’t quite do it either. I settled (currently) on the Wolfgangs (Peavey/EVH). They aren’t cheap (used USA made) but they’re not astronomical either. Eddie got it right.
Fire intro 🔥
A burst is a dream guitar for anyone playing, great point about JIs success in music to allow it, the rest is sour grapes never a good look
Well said
how do you know the strings are worn out?
The sound they produce becomes duller and less rich of harmonics compared to the sound of a fresh set of strings. But be careful as all the very new strings but the flat wounded will squeak a lot if you slide your fingers on them so unless you have an almost perfect technique to put a new set of strings just before you are going to record or perform in public can be detrimental, particularly in the case you are going to record as those squeacks that maybe can go unnoticed or be forgiven in a live performance will be permanently there and very noticeable on the recorded track (don't ask me how I know that... 😁). Your goal should be to change the strings as they are too worn out knowing that they will give their best in the first 1/3 of their useful life (past the first 2 or 3 hours of playing to let the squeaks disappear) without prolonging too much their life as the quality and heallth of the strings affects a lot the sound of a guitar, the same cheap guitar can sound pretty good with fresh and good quality strings and sound completely dull with cheap and worn out strings.
In the beginning of the video you admit you don’t really know what’s going on with this drama. Then why are you commenting on it? To mine for clicks, the same thing you are accusing this guy of doing. The guy is doing a public service by exposing the nonsense and mythology and hype of these vintage guitars. Oh, you can only get this sound if you have the 1958 potentiometer which is failing and the pick up magnet which has lost polarity in combination with the random amount of windings on each pick up. But then the guys who built the damn guitars who are still alive tell you that they didn’t build them that well and they are very surprised at all the hype. So then emerald city guitars tells you well, The guitars are so great because they weren’t built that well, but the guitars are so great because they were built so great. They get you both ways. We know exactly how and of what materials these guitars were made. They have been x-rayed, analyzed, reanalyzed with a spectrometer 1000 times. The Japanese built them better than the Americans in the 80s for God sake. There are Mexican and Korean and Japanese telecaster’s built better than the real things at this point. There is no mystery, the things just aren’t that great and when you get your hands on one, you often find that the fret work isn’t that good, The playability is very disappointing and the sound is nothing special on 90% of these guitars. Yet emerald city tells you you have to have one so take out a mortgage against your house, so we can sell you one for $500,000 and then have a Rolex broker meet us at the hotel room afterwards so we can each get a Rolex off the obviously overvalued piece of wood We just sold you. Which is exactly what they do in their videos. This scam is nothing new and we have seen it in great detail, particularly with these brokerage houses that bought up all the strads. “ Only the Stradivarius can sound this way because it was built in Cromona Italy, where the trees were so affected by volcanic ash that it causes the top wood to resonate at a frequency, unmatched by any violin that could possibly be built anywhere else“ which is nonsense.
Happy Birthday Justin. You have a nice gear collection for such a young guy.
My Father told me Chet Atkins was the best so I had to buy a Chet Atkins Gretsch. Mine was made in Japan.
Hey Justin. It’s freaking cold even down here.
I love that Justin lick at the end hahah
Cool !! Thanks .. I'm stealing it now !! Very nice
I use a TC Electronic Tuner, a Boss Angry Driver JB-2 with the two way switch so I use the Blues Driver side for my rocking rhythm tone and for solos I switch to the Angry Charlie side and a TC Electronic Flashback delay and a GE-7 as my boost "Bukovac" style, pinch of reverb from the amp and the amp is a Victory V40 head and 2x12 cab. I have a massive pedalboard to with 16 pedals on it 😂
Great playing
Great story and what a great lifetime memory! Too cool man.
Their inventory management is aweful. I can show them the item on my phone as being in stock. They go in the back, cant find it. Sales guy looks on his computer..."Let me check some other places back there..." 20 minutes later he came back with the looper. I think they must have a large disorganized pile of gear back there. Almost the same procedure when I wanted a couple of other items over the years. Its all OK cause I just play a few more guitars while waiting. I have shopped the used stuff on line, call and ask the clerk to describe the condition or send you some more pics to help your decision..
Fascinating I didn’t realize you worked at Toms store, would love to hear more about that
Only love every time, brother
I met Joe Perry at a high end mall in Cali years ago. Aerosmith was on tour at the time. He was really kool and down to earth type guy. Same with George Lynch. I ran into him at a guitar shop and he actually showed me some of his riffs! Both guys were very kool!
DOD overdrive preamp 250
Great story, it's always nice to hear about someone about meeting one of their hero's and not being disappointed.
Man, when I was working in a music store in the 90’s I had the time of my life!! It really was so much fun. The stories, and the stars I met are plenty! I got stories lol
I got to hang out with Brad and Derek St. Holmes at a private party for PRS guitars. They were both super cool. Brad answered all my stupid fanboy questions and was really nice to me. When i started playing guitar in 1978, Aerosmith were huge. Been a fan ever since.
Cool story, it must have been so much fun working for Tom and his buddy in their shop. Great move going in there, networking, and getting your career started. Homeskoolin' is how I found you, drinking beer with Uncle Larry. Love your playing too. You've got it!
Thank u buddy!
O-H !
I O
I agree with on Fender, Vox, and Marshall amps being the unique amp sounds to start with as a foundation. I also would include Orange in that list. We use it on Oasis covers in my band and the tone is spot on with what we are going for.
The name “Second Gear” is so Uncle Larry isn’t it? We know classic cars are also a passion of his. This was a great story and can’t wait to hear some more!
Thanks buddy
I had a cool encounter with Brad Whitford at the video shoot for Living on the Edge. There was a bunch of Les Pauls on stands just behind the stage and I was looking at them. All of a sudden I hear close to my ear “boy I bet you would love to have one of those Joe Perry Les Pauls” it was Brad with Tom Hamilton standing next to him. I responded with, actually you are my more favorite guitar player so I rather have one of yours. And Tom punched him on the arm and said See people know.
Cool
❤Tom I love this story
Thanks SeeC!!

❤hi Justin
Not everyone jumps to the pool like you did. All the respet my friend! You totally deserve everything you are getting 🤘🏻
