    We only booked this one a day in advance. A rare day off together and the last weekend of the season before this trip closes down until spring, increased the urgency of getting this one done for the channel!
    Filmed, as always on GoPro8 and Canon 250D, this 'landing cruise' to Inchcolm took place in the last weekend of October 2020 and cost approx £20 each including the landing fees to set foot on the island.
    I've been going to Inchcolm since I was very young, but now trips are only every few years and it's always nice to see the place - you'll also see a reference to a very young Steve Marsh on this one so look out for that :D
    Thanks as always for watching, and if you haven't yet subscribed, I'd really appreciate a sub to motivate me to continue producing content.

    May I say how delightful each and every one of your videos are to watch. Thank you for providing them! I am 73 years of age next month, and have wanted to visit Scotland for a long time. Your videos make it possible to see your beautiful country without leaving home, Maybe someday I shall be there to see all these wonderful places in person. Until then, please continue your channel, and many thanks for persevering with videos during the pandemic. If you are looking for suggestions for future subjects, I am a lighthouse fan, and would like to see more lighthouses featured. I have enjoyed te ones you have included so far. Thanks so much Cindy, and Happy Birthday for when it comes next month! I must start by saying the Olympic Peninsula is one of the most incredible places I have ever been - I remember walks in the woods there that felt other-worldly! (as well as some pretty good ice cream in Port Angeles!) The whole trip there was magical, including the Bainbridge Ferry ride, oh I need to come back!!! Can we just do a house swap for 2 weeks please!!!??? I'll keep an eye out for lighthouses - a favourite of mine too, they are just so spread out here, but maybe it's a future video! Thanks so much for the support of my channel :)

      I also remember the little boat service from Aberdour ( Silversands ) back in the early 1970's. My late father would take me and my sister to Inchcolm for a visit, armed with a picnic. It was a blue, open-top diesel powered boat...such an adventure. I'd be 9-10yo at the time. I have an old Kodac photo of the boat in a family album somewhere. Good memories indeed.

    Steve, thanks for another fascinating video of your travels.
    I've seen the islands in the Firth in the background of many pictures and films about the Forth bridges and the Rosyth naval dockyard, but didn't know there were visits to one of them. What a fascinating place and how "wild" it seems, yet within view of a great city.
    I can understand why you remember your family visits there as a youngster, and like to revisit it now.
    I guess some of the Service personnel stationed in those barrack blocks long term might have felt rather differently -"brassed off" with being within sight of, yet so remote from the fleshpots of "Auld Reekie"!
    I recall the ferry slipway at South Queensferry from a family walking holiday in the Highlands in 1964, when we drove from London to Strathpeffer, though the first bridge must have been almost completed then. Having spent the previous night at a B&B in Edinburgh New Town, we drove out there and waited in the queue of cars in the shadow of the great railway bridge to cross on the ferry and continue our journey north, which while very picturesque at times, on the roads of the day took us quite a lot longer than we'd anticipated.

    • @steve-marsh
      @steve-marsh  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      What a wonderful trip that sounds, would love to have had the opportunity to take the ferry from QueensFERRY! Haha so true about being based on the islands and being able to see the city lights - would have been like on Alcatraz :D There are also great trips to the Isle of May - I'm waiting until early next year to do that one again when the puffins are back on dry land, will make a video when the time comes! Cheers Hugh!

    • @hughrainbird43
      @hughrainbird43 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@steve-marsh Our drive to Scotland in 1964 was indeed memorable. My Dad was a member of the AA (he drove thousands of miles a year as the South of England representative of one of the last surviving Manchester Textile manufacturers,) so if we were planning a long drive on holiday, he'd apply for an AA "itinerary" which came as a booklet of stapled together strip maps, with the same kind of instructions printed along the side as you get from a SatNav now "Bear left at roundabout, take the AXXX", etc. Ours always began at the Well Hall roundabout on the South Circular. You could chose from a "direct" or a "scenic" route, and the "scenic" one was that which we used to get to Scotland. By that time I was old enough to take charge of this important role as "navigator"!
      It was this that advised us to use the Queensferry crossing, though as it was 1964, it would soon have had to be updated as the first Forth road bridge was opened in the September of that year, and presumably the ferry would not have lasted very much longer after that.
      Improved roads, many new Motorways, and better car design might make travelling easier, faster and more comfortable nowadays, but I always look back on those holiday drives to Cornwall, the Lake District and North Wales as well as this longest one to Scotland with some nostalgia.

      @steve-marsh  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@hughrainbird43 I'm not surprised, your comments certainly bring back a wonderful insight into a bygone era, much like reading a Bill Bryson book! It really does show how some things were so much better before technology arrived, really liked the sound of the AA itinerary and would much rather travel that way today! My parents crossed the Forth Road Bridge on its opening day and their photos of it look incredible!

    • @hughrainbird43
      @hughrainbird43 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@steve-marsh Thanks, Steve, your videos often recall memories of my own travels, especially in the most beautiful parts of Scotland.
      It's as much the people you travel with as the journeys themselves, and I've been lucky that my parents took me on such memorable holidays when I was young, and that I've been able to take fascinating trips with groups of friends since.
      On the subject of technology, I'm sure my father would not have tolerated driving and being dictated to by a SatNav for very long!
