Here in Connecticut, USA, we have a lot of towns with small shops. Finding that special item for someone is so much fun. I have found lots of unique items, and hand made items are always appreciated. The small shop owners are so friendly and you get that personal connection that you don't get with on-line shopping. Thank you Georgie for reminding us to visit local small shops.
THANK YOU, Georgie ! Wonderful video. In my town of Fairbanks, Alaska we have a little Antique Shoppe with 20 vendors (myself included) called Blue Door Antiques. We hope our local residents will support us this season.
Thank you for this. I lived in Froome for a while nannying for the family that ran sofaworks. Lovely children. Froome is the one place I always wanted to settle. But didn't - I live in New Zealand. I understand that it has become very popular and expensive. So I couldn't afford to live there now anyway. Just as well - I would be constantly spending money in those lovely shops. Thank you for bringing back many happy memories. I still love Froome. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to see some of it again.❤
Georgie, this was so quaint and "human sized," and lovely. A fairy village with so many handmade and thoughtfully chosen wares. Thank you for pushing back against the grinding machinery of big box commerce that flattens one!
What a great idea Georgi! Love meeting w a friend and taking a brisk walk around small shops and stopping fr a hot coffee especially this time of year! Seeing all the holiday decorations and talking to people. That’s what this season is all about, getting together with friends and seeing people. Great reminder to step away fr the computer and yo not just to buy anything. A small thoughtful gift for loved ones is always appreciated.
Another reason as if I needed more , why I am such a fan of you Georgie ! I completely agree with all that you have said so brilliant here : Shop LOCAL ! I used to have Shop myself which I ran for 14 years, we love our communities and Shop keepers try and always buy interesting and necessary things for our lovely customers to enjoy ❤ so put the Computers away and go shopping in person. It will make you feel happy and mean you will keep your local Community thriving . Don’t let Amazon be more important than The Amazon ! Bravo Georgie ! I was in Frome Wed and Thurs I can vouch for how wonderful it is there ! ❤
Well you were in my pocket Saturday here in Edmonds Washington....gifts of watercolor bookmarks, Paperwhite bulbs and books at small shops were purchased plus a stop at a bakery for a sausage roll and coffee with my sister🎁💚pure joy ...
Recently found your channel and what a joy it’s been. This video is inspiring. I’ve been feeling a little glum of late - you’re a little reminder of the joy in little things. Thank you for lovely videos that have brightened up my week 🎄💫
I haven’t done the BF for many years. And I DO live in a small tourist town on Lake Michigan in the states, that has a cute little bunch of shops that I haven’t frequented in a few years. So off I go one day soon. You’ve inspired me! Ty
Brilliant video Georgie and a great reminder to us all. We have the fabulous market town of Clitheroe in Lancashire which is full of independent shops. Great places to buy presents, including independent record shop, butchers, bakers, fish monger, coffee roaster, wine merchants, market and brewery as well as loads of places to have a coffee or lunch. Sadly though no book shop.
Thank you for reminding me of a lovely family holiday, many years ago, near Frome and visiting the wonderful shops. Looks like they are even better now.
I absolutely love this, I don't have many gifts to buy this year and caring responsibilities mean I can't get to actual shops, but this is a brilliant reminder that I can support the indy shops online too, just have to be a bit more intentional about it!
I used to work in Frome, lovely to see it looking so great and lots of new shops, the mens clothes being made onsite I especially loved. And I would have bought up half of Neighbour too!
we went to niwaki sale at their store in Shaftesbury last Sat and there was a craft fair at the same place. I met your potter chap Johnathon Garratt. his studio is jolliffe's cottage, Stour row, near Shaftesbury sp7 0qw and his hand made pots are lovely. He said to thank you for the mention and laughed at my golden shovel. I had fun :)
Hi Georgie, thanks for this lovely tour! The shops are quite unique and cute. This is why I love the UK so much. Was in Birmingham three weeks ago. I enjoyed the British esthetic tremendously. Can't wait to return ❤❤! You have such a caring heart! Continued prosperity to you and your family! xx❤
How timely, we are coming to stay in sherborne tomorrow and spend the weekend exploring finishing with Frome Market on Sunday purely due to your previous video xx
Georgie, all of those shops were absolutely adorable! Thank you so much for taking us along with you. I too am in the States and the girl from California is correct, those type of shops are far and few between. I’m going to shop “ small business Saturday” and avoid Black Friday. I love your pearls of wisdom. ❤️🙏😊
Such lovely shops! I found many similar ones when I visited England and it was so much fun. Unfortunately, where I live, such shops are very rare. Most shops are huge chains and as you said it makes shopping very boring. There are several shops I have very fond memories of, where I used to go with my mother when I was a child. And now they don't exist anymore. Thank you for your contribution and active encouragement to keep local business in town!
Hitchin is my favourite local market town. Next weekend I'm going to explore Ampthill and Woburn, to see what interesting things I can find for presents. Thanks for the reminder! Liz
An absolutely inspirational blog!! Obviously Frome has moneyed residents for independent shops to thrive- but how lovely!! I’ve subscribed so I’ll be watching again n again!! Sending love from Nottingham 🧑🏼🦳🤡❤️👍
Thanks for the tag along! I’m not at all a Black Friday buyer. Never have been BUT Tuesday we got4 beautiful foldable heavy duty outdoor Adirondack chairs and 2 tables for 1/3 the regular price! We have been looking at these chairs for years and years but wouldn’t pay the money for them. So excited to get them. We retired rural out of state and there are no small shops here. I so miss being close enough to those small town shops to visit them. My mom and grandmother is/was from England and loved the old shops there.
Good for you Georgie...I always shop in my nearest town Tipperary here in southern Ireland..much better than going to the city but they do need our support..thank you for highlighting
A delight to come shopping with you, Georgie, thank you. I don't know Frome, even though I am a Somerset girl (Quantocks) but you've piqued my interest! So many lovely shops and beautiful buildings.
This is just what I needed to see today, I'm going to go after Thanksgiving and have a look around my small Alaska community, feel the spirit and magic of Christmas in the air and all about, thank you and may your Christmas be bright and beautiful ❤️
YES! To small shops! I get to shop in Berkeley (4th Street) and Oakland (Maison d’Etre) and Carmel. Thank you, Georgie!! I just ordered a gorgeous tote from Sherlock & Pages “Long live the hedgerows”. Perfect for a gardener friend. Hmmm….Think I need one for myself, too….😁
What a wonderful place, wish we’d known about Frome last weekend! Although we had a fabulous weekend away in Tetbury and did support the local retailers there and in Bath. Need to visit Frome next year!!!🎄🤞🏻😍 Thanks 💫

I love these videos of you doing the Christmas shopping. I came past near you in the summer and we went to the shops you went to last year it was lovely. Thank you for sharing this video ❤
Thank you for this video, because I have been a person who has had my own 5 arts and crafts shops (one at a time), selling local work by local makes in West Devon, England. But I had to close the shops (one of which I had a tea shop in) as I could not afford the rent anymore, and folk were just not coming in and buying things due to the internet buying. We have Hatherleigh, and Okehampton nearby - both of which need your support for the independent shops to keep going - Hatherleigh has a market every Tuesday. Blessings from Jilly & Madge. xxx
Fantastic! Love a local shop. Two of my favourite local place in Hertfordshire here in the UK are St Albans and Hertford. Full of wonderful independent shops, steeped in history and many fine places to eat! what could be better?
This Friday will be my last day in my little indie vintage shop in Somerton after 9 years trading - all the fittings going to general auction in Glastonbury. I have had to submit to doing a black Friday sale, merely because my house is now stacked to the ceiling with all the shop stock.
My local shops in France are so different, we have artisan markets, and Christmas markets. I'm so looking forward to coming back in April, although my husband is getting worried at my list.🤫
Wow Frome looks so cute and lovely...I don't do internet shopping at all..I hate it!! It's so beautiful to see those cute shops and coffee places...great video!! I am a tit bit jealous...don't have those cute streets here in sa.
Hello! I so enjoyed this, it’s been my intention to use local shops this year. It’s the first of yours I’ve seen so I’ve now subscribed. We have some good little market towns in Norfolk like Aylsham, Holt, Wymondham.
Loved this. So wish it was longer tho. Such lovely shops. Not enough near me tho😩, but a few Do have a great local chocolate shop. 😂 ( Donaldson) in indiana so important to shop, local and keep these places in business
Black Friday has always been a con. You’re so right about lovely independent shops, you often see things you never knew existed. Tarporley in Cheshire is 15 minutes from me, they have some lovely shops albeit it doesn’t compare to the choices you have in Frome.
Absolutely beautiful. Unfortunately our small towns in Canada are severely lacking the charm of this small town! Big box stores have caused the demis big many lovely small independent stores! I am so jealous!!!😊
Filled with shame that I don't shop at Frome but instead head to boring Bath. I'm off to get all my xmas stuff from Frome - fab video. PS going to see how much that wonderful tailor would charge for a hand made piece for my son.
I love your videos but they make me very sad😢 England has the best village shops and high street shopping. I do wish I could live there. I visit often but have to come back to big box stores in US…. Thanks for taking us with you!
Shame on me, dear Georgie, I've bought on internet today ... But it was spring bulbs from Peter Nyssen... Can you pardon me ??? 😂😂😂 Thanks a lot for this little sunny afternoon in the real life❤

Absolutely beautiful. Unfortunately our small towns in Canada are severely lacking the charm of this small town! Big box stores have caused the demis big many lovely small independent stores!
I am so jealous!!!😊
Frome is so worth a little trip x
Now those small town stores are being hit again by the Canada Post strike!
Tewkesbury is a fantastic little town for independent shops.
Yes - great recommendation x
One thing I dont like is shopping on line I like to see the item and its great to experience the shop and people who run the shop
yes true x
Ramsbottom in Lancashire is lovely
Also excellent name for a place x
Thank you
You’re welcome x
P.S I meant STATIONERY, not stationary...although I am sure the shop with writing supplies doesn't move either:)
😂😂😂
Filled with shame that I don't shop at Frome but instead head to boring Bath. I'm off to get all my xmas stuff from Frome - fab video. PS going to see how much that wonderful tailor would charge for a hand made piece for my son.
Have a lovely time x
I love your videos but they make me very sad😢 England has the best village shops and high street shopping. I do wish I could live there. I visit often but have to come back to big box stores in US…. Thanks for taking us with you!
you're so welcome x
Brilliant
thank you x
I live in Shrewsbury Shropshire , a market town that needs this support due to it starting to change . (
i've always wanted to visit Shrewsbury x
Shame on me, dear Georgie, I've bought on internet today ... But it was spring bulbs from Peter Nyssen... Can you pardon me ??? 😂😂😂 Thanks a lot for this little sunny afternoon in the real life❤
