Desert Shores Las Vegas Neighborhood Tour - Community Built around Lakes

Kathryn takes us on a tour of Desert Shores, which is a 682-acre master-planned community in the foothills of northwest Las Vegas. The community is about 20 minutes from the Las Vegas Strip and includes roughly 3,500 homes along the eastern edge of Summerlin. Desert Shores is a resort-style community featuring four man-made lakes, a lagoon-style swimming pool, sand beaches, palm trees, and boat launches.
Desert Shores began development in 1988 and includes a master association as well as more than twenty residential neighborhoods with various sub-associations. The neighborhoods feature housing ranging from condos, to median-priced single-family homes, to gated luxury villas. Waterfront homes all have direct access to the community lakes and optional private docks.
This desert oasis community caters to residents interested in extensive outdoor recreation opportunities. Desert Shores’ four lakes are all open for residents to enjoy. Each lake has a designated boat ramp and dock, and the lakes are annually stocked with fish. The community is also home to numerous waterfowl and offers several miles of walking and biking paths. The lakes and recreation facilities are private and only for use by community residents and their guests.
The swim lagoon is one of the most beautiful features of Desert Shores. This 400,000-gallon swimming pool was built to resemble a tropical lagoon and is surrounded by a sand beach and palm trees. The pool is part of the larger Lagoon Park, which includes a basketball and sand volleyball court, horseshoe pit, picnic pavilions, playground, and access to paddle boats and kayaks.
Desert Shores offers several dining options within the community as well as nearby. The community features outdoor restaurants and wine bars along the main Regatta Drive, including the award-winning Marche Bacchus French Bistro and Wine Market. The Village Pub also offers a fun atmosphere with casual, delicious pub food. Just outside the community is the BabyStacks Café, referred to by many locals as “the best breakfast in Vegas.”
For residents interested in hosting events, Desert Shores also features a 2,100 square-foot clubhouse that accommodates up to 100 guests. The clubhouse includes prep kitchens, banquet style seating, and spacious entertainment rooms. The venue also features terraces on the main lake and hosts numerous private parties as well as special community events.
For residents looking to explore beyond the Desert Shores community, you’ll find yourself just 15 minutes from downtown Summerlin. Summerlin is home to more than 125 retail stores and numerous world-class dining opportunities, as well as urban entertainment and community events. Summerlin also backs up to the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, featuring 26 hikes and trails as well as a 13-mile scenic drive, camping, and year-round recreation opportunities.
Desert Shores is a great community for individuals and families interested in resort-style living, specifically waterfront recreation on the four private lakes. This community offers fewer fitness and golf amenities, but gym and golf course opportunities abound in nearby Summerlin and Las Vegas.
There are homes in Desert Shores to fit many budgets, from condos in the $200,000s to luxury villas priced over $2 million. The median home sales price is $386,250 and HOA fees vary by neighborhood, ranging from about $25 to $280 per month.
