This song fucking cursed me and my friend, We both watch it multiple times a day and even still reference it when we aren't directly listening to it. The riffs are just so fuckin powerful in this one and they have an energy that just astounds us. Praise Iommi and Cisneros. DROOOOOOOOOP.
God, al's right hand is absolutely mindblowing. How the hell can he sound so even and dead on the rythm when he's bassicly just beating the shit out of those strings? Amazing bass player.
Hakius definitely has "a sound" entwined in the early Om / Sleep thing. saw them before & after his departure & also caught Sleep (minus Hakius). certainly preferred him in the band. that ride, that snare.
Well said. He is one of my favorite bassists, and certainly one-of-a-kind. His style is so distinctive and stimulating to the ear. His "solo" (not sure what you call it) starting around 7 minutes into Flight of the Eagle remains the most unreal piece of bass-playing I have ever heard.
dude he is a solid bass player, not really a technical bassist. But his lyrics and bass playing are aspiring, interesting, and it almost has this theroputic effect. thats why he's one of my favorite bassists. Thats why he is God
There are a lot of more technical players who are also more boring You called it, Al is solid, he also gets a rocking tone and writes some real killer tunes
Al Cismeros is a bass god . as seen here tripping balls and jamming, since i am older then al when i grow up i want to be Al lol only thing i missing is 2700 for a rickenbacher lol
thank god iv downloaded that beautiful ear noise like an old hippie. how would experience the best ever gig without this? this must be the deepest of the deep, deeeeeeeeeeeeee,,,
Chris Hakius reminds me of John Bonham in the fact that he has a distinct sound/style, is pinpoint accurate in terms of timing and changes, and he does lots of very delicate ghostnote work that "fills in the gaps" making an overall fuller sound. Incredible really.
heaviest bass line 7 minutes into flight of the eagle. Not even a planet made of concrete is heavier than that bass line. Its guys like him that can keep music so heavy and so fresh. Him and chris were put on this earth to jam.
Awesome quality OM footage! I have been lucky to see Al play live twice (OM and Shrinebuilder), all I can say is that I have never seen a musician get so deeply entranced into a groove. It is inspiring to watch someone who is just channeling all his energy into a song.
The core lineup is two people, yes. They have other performers from time to time but it's mainly the former rhythm section of Sleep, which was a three piece.
lucky enough to see Sleep reunion in Seattle 2012. Al is an all time top 10 rock/metal bassist EVER!!! He was fantastic playing all the old Holy Mountain songs.
@dethly Sleep is C standard and Shrinebuilder is Drop C (at least Scott Kelly's guitar is tuned to Drop C and it would make sense if Al used the same tuning on his bass)
Al Cisneros is the reason why I finally decided to learn bass. Does anyone know when his birthday is? Wino from St. Vitus (& Shrinebuilder) told me he was a Libra and if that's true I will die of happiness
Corinne Cascioppo I used to be a guitar player that messed around on bass then I listened to Om and now I'm and bass player that messes around on guitar.

This is the single most important video on TH-cam.
I was just about to comment this.
Praise Cisneros
@@sambriddon3271 praise Iommi!

I concur

Really makes me sad Chris retired, such an influential and unappreciated musician as is Al. Long live OM.
he's so unique
I listened to this while mowing the lawn. Felt like serious business.
Impossible to turn this loud enough
Chris hakius is still my all time favorite drummer of all time. no ones made me so i couldnt stop tapping my foot to the damn drums other than him
easily one of the best live videos of any band on TH-cam, utterly beyond words, the magic this band creates is simply unmatchable
The song is 'Rays of the Sun / To the Shrinebuilder'. It was released on the split single they did with Current 93.
Al Cisneros = The lovechild of Geezer Butler & Cliff Burton.
Si señor
Guys, the song is Rays of the Sun/To the Shrinebuilder
Hakius definitely has "a sound" entwined in the early Om / Sleep thing. saw them before & after his departure & also caught Sleep (minus Hakius). certainly preferred him in the band. that ride, that snare.
Yep, he has a swing.
om was these 2 players....without him its something else...
@@jlong-ov5dz i agree but emil amos has really stepped up and i think he plays really well.
My father in law remarked to me that his drumming sounds "Turkish". Now that I heard him say that it's all that I can hear in his drumming.

The bass is rumbling my gut from here.

I’m going to start listening to this every night before bed again. Very beneficial for life
Bro I used to do that too, idk why I stopped
thank god iv downloaded that beautiful ear noise like an old hippie. how would experience the best ever gig without this? this must be the deepest of the deep, deeeeeeeeeeeeee,,,
“I” thank this band, and in a bigger notion thank you thank us. Beautiful

I wish I had remembered to listen to this when I drank too much cough syrup.

This is honestly one of the best live videos of seen from anyone
Wow. Just been blown away...
Going to see OM this wednesday after a postponed gig and a missed flight!!
Awesome quality OM footage! I have been lucky to see Al play live twice (OM and Shrinebuilder), all I can say is that I have never seen a musician get so deeply entranced into a groove. It is inspiring to watch someone who is just channeling all his energy into a song.
New goal, make my bass guitar sound like a Didgeridoo!
LOL
Best Om footage I've seen. Got this song on 10" green vinyl it's sick.
one of the best amoeba uploads
Killer clip the sound is amazing!
This is friggin awesome!!!!
Small venue?
fuck that shit
let's use not one, but two huge-ass 6x10 cabs
Om logic
redwillrise I think they are 4x15's. I think he also has 2 each of 4x12's and 2x15. (I THINK)
we,xxporn
I think some of the audience may be astral projecting.
Even the heaviest of players have a hi hat jingle!
SO GOOD
cant wait to see them in november
this is awesome
intenso ese bajo distorsionado junto a la batería de hakius
Outstanding good!
Rickenbacker: The bass of badasses.
amazing
The core lineup is two people, yes. They have other performers from time to time but it's mainly the former rhythm section of Sleep, which was a three piece.
the living legend!
lucky enough to see Sleep reunion in Seattle 2012. Al is an all time top 10 rock/metal bassist EVER!!! He was fantastic playing all the old Holy Mountain songs.
Chris beats those skins like a redheaded stepchild.
I'm a beginner bassist... to have the expression on my face that Al has on his at 5:50 is the reason why I play music!
Whadda great afternoon on Haight Street that was!
that bass tone is so kick ass
hail haikus- they still go but this drummer is a deep, good drummer
These guys are finally coming to Australia!
Just saw these guys last night at The Independent in SF. Fucking mind blowing show! Epic!
Haikus drumming seems so much better than the dude Sleep takes on the road with them now.
Jason Roeder is still pretty cool. )':
crushing sound. Just cant get enough of Al's bass equipment.
This song is called Rays of the Sun/To The Shrinebuilder. Flight of the eagle is off of the record conference of the birds
Holy sh!@t!!! Just discovered these guys from OJ video. Just drum n basse? Crazeee!!
the look on ol' boy al's face around 4:13 just makes him look like he's in a trance.
shit is so cash.
This video is my favorite thing.
This is good shit. This is the only type of slap bass that sounds good to my ears and has a real purpose.
I’m grateful to be aware this shit exists
Chris hits those drums like somebody stole his bike.
One of the all-time comments on YT! Superb mun...
WOW
who needs a lead guitar anyways?!
it does help
Opeth1k i know what u mean. But theres a guy here on yt who added guitar to om. Not bad actually..
@@user-kv9iv5ho4g do you have a title? I'd love to see that
I like how he does the slap bass it gives it a cool beat to the song =)
@Shellath It seems like he does a lot of hammer ons with his left hand. He's impeccable.
Paulo Sandoval Master of bass
All hail OM!
That bass is so dirty, I love it.
fuck me running........this gets better everytime i watch........FUCKING EPIC......nothing else matters when this hitting my eardrums......
we need an album by OM feat- Boris & Merzbow
Damn
heaviest thing ever
@dethly Sleep is C standard and Shrinebuilder is Drop C (at least Scott Kelly's guitar is tuned to Drop C and it would make sense if Al used the same tuning on his bass)
3:13 *GO!!! HAKIUS!!!*
7:00 - 8:00 soooooo good
They should go to Amoeba in Hollywood if they haven't already.
Rays of the Sun \m/
Al Cisneros is the reason why I finally decided to learn bass. Does anyone know when his birthday is? Wino from St. Vitus (& Shrinebuilder) told me he was a Libra and if that's true I will die of happiness
Corinne Cascioppo I used to be a guitar player that messed around on bass then I listened to Om and now I'm and bass player that messes around on guitar.
Found of from Al that his birthday is Sept. 23 (first day of Libra)
Zodiac signs don't mean shit
He's the reason I bought my first bass 3 months ago!
Al inspired me to learn air bass, I practice every day
Cisneros really shines outside of Sleep. But in Sleep he is just as possessed.
@TRIARII117 in this is using DGCF
4:00 when Al signals to Chris, changes are a comin 👌🏼 hit that bellllll kinggg

There's not much that can beat that Vivekananda tone
rays of the sun / to the shrinebuilder
is this a 2 person band?
Brent Smith ye
@TRIARII117 If you mean his bass (not the God mode thing) I know it was C standard with Sleep, but with Om it's probably D or Cis standard.
anyone know what cymbals chris uses? the bell on that ride is awesome
it's a two part song a. Rays of the Sun , b. To the Shrinebuilder
@Elfaki19 epic reply....i love you
yea.....I'm going to go find my old footage and upload it.
Trance inducing
This is drum n bass.
