- Style icon and founder of the iconic brand Shabby Chic Rachel Ashwell has moved back from the USA to the UK and set up home in the gorgeous Meadow Manor not far from us in Somerset. I'm a great admirer of her aesthetic, her fascinating career and the way she's taken her business in directions which interest her over the years.
Join me on a tour looking at the clever details of her home, the way she keeps it comfortable for her own life but ready at the drop of a hat to be used for photographing her work and collections she makes in collaboration with others.
What a lovely morning! I left inspired and so pleased that she chose sunny Somerset for her base. I'm making a list of plants for her, and suppliers for her garden so watch this space I hope this will be the first of many visits up the road for coffee, chat, and good ideas.

Shabby Chic is unapologetically feminine, restful, and beautiful without banging us over the head with do’s and don’t’s. A perfect blend of Japanese wabi-sabi and old European tradition ❤

Such a gift to see Rachel again and listen to her. I've been a devoted fan since 1993. I'm from California, moved to Oregon. On a trip back to la, I took my shabby chic book and went to the Montana store in Santa Monica hoping to meet her and get an autograph. She was out of town, but I so loved her store. She had a vast collection of mercury glass and gorgeous fabrics. 😍

I’ve modified my shabby chic esthetic somewhat, but I still love Rachel. She opened my eyes to letting me let my house reflect the real me.
The random artwork on the floor boards is such a good idea, it can cover any imperfection..genius!! I’m going to give this a go in my bedroom. ❤

The best lesson I learned, including embracing imperfections, was leaning a beautiful mirror VS hanging it. It takes a grand piece and makes it approachable and romantic instead of stiff and too formal.

Beautiful gift to give, was delighted you gave the whole plant, never thought of that before. Love her style and have been Shabby Chic for over twenty five years. I wish we could of seen the whole living room and her bedroom, more of the kitchen and possibly her garden. Please go back if possible.

I’m a huge Rachel Ashwell fan! I have four of her books that I display on tables etc. I still look at them and they inspire me. I’m not a trend follower and I’m so grateful there are still creative souls out in the world who stay true to themselves and don’t get confused about what they love and what brings them joy. Not based on fads but what makes your heart smile. Here’s to Rachel Ashwell!🎉🎉🎉

What a happy surprise to see Rachel Ashwell again. Way back in the 90's hers was the only show and voice on interior design on cable TV before the internet. I would have been happier to hear Rachel take us on a tour of her own house herself... I am nearing the end of the video and i have hardly heard Rachel

Thank you for making a video and to her for sharing her home. When I was first married 23 yrs ago, I fell in love with her bedding. Every chance I could, I would buy another set. My farming/hunting/military husband would be so annoyed to have to sleep in powder blue roses!😂😂😂 I figured if I got blue, he wouldn't mind as much. I still have every piece of bedding.❤

What a treat this is. I am a designer of a certain age. I have come full circle on almost all trends. I am so happy to feel her style come to my workroom again, because my personal home has so much of her in it. She always looks fresh in any mix I do and live. It is lovely to see her back in her home country. I have lived in many of the city’s she has worked in Southern California. She will be missed here, but she looks so happy to be back to where she started, if even for a little while. Thank you for sharing.

Loved this tour. I decorate with dark colors, so I was especially excited to see the dark wood patches painted. So darling! I love her floral fabrics and wallpapers. She has such pretty collections- what a treat to see them all!

I’ve loved Shabby Chic since I first learned of and saw it. I could never afford her wares from her stores, but I took the ideas into thrift stores, Walmart and local shops. I’m leaning towards a more minimal look these days, but the colors, and distressed furniture and loved tchotchkes that I’ve kept are still shabby. It’s a little bit more challenging to make a brand new, bland , 1 bdrm apartment shabby, but I’m getting there. When people come into my home they always say it reflects me perfectly. ☺️☺️☺️

I have always loved her style. I remember watching Rachel’s show when I was in college, just dreaming of the day I had a house. Thank you for opening your house for us. I just visited my friend/ artists house yesterday to film her collected house and art.
