Great review! I've seen a couple videos on the whoop and this one provides a fresh and up to date perspective. I also enjoyed your takeaway - expensive gadgets are not necessary to improve your habits!
If anyone else is considering Whoop still, here's something that might change your mind. The heart rate tracker is not accurate at all for certain types of training, such as intervals, weight lifting etc. It struggles to record beats per min peaks and gives you a completely wrong calorie burn estimate, avg beats per min, max heart rate, etc. Even with the Strength Trainer program which I've used for a long time it fails hard and will estimate your Strain score well under what it really is. Shit in = shit out. If you do a bit of weight lifting your strain and recovery will just be random at this point which takes away the core function of the app. An example of this is a few typical weightlifting workouts I've done wearing my Polar H10, Apple watch 9 and Whoop. 81 minutes traditional weightlifting workout. Polar (chest strap) = 138 bpm average, 178 max, 955 calories Apple watch 9 = 138 bpm average, 176 max, 856 active calories Whoop (with strength trainer) = 108 bpm average, 157 max, 237 calories. I'm wearing the wrist band exactly where it's supposed to be if you're wondering. Bicep band is somehow worse. Wrist bands in general have a hard time with this. The Apple watch series 9 is probably the most accurate on the market right now, with Garmin close up. Whoop did an update to their heart rate algorithm about 1 month ago which made it a lot better, but still nowhere good enough. TLDR; Whoop can't keep up with other wrist fitness trackers. Its core functions (Strain & Recovery) are just random numbers because it doesn't have the right numbers in from you.
Great video, Shane. My biggest selling point for the WHOOP was that it doesn't have a screen, but your example of looking at a screen first thing in the morning really gave me a wake-up call. Your video also made me realize that I don't need to track my sleep or treat my health and wellness like a scientific study. As you said, it's important to listen to your body, especially if you're like me and just training at a recreational level. So, now it's off, and I will probably be using my old Apple Watch (or maybe buy a new one with the money I save from canceling my WHOOP membership) to track my workouts.
great video. Ive had a whoop for a few months now and have noticed similar results with waking up feeling like crap and my whoop saying that it was the best sleep ever. I noticed if I drink a bottle of water before going to sleep this also increases my sleep score. What I like most is the data it provides over my applewatch for tracking activities. I think its just laid out better. But would I say go spend $300+ for a better activity tracker? No. I think for what you get, it should cost less.
The best thing anyone can do is limit your outside of work / personal time any-screen viewing to 1 hour per day. Fill the time gained productively and wisely. You will feel better than you could ever imagine.
Weird, none of the other reviww videos ive come across so far mentioned about the FUCKING SUBSCRIPTION BASED USAGE. Wtf?! Thank you for the honest review
Nice and logical video. It’s strange how devices become mainstream because some celebrity is wearing it & everyone just follows suit without any logic.
Super Video. I took of my whoop because of the Strain Score is much too high for my Activitylevel. Ím stressed everytime i looked to it and Think: Oh no, i have to move more. Iam too lazy. But as a father of 4 i can Tell you: Iam Not.

I like wearing watches so this helps me wear my watches and have the wristband on my other wrist.
Very professional video. If you keep with consistent uploads, I see you easily blowing up over time!
Thanks! I really appreciate that and glad you enjoyed it
100% agree.

Apple better than garmin lmao
@@username-kn3oh for traditional weightlifting training the heart rate tracker gets peaks more accurate than Garmin on the series 9 rn
Which garmin?
You’ve saved me a few quid with this review 🤝

Excellent video and subscribed.
Thanks for the sub I really appreciate it!
Good Video. Thought of dropping the idea to buy the whoop but stick to fitness.
Great video. One week in. Not sure whether should invest in myself for once in my life or finish at end of free trial. God knows
Let me know what you decide

Why you're not wearing this in the"actual video of you in the gym"?
Hey, that's not a sleep score, it just shows if you how many hours you slept compared to your sleep goal
Yeah...I agree and my three month video report runs close to yours.
Just watched your video and enjoyed! Subscribed to the channel too. Thanks for dropping a comment
Also you track the habits to see how they impact your recovery
I agree
Great video …
Thanks!
What nobody mentions about the free trial, is that they send you a used band. 🤮
the website literally says it.. tip: you have to be able to read
The band is new but the tracker is refurbished
I’m glad I didn’t get one ….. expensive prices / and now it’s one more guy said isn’t worth it
Great video but product is far too expensive.
apple watch and polar h10 so enough people live without it before 2010. you only need good heart rate everything fall part
Fuck subscription models. Garmin FTW.
