I chose to pursue a software engineer career instead, but I'll never forget those offline tournaments I participated and my game against Fnatic right after they won the first "championship". (I stole a blue from Cyanide on that match xD That was my greatest achievement ever :P)
The TSM fans trying to hurt Thorin by leaving negative comments, getting this video better engagement in the algorithm and ultimately helping him. Gotta love the irony.
Warms my heart every time Kikis comes up. Sure, people talk about him in a rather scuffed way nowadays but the dude has had a pretty wack career. Don’t know if it’s team problems or if he likes shooting himself in the foot but UOL had a clear shot for winning a split vs FNC and also making worlds that year but then Kikis left. His jungle was nutty back then imo, some people say coinflip, but I say ”a man of the people”. The fact that he got both G2 and UOL through challenger to spring finals and VIT to worlds. Give him some cred.
Corki azir matchup is weird. They are both similar champs - mostly bring heavy sustained dps ap dmg (with some poke elements), can engage or follow up engage (corki only when package is up), and both have dashes so they are not super easy to gank and they scale very well. Imo corki outscales azir because his main source of dmg (auto with sheen proc that did crit) is more consistent than azirs (w you can reposition only when q is up). Azir has better more complex kit, that's why on highest level he can do more and is more flexible. And obviously breakpoints who won when changed as both champs got nerfed, builds changed etc. Imo on that patch corki could be seen as good into azir because the glass cannon manamune setup does more dmg than azir even with 3 soldiers.
Hey Dom, George here :) I am a really big fan of yours, but less for the content as a whole than more for your personality and your way to handle things. I love your personality and your way to communicate, if you'd just talk in a manner that makes it actually nice to listen to. Best wishes from germany :P
FNC were salty that Caps left them for G2. They started scrimming together in summer when emotions calmed down and FNC realized Caps was right, fits better with G2 and they fixed their own issues and became top team again with Nemesis.
@@KyleAPemberton Veteran was on Facecheck once, Dom and he did some of their LEC live viewing streams together, but I don't think Veteran was on Crackdown or Dom on Elitists United.
I get that Thorin is trying to portray that there's efficient ways to practice, or that sometimes more is less in terms of burning out. Which are fair points. Except Koreans aren't interested in the longevity of their players. They just want to win. So if it means using up a pro for 2 years in a 14 hour grind/day and then tossing him off the street because there's another 16 year old solo Q prodigy then that's the way they go about it. But that is not why G2 is having success right now. Less practice did not make them the "dominant" team. The ONLY reason why KR started losing, is because Riot did not want another Starcraft scenario happen where it's KR dominance year in and year out. So they slowly but surely removed vision everywhere. No more green wards, limit the amount of pink wards, limit the radius of the wards, get rid of wards on jungler items... less vision means more gambling, which led to the success of the skirmish fight all the time style perfected by the LPL. G2's way of playing of applying pressure constantly would not be possible without these vision gaps. League is definitely more exciting and interesting with the current format but to imply practicing less means better results is just disingenuous.
Мотов Василий I mean if you aren’t interested in the longevity players then playing that much is essentially like cramming for a test the night before. When you cram, you don’t care about retaining the information long term, just getting the grade on the test. It works. I mean that was clear during Korea’s reign of dominance. Just not the most healthy or efficient. Also Korea is just an entirely different beast in general. It wouldn’t work in the West because western players have an entirely different mindset and attitude when it comes to life.
@@wyatt5167 Not healthy, for sure. Not efficient? Only if you plan on keeping the same players for more than 2 years. Due to the insane amount of talent that pops out of solo Q and their excellent player development programs (trainees), by the time the raw talent gets fished out of gen pop, they are good to within a year or two, to match the burnout rate. So if you ask me, that is actually the epitome of efficiency as the team retains these kids at their prime before letting them go (aside from a few freaks like Faker). That said, the whole point is that Thorin implied indirectly that because G2 is succeeding right this moment, that somehow this is due to more "efficient" practices. When in reality like I pointed out, it's all about Riot sabotaging Korea by removing vision. With perfect vision at all times, it becomes a game of minor leads through laning and transferring those minor leads into even more vision control, into the classic chess like game KR perfected for 5 years in a row. No amount of efficient practice was going to beat that, because the KRs drilled these vision control macro game crazily. The green ward removal was big, the limited pink ward was big, jungle items without wards was big, making the ward vision smaller was big.. this is why KR lost, because they could not adapt from their tried and true slow vision game when there were obvious blind spots. This isn't to say the Western teams did not improve at all, which they did tremendously. But honestly, if we were to go back to the old days, my money would still be on KR.
Well Riot didn't necessarily care about which region is dominating i don't think. You have to imagine from their point of view how do we make our esport more exciting so we get better viewership. Well most people won't enjoy sitting for 30 mins only for the game to be decided over 1 fight, so let's encourage fighting and laning to be more important. If you want to compare to Starcraft, when you watch Starcraft you know the match can end at 4 mins or it could go to 30. And it all depends on how a player decides to play from minute 1 so the game remains fresh in a way. I think that's what Riot were going for. Give options, sure you can just play slowly and scale passively, or you can play aggressive and either make it work and get a massive advantage or it fails and you chose to gamble, so now deal with your failings. Korea didn't want to gamble and thus they became a lot more of a coinflip because they will only look as good as their opponents allow them to.
I'm not sure if this is something you do already but maybe ask the guest before you start if they have any topics to discuss about so they can have a minute off camera to think about any interesting topics like
